Soon after I arrived in Thailand I was advised setting up a direct debit to pay utilities was not a good idea, as they were difficult to cancel. So for a while it got paid at their office. Then along came the 7-11 or Tesco checkout option. Now my Bank app scans the QR-Code and it is done....

It was, in the past, suggested to go to an agent first....or get out of dodge as you suggest. A visit to immigration, if already on overstay, and the Immigration police would likely arrest you and you would be spending a night in the detention centre. Many feared them getting their claws into them.

Yes I have always been amused by that, especially when a pal bought one! Since the kid sounded only slightly injured the choice is difficult, wait and be pilloried by relatives, or forced to hand over cash by police, everyone is awaiting this type of opportunity!

Was it Washington bar area in Bangkok where owners were forced out, the bully boys were sent in at nighttime. I do recall going to a rather good GGB that was surrounded by other bars etc that were in the process of being demolished.

They rarely do... not much up for sale in those areas. It is a minefield doing business here but cashed up folks keep landing!

Take it a step back... does a person have the right to prosecute, convict and exact punishment on a trespasser? Sufficient force to protect ones property and family is no argument. This was some drugged up fool stealing leaves from your garden... like the local kids scrumping apples!

He did not refuse medical help. I read he refused forced feeding. Sufficient force to evict him from the property was all that was required, grievous bodily harm was not needed. Handing out the right to kill every kid who climbs your wall to get their ball back is taking it too far. Looks like a great anti-weed argument this thread!

Not at all.... if anything they ensure folks who do try to live here are financially sound... needing regular income, a bank balance or some investment into the country. It seems wiser than the situations we see in Western Europe now.

He went to hospital... how on earth is that refusing treatment? He refused to be fed by a tube. He was being beaten as he attempted to crawl away... excessive violence is what it sounds like.
