  1. In the case your describing, all the foreigners that are thinking of spending their Holiday in Thailand can't afford to come anymore. And I don't think that Thailand will let that happen as Thailand needs Tourists.

    That`s wishful thinking.

Considering that today the £ is down to 45 baht and the Euro down to 39 baht, it appears that Thailand has already let this happen.

This must be having a devastating affect on Thailand’s Western tourist industry, which will also have knock on effects to those businesses that are Western tourist orientated, plus if this trend of the ever decreasing bahts for Western currencies continues and I cannot see any improvements in the foreseeable future, than many ex-pats living here who obtain their incomes from abroad, will not be able to hack it in Thailand much longer.

We the ex-pats are really up against it. High inflation in Thailand, especially since the increasing of the minimum Thai wage, ever dwindling bahts for Western currencies and low to mediocre bank interest rates. It appears the squeeze is on and the situation is going to get tighter

The outlook is grim and be prepared to tighten up your belts up to the very last buckle.

You are right, but aren't they (BOT) just starting implementing measures to Tackle the strong Baht ??

the Thais can be tourists in their own hotels.

They are already, but the majority of guests in most (Tourist) oriented areas (biggest earners) are still Foreigners.

  3. Hi Pete,

I don't have the answer if you need two or only one, but it's always better (when dealing with Thai government offices) to come prepared, so I advice you to get 2.

  4. OP just a question out of curiosity, you are going to move to Surin to live there, but from the post it seems that you have never been there as you are asking about nightlife ? Or am I mistaken ?

Ps: The nightlife in Surin is mainly situated very near the Bus Station, with the Thong Tarin Hotel as a good landmark.

  5. Disclaimer: I am just guessing here, but eventually a Real expert will come along ! thumbsup.gif

I guess you are watching True via an Active Subscription ??

Aren't True trying to get rid of these boxes by tying the Subscription card to the decoder ??

  6. Jbrain is right !! Only the first (1st) extension counts as a 90 Day report. After that you are lucky if the 90 Day report date falls on the same date as the extension date, but with the 90 Days report you have 15 Days before and 7 Days after the reporting date to report.

OK. I guess then this is individual Immigration Office interpretation. After a number of extensions all I can say is the new report date has been from the day of extension the same as re-entering the country.

As you say, this must be a local immigration office decision, as other offices don't work this way.

My 90 Day report day is currently trailing 14 days behind my extension date, but I can catch up if I want (by reporting late (up to 7 days allowed), but I don't care, as I can meet the "friendly officers" more then once wink.png

    4. Completed form (TM 7) with photo attached.

    <snip>

    The requirement now is Tm7 with 2 Photo's thumbsup.gif

    Found the post:

It's a requirement now. I got away with it last time, but they said to bring proof of address next time. It is a requirement now in Jomtien.

Edit: just to add, I've heard you now need 2 photos when extending your visa. Things seem to be in flux as there's a new boss in charge.

  8. One question - do you've to put clothes on in a sauna in Thailand? Or is it just all nude, like public saunas in most European countries?

I like sauna, but I don't want to sit and sweat while wearing clothes (for hygienic reasons and comfort). I also want to avoid going to a sauna giving "adult/sexual" services.

It will not be nude for sure !! Swimming trunks and as the previous poster (ohyesuare) said, if you don't have the necessary attire, "They provide you with something."

    Thanks for your answer.

(In my country there are 2 kinds of saunas, the saunas where people are asked to put on a swimming suit have very little customers and there are very few of these places. The nude saunas (most places) are a family thing. We go there with our wife and children. I had hoped something like that existed in Thailand. Too bad.)

You might think Thailand has this because of the bars etc but no it's not here, if it is, it is on secluded properties and not easy to find !

  9. Bump.

I would really like to fix this please.

It looks like some kind of TV and FF issue as spell check works fine on other sites.

    Oke !!

Try Right Click in Post (Reply) Screen

Is spelling enabled ?? Do you have any Dictionaries installed ??

Ps: Are you running ad-blockers as they can create havoc on pages, if not then also try to start firefox in safe mode (http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode) and try again.

    Edit: */ Added Ps

HOWEVER, you could also change the condo/room/house but bring the old bill. I have noticed they do not really look or check the dates or anything.

    <snip>

Maybe that is the reason why they invented the TM.28 form (Aliens to Notify Their Change of Address or Their Stay in the Province over 24 Hours) , also if you check into a new room the owner of the room should notify immigration (No idea of the form to use).

But my guess it's never enforced, but you never know. When I moved from my old Condo to my new own, I filled in that (Tm 28) form and gave it while doing my 90 Day Reports. The officer looked at it and asked me "why do you give me this" , I just replied " Change of Address Krab", he stamped and signed it and give me back the slip. blink.png

    <snip>

I know when i report, i used my 5 year old lease, and they never asked. Last report, i used my business card from where i work and they were ok with it.

Might be the luck of the draw or may be the mood of the day smile.png

I will report back in approx 1.5 weeks after doing mine, but maybe things only have changed because of the new "helping hand" person behind the info desk thumbsup.gif

    Edit :*/ I need a zpelling course wink.png

  12. What if you own a condo ??

Bring copies of the Chanote ??

I now bring my Internet Bills and haven't had any problem, but if they change this bah.gif

I'm due (90 Day) beginning of March and I will let you guys know what happens.

i have no idea, do not shoot the messenger. i only know what i have been told by the guest and what i have done for him.

As i said, they refused to accept any bills, receipts of rent payment or receipts from internet booking, nothing but lease agreement

After reading your post a bit better (wai.gif), I can understand why they would refuse this kind of "simple" paper work.

An Electricity or an Internet Bill in your own name would not necessarily prove that you live there but is more worth than a bill from rent payments. I could ask the shop on the corner (or even write my own) "Room Rent Bills", but an internet bill (in a foreigners name) from a Thai Company entity or the "Lease Agreement" you made is a contract and that is what (my guess) is enough to prove the Paper hunger from Immigration Officials.

Don't forget that a couple of years ago this wasn't even necessary but just because of some bad apples (who said they were living some where, and when the police came looking no one knew who they were) this has come into effect.

    Regards

  13. i have just realized that when i get my next 90 day the one after will come due while we are out of the country and we will not be back untill 14 days after i should report again ,anyone know the drill as this has never happened before.

You only have to report when you are 90 days in the Country, so when you are not here you don't have to (and can't thumbsup.gif )

But please note that the day when you come back into Thailand will be Day 1 so you have to report your address 90 Days after the day you come back !

    Ps: Don't forget your re-entry permit wai.gif
