  1. I think that most people are really reading too much in to this issue. Forget about who/when the passport was revoked (if it was actually revoked), Or who said what regarding the black list/red list, etc.

There are a couple of main points that people should realized.

    1. What nationality is Mr.T. If he is able to get passport from many countries? On that note, isn't a passport suppose to represent one's nationality and that country's permission for you to travel?

    2. How can someone running from the law, ignoring all the other facts, legally obtain a passport? Or has he already been pardoned and is keeping quiet :whistling:

    3. Why would the ministry lie about the date of issue? or rather the 'best new year present' fiasco? and the guy involve claim totally ingorance of the whole deal.

This looks like there's "a failure to communicate" somewhere. This gov't is just seems to keep stepping in s@#t without it being planted. Honestly I can't remember any gov't that keep shooting themselves as often as this one.

Where's the PM (or Chalerm) in all this, she's/he's been remarkably quiet.

  2. In a good bicycle shop you should get some quality reflectors. But it may look a bit funny to mount cycling parts at a motorbike. The reflectors you can buy at Lotus and BigC are all cheap crap imho, but they may look better on a sidecar.

What kind of sidecar and motorcycle is it? Maybe show some pictures of it, so other people can help you with their ideas for nightly safety stuff.

Good point, I didn't think of this at the time, but what type of sidecar are you talking about? Proper ones or Thai style?

  3. This last CBR 150 i have now, wouldn't go into 2nd if it was rode hard like drag racing, after forcing it time after time, it now goes smoothly.

I've tried raising and lowering the angle of the shift lever but it didn't work. The latest thing is for it to downshift automatically when im in too high a gear going uphill.

Kinda cool actually, it's like it's developing artificial intelligence or something.

Umm, we don't actually have good history with AI on this planet.:whistling:

Terminators, Space Od 2001, Matrix, I Robot, many more I'm sure.

  4. Why do people think the scooter brakes are poor? If you can lock up the front and rear wheels, how much more powerful braking can you get. I do know for a fact that my Elegance can lock em both up. No way would I consider buying a bigger rotor on the front.

If you lock up your front wheel by braking at 80-100kmh on ordinary paved roads, you have a serious traction problem and extremely long braking distance in the region of 60-120meters. elegance tyres out in the sun have ok traction for 6 months, acceptable for 2 years, and 50% or less traction when passing 2 years

I find 40 meters braking distance a maximum riding bike, and that is achiavable with good tyres riding

    pcx and similar at 80kmh

250 dtracker, ninja, cbr at 120kmh

    ninja 650 at 160kmh

any one of them going faster than above, significat increase in braking distance

Are you saying that a 650 Ninja will stop in the same distance at 160 KPH as a PCX at 80 KPH? I really think that's quite a stretch.

I think you're being too kind, Gary. I would say that KBB is talking complete and utter <deleted>.

40m stopping distance when going 160? yeah I think that something is wrong with the math. :o

  5. I've had 5 CBR 150's and they have all had stubborn shifting problems. Sometimes when i downshift when slowing down fast, the bike wont go into any gears, then i have to barely let the clutch out and it goes into place. My old NSR's have always been smooth as silk though, not even needing to use the clutch on upshifts.

Chain should be oiled regularly, most shops do it for free or charge you 5 baht, when its about to get dry oil it. Every 1500 kilos for chainlube, every 700 kilos for regular oil. Make sure you can move the chain up and down about 1.5 centimeters when sitting on it, or else the bike will vibrate and you'll lose about 10% of your acceleration on lower displacement bikes when the chain is too tight.

Have the same problem with not going into gears and not just shifting down either, heck it even slipped out out gear on the road. Took it in to honda, all they did was to adjust the clutch cable, it didn't do !@$T. Just have to pump the clutch and it's good to go, but definitely leaving you feeling a bit worried.

BTW I'm also on the 150.

Anyway to really fix this problem? or is it a design fault somewhere?

  6. Isn't the NorthEast suppose to be one of the Red's strong hold? With high % voting for them? Now he's pointing fingers at the police from there? Am confused. Show me the evidence and just maybe I'll believe you.

