  1. No, the Brits just sold the brand name, like they did with RR, and with Jaguar?
  2. I had for a long time in the US an MGB roadster, my wife bought it for me one Father's Day because I had always wanted one when we were young and poor. It was in original condition and had only one owner who had documented every tank of petrol that it consumed and all the servicing. I got in in 1990 and ket it for 16 years 146000 miles. But it really was a piece of crap, dreadful to drive, awful suspension and steering, bouncing all over the bad roads. Now I see an MG showroom opening up not far from me. The cars are beautifully styled, I must say, lots of kerbside appeal. I have never driven one and no idea what the quality is like, except the reviews on quality are generally very favourable. They seem to have taken our area by storm. On the quality issue, in Britain in the 70s, Datsun was a by word for lousy quality, and Honda bikes were known as 'rice burners' by the Norton and Triumph riding guys. Now Japanese bikes are supreme and Norton and Triumph have gone out of business, and Japanese cars are best in the world bar none. Lexus outperforms Merc and BMW on every dimension. The message here is that if Chinese cars are poor quality now, they won't be in a decade or so, so watch out.
  3. What are the absolute numbers. Over a lifetime of business, I have seen that people use percentages when the absolute sales numbers are not very impressive.
  4. I have stopped using the site, not because I am a dinosaur, but because it is a very poorly designed site and the high incidence of stuff which was simply wrong. Things totally unrelated to my order. Plus all of their the stuff is from China and of poor quality. And they don't do sex toys in Thailand ????
  5. Thai Health and Safety laws in action.
  6. I used Thai for my first trip to Thailand. They had I direct flight from New York (JFK). I could not believe the service compared to US owned airlines where the stewardesses were fat old hags with bad attitudes. Lovely girls waiing, bringing hot towels, clean, and with great food. Just fantastic all round. The airline was destroyed by greedy board members and incompetent executives. This "change" won't change anything, because the fundamentals and priorities are all wrong.
  7. I wonder what the losers at TAT get paid. Whatever the amount, they are way, way, way overpaid.
  8. But they offer better service, cleaner toilets and better coffee shops than anyone else. Our local Esso station is the worst station in town, run by miserable Chinese, where absolutely everything is a huge effort for them, no toilets, no coffee shop, and you wait an age for service. Good riddance.
  9. PT are finished, I think. This level of betrayal and corruption is perhaps too much for all but hardcore PT members to accept. I suppose it depends on how long Thai memories are.
  10. Just dig a canal like Panama or Suez. No need for a canal in the air.
  11. How about investigating crimes, being fair, not taking bribes, not sitting all day in the station drinking tea or whatever? How about policing the roads properly in cars and looking for speeding, dangerous driving, DUI, and moving violations? How about stopping police from dealing drugs and forcing users to sell for them? How about sticking corrupt cops in jail?
  12. Sadly not many countries do. Faux democracy like in the UK and US have mechanisms to flaunt the will of the people, ie places where Senators are bought and paid for by multinational corporations, or unelected Chambers exist and most seats are safe. And ethics, how can you expect countries too have ethics when the leaders are power lusting psychopaths?
  13. I'm a bit older than that, and other I'm very happy with my life. I don't really want to do the things I did when I was 50, or 40 or 30. I have zero desire to go out drinking and cavorting any more although once in a while I will have a wander down Soi 6 with a few mates for a laugh.
  14. Probably you haven't noticed it. Isn't Malibu in America? Well it certainly happens there, just look at the example of Hunter Biden, or the kid who killed 4 people in a car crash driving the wrong way on a highway, and got off (suspended sentence) because he was suffering from affluenza, and had never had to be accountable for his actions before (look it up, it's from Texas).
  15. I have transformers 240v to 110v for a lot of pricey electronic equipment I bought in Japan and US. Is the equipment you plan to power off this strip 110v (ie American purchased) or 240v (ie Thai purchased). If you are powering 240v equipment a transform is no good. Despite the sensible comment above about fires, I have a lot of high quality Japanese extension cords that I use here in Thailand and have had no problems at all. But Japanese-made quality is high and I wouldn't do it with stuff from anywhere but there.
  16. Capitalist democracy is like this everywhere. The rich get off scot-free and the poor go to jail for stealing bread.
  17. A total surprise, absolutely surprising. Who could possibly have guessed this would ever happen?
  18. I have been thinking about getting solar panels but this conversation is like a foreign language to me. I can't understand any of it. I think I'll forget the whole idea.
  19. Seeking a very pretty Thai lady to share lockdown with.
  20. Great topic, thank you Bob, and the commenters. Having read the comments I have nothing more to add.
  21. RIP dear. The world is missing an innocent talent.
  22. Where is the detail? Who exactly did he 'inflate' his net worth to? What was the purpose of the inflation of net worth? Unless he was inflating his net worth to investors or to get credit, he can tell as many lies about it as he likes. Net worth (the difference between your assets and liabilities is not a reportable number ie you don't file a net worth statement every year, like a tax filing.
  23. The GDP to debt ratio usually refers to national debt, and doesn't include personal debt.
  24. Something about Srettha that I dislike. I get the feeling that he might be totally corrupt and might leave Thailand even worse off than it was under Prayut.
