Pueblo Man Arrested In Thailand For Sex Crimes

(AP) PUEBLO, Colo. A man who fled Pueblo County 15 years ago after he was convicted of a child-sex crime has been arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, and has agreed to be extradited, a prosecutor said.

Alan M. Maxfield was convicted in March 1991 of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust and aggravated incest. He was sentenced to eight years in prison but fled while free on bond, authorities said.

Pueblo County District Attorney Bill Thiebaut said Tuesday that Maxfield, 59, was arrested in late October after trying to get or renew a visa or passport at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok. A background check turned up a warrant for unlawful flight to avoid incarceration.

Maxfield was expected to be flown to New York on Friday but it was unclear when he might arrive in Pueblo.

Thiebaut said he did not know how long Maxfield had been in Thailand.