I still wonder how he managed to become a politician, can't even control his own kid's action. How many people have they been 'alledged' to have shot at or...:whistling:

  7. PCX was great. Loved it but I spend most of my time on the Superhighway in CM. Didn't pushed it past 80, didn't feel really stable at that speed, nothing to do with the tyres, probably more aero. The brakes take a little adjustment, as there is no independent rear brake, it's all in the combi-brake system that they have, your left hand works the rear but it also put some pressure on the front as well, kinda annoying.

The "Start and Stop" function was great in the city, saved some gas at the light.

It's a little wider than average, so had a little trouble slipping between the stationary traffic.

Great seating style, almost 'cruiser' like.

Huge storage space under the seat.

Havn't heard anything regarding to '12 model,

  8. It's not really that difficult of a shift for me to go from scooter to a 'real' bike. Granted I stalled a couple of time with not knowing where the slipping point if for the clutch or forgetting to shift down (being in too high a gear!). IMHOP you should just get a 2nd hand 125-150cc bike to learn on, find a nice open area. If you're in bangkok good luck unless you live in a housing compound which is perfect, little/no traffic to worry about.

I literally youtubed on how to ride a bike. Plenty of decent clips on it, just beware that some of those clips were done with larger bikes and will have enough power to roll forward without throttle movement, small bikes will stall.

So, watch youtubes, grab a bike and go.

    Have fun, good luck

  9. Try Fast Corner at Pantip Plaza on Changkhlan Rd.

Fast Corner doesn't have Nolan helmets so that would be a bit of a waste of time.

Kawasaki dealer at the moat has 1 or 2 Nolan models in stock, check there. Outside of the moat, go west from Chiang Mai gate.

    Thanks :D

  10. I would try the Baker's Mart for the hand mixer, got better selection than Yok. but honestly if you don't want to travel that far out of town, SiamTV has a decent selection for kitchen appliances. As for the baking trays, etc. Yok is probably the better place. Then Again Robinson does have some good stuff too. I've even seen some in Index.

  11. Any one has this problem?

Going 80km/h on the road and the bike suddenly goes into neutral, pretty much redlined the engine <_<.

Had it check at Honda, they fiddled/adjusted the clutch cable.

Is there any underlying problem? Or is the clutch cable adjustment the right fix? What really scares me is not knowing when it's going to happen again. Losing power when you need it isn't really a good thing.

  12. Guys, need some help here.

Can I put the rear tyres for a 250 on the 150 without having to change the rim? Or any other major work done to the swing arm, etc.

Would switching out the original shifter and rear brakes with 'custom' ones make any difference to the comfort level (apparently it moves the control back some more), I've been told that it would be better for my, I'm 180cm so a little tall. (PLEASE do not suggest getting a bigger bike, I mostly use it around town and around the super highway in CM.)

On that nite any one in CM knows a place to find mod parts?,

  13. The problem lies with the "patronage " system in place in Thailand. No matter who is in charge there will be incompetence by those who are appointed to important positions purely for political reasons

In most western countries the political swings are minimized by a strong (and unfortunately sometimes obtuse) professional civil servant class , who are able to keep political interference to a minimum and therefore keep the institutional memory alive

But when you have to give up important ministerial positions to get parliamentary votes any government is going to be ineffectual since the bureaucrats are scared of the new boss and won't / can't stick up for what is the right thing to do

Solid analysis of the nuances of how governments work. I lived/worked in Washington DC for a long time. You are absolutely right - the political appointees (rolling in and out every 4 to 8 years) are nearly worthless. Its the non-partisan civil servants that keep the machine running. In the US, the percent of the governing agences that are run by political appointees, versus civil servants, is small enough to not seriously affect their effectiveness. To be honest, I don't know what the ratio/dynamic is like in Thailand - but I wouldn't be surprised that you are correct.

LoS is still trying to figure out the meaning of democracy IMHOP, :o. There are still too much 'patronage' people in places where they shouldn't be.

  14. I think that this Pavin missed some of the actual issues this current crisis has created. Madam PM is shown to be lacking the skill and personality to bring the government together. So many conflicting issues from the same issues, USN is the current one, and it's not really splitting between the red/yellow oriented media either. This is causing major confusions within the country and I bet internationally too. Not to mention the various Reds leader doing other things, but then again where are the Yellows! Chumlong, etc. They are not doing any better. Fortunate for them that they aren't in power.

Given how much it rained this year, I'm surprise that there isn't any contingency plan to cope with the vast volume of water

But I agree that the problem is MUCH deeper than the current gov't, I honestly can't imagine other country that would let the 'mob' regulate where the water would go, which control gate to open, where to place dykes, etc.

