Stayed a couple of nights earlier this year.

I agree that the farang food was good, but not as good as say Ches Marco here in CM.

Wouldn't go back because of the staff though. I traveled with my baby 5 months at the time and the friendliness and helpfulness I have come to expect in Thailand when it comes to children was distinctively absent.

Also having to listen to the owners (English and Thai) loudly arguing about money in the restaurant every time we had a meal was not very pleasant.

FYI: "baht" is both singular and plural. There is no "bahts".

Have you tried making inquiries with other business owners and customers in the area or perhaps there is CCTV footage of the incident somewhere?

I actually have CCTV in the bar (for insurance purpose), but not outside, so I can't see what goes on after we close.

i had a bite of Apple once. She did have a lovely pear.

Maybe when you get the new flag, wire it up to the electric mains after closing time. 2000 volts works a treat as a prevention against theft.

The night between Saturday and Sunday someone stole the flag from outside my bar on Loi Khro, It is a big Danish flag and for those that doesn't know what one looks like it's on the left of the photo.

It might have been stolen by an envious neighbor, or more likely some drunken tourist. Whatever the case I would very much like it back.

So if anyone has seen in knocking around, I would be very grateful for a hint. And who knows there might be some free drinks in it for you

I actually have a set of Star Wars Monopoly in my bar.

Used to play Sunday afternoons with some friends, until they left town.

Would be nice to play again.

All you nice people tell me where it is so I drive all the way over there (because my satellite has not be turned on in about 8 months) and, wow, their computers are down. I ask, "So what do I do." Response, "I don't know."

So I'll have to go again in a day or two. The NFL season starts on Sunday (actually Monday here) so need to up and running before then.

But at least I know now where it is!

I do have a TV as you stated with English commentary (when the Internet works), anyway I was told in no uncertain terms by a mod that if I posted anything like advertisement I would be banned from the forum, so hence no comments, and by the way the TV was bought for my house before new years and is only in the bar for the WC, looks good though.

If he mistook you for being English, at least it's a compliment as regards to your language skills, if nothing else.

Your huge TV is excellent. Is it Plasma 50 inch? I was thinking of getting one and yours seemed particularly good.

By the way, as I understand it, if you write about your own bar, it's advertising. If someone else writes about your bar it's not (unless they're a Newbie, of course). Plenty of places get regular write-ups and even whole topics written about them, but so long as they are genuine customer reviews, it's generally okay. There are some exceptions, though.

It's actually 55" LED which is what makes it stand out, and since I had it and the HD box at home plus all the cables needed, all I needed was to borrow the second laptop for the audio delay.

So no extra spending on the WC for me either, but I am satisfied and a bit surprised with the turnout and response. Much better than anticipated

Just a couple of quick questions -

Which model did you buy?

Do you think the Sony's picture is a lot better than the Samsung's?

After a lot of comparing several models I settled on the 40EX500 which is in fact an LCD. The equivalent LED was another 35,000 baht . I don't use Blu-ray so the enhancement that LED gives Blu-ray would be a waste. So for downloaded movies, DVD's and True Vision it's fine.

As far as picture quality goes, I have always thought it was a matter of personal choice, but I would go for Sony over Samsung any day.

Good buy, you have got yourself a nice TV there.

But actually LED gives an improvement to all signals not just Blu-Ray. One of the main benefits being an enhanced color accuracy including blacker blacks. Another Big difference is the thickness of the screens, an LED screen will usually be around 10 cm thick (I think yours is 9.9 if I remember correctly), a LCD is a quarter of that which gives a more elegant TV.

As for Samsung vs Sony, if you are getting a LED TV Samsung is defiantly market leader for a reason, they have pioneered the technology and IMO you get more bang for your bucks. When it comes to LED technology, that is now so tried and tested that you'll get great quality from both brands, and you are better of deciding by price rather than brand.

How would the police know how long your contract with True is?

Thats what True advertized when they first came out withe their HD. True is doing the same thing for the World Cup 2010 as they did for the World Cup 2006 advertising language and licenses that they can not or will not provide. I would put a side bet that before the World Cup is over we will see and hear of websites blocked in Thailand that are broadcasting the cup in English and Astro TV down south blocked. Any takers?

Already happening , the radio delay website on Two for the roads post has been blocked by ICT.

If anyone needs it I have the install file saved on my laptop, so bring an USB dongle to the bar and get a copy.

You do not need the license if your showing the WC on True Vision HD as the licensing fee is covered by True Vision back to RS but if you are showing the WC from a Thai channel (3,5,7,11, MCOT) or Astro HD then the BIB are the collection agent for RS and will demand 10,000 baht for each television in your establishment. I know owners that received their license free from Singha Beer.

It depends which HD subscription you have.

The 290B 6 months contract does NOT cover the license, you have to have the 790B 12 month contract to be covered by your UBC contract,

Tuskers now has English commentary from the BBC. We have just tested it during the first half of the Slovenia v Algeria game. At the moment the audiis is about a second ahead of the picture but we believe we can rectify this tomorrow.

Grateful thanks go to the UN Irish Pub for generously sharing their experience and know how and one of my customers who is a bit of a computer geek.

I have got it sorted as well now, Stream BBC 5 live on your pc. Run the audio through a second laptop with a radio delay software set to 2 seconds delay, and Bob's your uncle, or at least second cousin once removed on your fathers side.

Bloody difficult, and there might be better ways, but it works.

In the bar where I watched the first game, they had two screens, one showing TRUE HD and the other on Thai TV ch3, through a TRUE decoder. The images were about 3 seconds apart, which confirmed what I thought beforehand, which was that getting the video and audio from two different sources and having them in sync would be all but impossible. The owner tried the game with just the backgound noise, but there was a better atmosphere when the Thai commentary was opened.

I then tried Dragonfly Bar for the late game. The owner said they had commentary for the opening game, but a customer said it was out of sync and slightly irritating. The late game he had difficulty in getting the audio, so that was shown with just the background noise. It is a small bar and was busy so the crowd noise helped and overall it was quite enjoyable(except for the one guy who was particularly loud, drunk and foul-mouthed - an English teacher, I was told ).

yea that's what I had on for the first game, but synchronization was awful, and they cut it halfway through the second half.

I've got a new technical solution worked out with a friend in the UK, and it works well in my house,, now I'll just have to see if it works in the bar as well.

No commentary in English.... TIT

Got it sorted, VPN connection is working and VLC has built in synchronization so you can set the delay for what you need ie. English commentary in sync. (has taken me all day, now it's time for a nap)
