  1. Plus we've been total rabid colonialists destroying, pillaging and stealing.
  2. I used to believe in global climate change as a man made event. Now I'm not sure. The enforced scientific consensus around COVID made me realise how little we actually know, and how scientists are not always our friends, and that politicians are usually not our friends. Never let a good tragedy go to waste....lots of examples, the Patriot Act after 9/11 stripping away rights held by humans for centuries, imprisonment without trial, torture etc. A few people will get very very rich and powerful from this climate 'tragedy' as we are forced to drive EV cars, eat less meat, eat more bugs etc. I believe (I don't know) but I believe the climate change has been hyped and scientific consensus has been enforced for the benefit of a handful of people. I'm old so I don't much care either way. I bought a diesel truck and a petrol van earlier this year, they will be the last vehicles I buy (hopefully). So you won't catch me buying an EV. Even if I was 50 I wouldn't buy one yet....it is totally stupid to be an early adopter, paying extra for a beta product. No thanks.
  3. Great satire always contains an element of truth. And yes, Thailand is becoming slowly but surely a less attractive place to live and retire to. Charges, even small ones like 500 baht are going to mean queueing up at a kiosk, as Thai websites almost never work, and certainly one cobbled to gather in a few weeks without any expert guidance will not work. Plus given a few months they will put the price up to 600 baht, then 1000 baht. It's just a bigger, more expensive ball ache than it was coming home last time. I've been here since 2008, and each year it gets a little bit worse. When I came, if you had a Thai driving licence (meaning you weren't a tourist) you could get into national parks at the same price as Thais. Now you can't, you have to pay foreigner price. To be honest, I'm sick of being ripped off, even for small amounts of money. It's demeaning, an insult to my intelligence, and irritates me. Stupid immigration laws that constantly change also irritate me. For goodness' sake, can't we have one law and keep it for a few years like sensible countries do. I lived in America....one visit to the immigration office, given a card and bye bye. No need to show up every five minutes at the police station to let them know where you are. Same in France, same in Mexico, same in Japan. I have the bug to move, and every, even small, insult is making me want to get the hell out of here more. There are now more reasons to leave and fewer reasons to stay. If I was 10 years younger I'd have left 5 years back, but at 71 it seems a bit daunting to move, although the immigration hurdles in 5 years time will be likely much worse than now. I don't feel like being a cow spending my life being milked by Thais.
  4. Yes. Go to your local IO. At mine it used to take 30 minutes but they improved the procedure and it not takes 3 business days. So plan ahead and avoid going at the last minute.
  5. It's complicated, but I also want to switch my existing visa from UK passport to another nationality that I have, and I can't be bothered going through the hassle of applying agains.
  6. I have had the exact same problem. They keep promising to send a code to help me restiore my password, but no code ever arrives. Yesterday, I opened an account in my wife's name. I ordered some vitamin type supplements, and then tried to order some aquarium supplies later on in the day, and it didn't recognise the password, then despite several attempts, no code arrived to change the password. I've decided to give up entirely on Lazada and move to Shopee.
  7. I love these. How much experience do you have of brokers in your home country. Most people pick one and then tell everyone they are the best, then tells everyone they are useless when a claim gets denied. It's like doctors, I worked in healthcare all my life and I hear "oh Dr XXXXX is a wonderful doctor" and I think too myself what criteria are you using to determine he or she is a great doctor.....it's usually whether they are nice to you or not ie bedside manner. I don'[t care about bedside manner, what I want is a doctor who diagnoses ailments correctly.....which most of them can't.
  8. No, but if there are nine circles in hell they are in number 3 or 4.
  9. I just talked to an international tax consultant here in Thailand that deals exclusively with affairs of expats. He tells me not to worry and not to do anything. He said the law isn't changing, it has always been the law but it is being enforced now. he said that the government at present have no way of enforcing the law; that 'savings' except for the prior year, (which are really income and a frequent tax dodge), are exempt; he told me that my US SS payments are exempt under the tax treaty with the US. In short, don't panic, wait and see what the situation actually is before doing making any precipitous moves eg I was going to become a non resident for tax purposes for next year, ie spend less than 180 days here and give up my non-O visa (retirement).
  10. Not much good happens after midnight. Only really really stupid foreigners use a tuk-tuk, the worst mode of transport ever invented, driven by some of the lowest examples of humanity, imho.
  11. At least an big asteroid would be quick and fairly painless.....instead of endless engineered wars.
  12. Nothing like some facts to clear things up. Thank you.
  13. Hopefully. But what about all the accidents they cause with reckless crazy driving, accidents in which innocent people are harmed.
  14. Guess I have to change my mind back. It's not all about you, you are too self absorbed and not very interesting. Ignore.
  15. Hey these kids are having an experience. They will learn from it whether it goes right or wrong. Good luck to them I say. I left England in my late 20s and never went back. Hate the place. I had some set backs but was able to retire at 54 and live comfortably. I don't think it is about age per se, more about life experience and ability to earn a living. A cosseted kid from a wealthy family might not do as well as a hardscrabble kid from a council estate.
  16. Hamas fighting occupation and land theft
  17. But it was a Thai child that shot them. Shouldn't Thailand have to pay when its 'criminals' shoot people?
  18. The message I'm getting from government actions is that Thailand is desperately short of money, and maybe having problems borrowing large amounts because of the higher interest rates. The future isn't looking so bright that you gotta wear shades.
  19. C'mon Srettha, you said the Thai Air Force would get them out. Deliver on your promise.
  20. Sometimes chasing the money by working abroad doesn't help. Go to work in stable places. RIP
  21. Is it a foreigner tax or a tourist tax ie people with tourist visas?