Declaring SOE from the beginning would be the perfect controlling the crowd, with the army in charge of security for the work crews. Don't tell me that you didn't hear about numerous crews retreating due to threat of violence. I don't think that this would have happened with Army there, OR WOULD THE ARMY BE THE ONE DOING THE DEED!!!:whistling:

    To sum it all up.

    1. Madam P.M. is unlucky to be hit such a crisis with in months of taking power, but she could have done better, be more in control.

    2. No one is really doing well: Reds/Yellows leaders are not showing support in any significant volume. Unfortunate for the Reds, getting blasted as they are in power.

    3. Mr.ex P.M. has really stayed quiet, but I've seen report of him stating that he'll send water pump from Korea .

4.This would make or break this fledgling gov't, as the flood will led to numerous issues, especially what to do with workers who are not out of work!

  15. Robert Amsterdam posted a piece on NM. Obviosuly all the usual caveats as he employed as a player in the power struggle, but it is worth reading if you want to understand the analysis of how the Thaksin/PTP/red side view things and understand why they are doing what they do. Jatuporn isnt so much out of touch with the rest of PTP. He is on an extreme of what is said in public. The PTP expect to be brought down by extra-parliamentary forces at some point. Anyone following the news especially the Thai versions is aware of this 6-24 months are the mentioned time frames. Obviously either Jatuporn expects it earlier or is keeping the reds on their toes and not letting them relax and lose sight of the ball now they are in power. Of course if the PTP can get the bureaucracy to function for them as government then things may be different and they may reassess what they think.

Hopefully for all of us of course nobody will be silly enough to try and bring the government down through non-normal parliamentary methods as it is sure to be chaotic if an attempt is made.

Hopefully too the Democrats will use the time of this parliament to rebuild themselves as a force for democarcy and position away from linkage to old managed demcoracy systems, so that the next election can see a more competetive race

Remember that the PTP, Jatuporn, the reds are all layers of the Thaksin onion which can be independently activated either separately or together to carry out Thaksin's wishes.

If the government collapses under its own incompetence then rest assured the accusations of coup will rise to a crescendo and Jatuporn will seek to activate the reds/red villagers to defend 'democracy' (Thaksin's interests).

The level of noise re threat of coup is raised in direct proportion to the uselessness of the government carrying out its main mission number one: bring back Thaksin.

The different crises washing up on the shores of the government are judged to the degree that they advance or push back objective number one.

Jatuporn knows this, this is what he is paid for, is loyal to and is acting accordingly.

The only problem is the government's incompetence will be shown to the country and it's very difficult to hide such problem. Forget about bringing the guy back, I would rather make this gov't show some result. I'm seeing more problem with this gov't than in other gov't in recent time. Heck, they got into a mess from the start, with their 300bth policy.

  16. Purely for curiosities sake I sent an abusive, obscenity-filled and extremely racist message to Truevisions and received this in reply:

    Dear Sir,

We are sorry for any inconvenience. Please be informed that TrueVisions hope to continuously improve our service in order to bring you the best viewing experience. We are happy to announce the launch of TRACE Sports, a new sport channel. TRACE will replace ASN, All Sports Network, on TrueVisions channel 110 from 1 October 2011. We still have no recent plan to broadcast NFL on any other channels. Our apologies for any inconvenience incurred.

Should you have any further inquiry, suggestion, or comment, please do not hesitate to contact us at 02-7252525 between 8:00 am - 22:00 pm or [email protected] between 9:00 am -18:00 pm

Thank you for your kindness and continued support.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The fact that they would even respond to my (hateful) email speaks volumes...

is TRACE even a sport channel??? more of a life style channel.

Yep no more NFL as even the normal sports channel were showing the AsN broadcast.

What's worse is that I've seem to have missed the notice for removal of ASN. Had it all set up to record all the broadcasted games, got up sunday hoping to watch GBP, and no games recorded, instead this TRACE @!#@#$%^.. and seeing how Rodgers played... Just really made my day.

  17. Where in CNX can you get the chain properly cleaned and lube, Any garage/shop or the dealer. I just don't want to have to get all the supply myself. And I just don't have the space to properly do it at home. It's getting some what grimey.

