  1. nice thread.

2008 has been a mixed year for me.

i lost a friend to cancer, saw my dad go through a pretty major operation, saw the grief of my darling niece when her 14 month old son passed away, gave support to my other niece who has been diagnosed with cancer at just 25 years old, saw friends divorce after many years of marriage, and was unlucky in love.

on the other hand, i moved countries, started a great new job, moved into a fab house with a lovely garden, saw my family unite in times of raw grief, i had good health, and have been happy.

but no matter what happens to us in our daily lives, the sun is gonna come up every morning. its gonna set every evening. this is the only thing that we are sure of. everything else that happens to us is a blessing.

this year i plan on concentrating on what i have, rather than what i dont have. i will see my glass as being half full, rather than half empty. and i will tell my family and friends that i love them more often.

i wish everyone on thai visa who i have met, as well as those who i have not met, a very happy 2009. i hope all your wishes and dreams come true for you and that we all come out smiling after the current global crisis.

  2. same from me. i wish you all a very merry christmas and a safe, prosperous and fabulous new year.

to all of you, i hope that 2009 brings good health, good friends, and success.

    Donna,

    same to you in Bali!

I have reserved a chair for the NYE dinner for you in my garden.........

    Gerd

thanks Gerd. i will be there in spirit!

ahhh...i can still taste that lovely dinner last year too.

  3. welcome to thailand mfd. being a melbourne girl myself, i know just what you are missing!

head to Villa where you can find Veg, BBQ shapes etc. sign up on the BNOW (bangkok network of women) newsletter as you will find a lot of things going on there. some interesting, some not so.

bangkok takes some getting used to, but there are some great places to go. despite what you hear, you can get some good wine and coffee there too.

enjoy! and give yourself time to settle in.

  4. the bus is by far the easiest way to get to kanchanaburi from bangkok. only 2 hours, and its a cruisy drive. when you reach the bus station, put the folks on to a samlor if you are staying in town. im sure they would absolutely love it.

another option is the train, which departs twice a day i think. the trip is considerably longer, but the experience is fun. again, the samlor blokes will be waiting to pick you up when you get off the train.

if you decide to stay up at Felix, you can get a songtheaw up there from the bus station,or the train station, easily enough.

to get to level 2 of Erawan falls is not a difficult walk. im sure the folks would love it there.

from kanchanaburi, you have to take two buses, totalling 4 hours, to ayutthaya. first bus goes to suphanburi, and the second takes you to ayutthaya. its a long drive on pretty boring roads, and there are NO air con buses doing this route.

hope this helps you a little.

  5. a man who is cocky and thinks he is so much better than anyone else is a turn off.

a man who gets all shirty because you wont sleep with him on the first date is a turn off.

a man who has to put his two mobile phones on the table as a centrepiece at dinner is a turn off.

    but enough of that.....

a man who can hold an interesting conversation about almost anything is a turn on.

a man who can make me laugh is a turn on.

a confident man is a turn on.

i have to agree with the jack black comment, too. i just love that man.

and, little black duck (welcome back by the way - we've missed you), it will be a lucky woman who snags you! youre a little gem.

  6. same from me. i wish you all a very merry christmas and a safe, prosperous and fabulous new year.

to all of you, i hope that 2009 brings good health, good friends, and success.