  18. I only have a comment about "big" vs "little." This topic has come up quite often and I cannot for the life of me understand why the advice always seems to be to start small. My first legal street bike was a 1969 Harley Sportster 900cc, back in the day when you could get leaded 100 octane fuel. It was a pretty hot machine for the time.

Now I ride a Kawasaki 650cc ER6n. It is the biggest bike you can legally buy here right now without paying huge import duty and taxes (along with Ninja and Versys). This bike is considered a "starter" or "womens" bike in the US. It is only a "Big Bike" in Thailand. When I ride my father-in law's 110cc Honda Wave, the damned thing feels shaky and dangerous. In the west, this motorcycle would practically be considered to be a toy. Because stability is achieved by the gyroscopic effect of the spinning wheels, heavy wheels mean greater stability. A bigger bike is only more difficult to keep upright when stationary. A little girl can ride a liter bike if she can touch the ground with one foot.

If you truly will never go beyond a resonably small radius from home, by all means, get the 250 and save some gas. Or the Wave for just around the city. But if you want versatility and might someday want to take a ride to Nan, Chiangrai or even Bangkok, why not get something comfortable for such a trip? You can save money on a smaller bike, but you haven't saved anything if you replace it a couplfe of times. I have seen people go from a 110 cc to a 250, then to a 650. Where is the savings with a plan like that? If it wasn't for the greater cost because of the import factor, I'd say go to a full liter bike. There are members that warn against that, too, because of the ungodly power. Just learn to control the throttle. Just because a bike will pop wheelies in all six gears and go from 0 to 300 in 6.2 seconds, doesn't mean you have to ride that way.

    My two cents.

I agree, don't understand why people are recommending 150-250cc bikes. An er6n is a perfect starterbike, very easy to ride. In sweden people never start on anything smaller then that, you cant even get your big-bike-license with anything under 600cc.

So my tip is go for an er6n/f so you donät have to change bike 2-3 times in the first 3 months...

Don't know if you read the thread first but the OP has already purchased the bike he wanted. Now everyone is comfortable with the idea of getting straight onto a 600+ cc bike for their first bike. If they are worried about the power etc then it is not wise for them to do so and the better option is to start small and work up.

Yep, a 600 for a first bike is the express lane to the hospital. I just switch my pcx to a CBR 150, found that my right hand is too heavy (giving it too much gas):whistling:. Glad that it was only a 150, easy to learn the control sensitivity with.. Plus in CM it does what needs to get done. Good in the city, and some life outside it. Granted I wanted a 650, but praticality wise, I'm pretty happy with the 150.

  19. I may be way off base here but maybe if your arms are blocking your rear view you are hanging on too tight. Relax the shoulders, drop the elbows a bit and if still not enough then tuck you elbow in briefly when you glance at the mirror.

Not only does this clear the obstruction on the rear view, it also be enables one to handle the bike better and helps prevent aching wrists.:) I guess it's true what they say about finding the right position.:D

Riding Tips: Finding the right Position

Motorcycle Ergonomics: Getting That Kink Out

Then again, some people are built a wee bit wider than normal (like yours truly).:P

Figured it out now. The mirror posts were moved too upright. Once I flattened them out, they're fine. Dropping the elbows did help, but the majority of the problem was the placement. Thanks anyway

  20. I met some problem yesterday.

I was riding back to home and stopped at some intersection , shift to N , rev down down and pshh ..... stall ....

and it was hard to start again . even started , the rev keep going down below 1500. I have to open thorttle a little to help it and have to keep it rev higher than 1700.

the engine knocked two more time at some intersection , while I let it idle , sounds like not enough fuel injected to me.

got back to home safely , I tore it down , check everything especially electrical system , and nothing found.

I test start it . yet . still easy to stall if let the throttle. so I think It should be an FI system and nothing for me to do . was decided to go to mech

this morning I turn the key , started . then I instantly figure it out.

I left the bike unused for 4 day , making a fiberglass , there's bubble of air in the injection pump and have to turn the key on and off several times to bleed the air out.

and that day , was heavy rained and the air was damp (very) , my bike Idle is normally lower than others so it would be easy for it to stall .

Having the same problem, especially with mine parking on a upslope. Don't really know what was going on for the first couple of time.

After a weekend in BKK, got back to CM and the dang thing wouldn't idle. Thanks for the tip about using the key to bleed out the air.
