  1. no sarcasm intended but lucky you that you can drink Lee-oh! my system can't handle it for some reason, after four or five small bottles I get a bit antsy. I can't handle Sing-ha or Chaang either so one wonders what I'm doing in the Kingdom LOL. reminds me of when I went to Cuba and the hotel owner offered me a shot of rum because it was my birthday. when I told him I can't drink rum he said "so why did you come to Cuba?" ????
  2. that was a joke ser. it's an unwritten with of this forum that we only discuss cheap things ????
  3. ser I don't think we're allowed to talk about craft beers in here because they're *cough* too expensive *cough* I've had a couple of glasses of Thai craft beer at the Sheepshank on the Chao Phraya. not bad but the higher alcohol content (6.5% iirc) knocked me around a bit. that's a great little spot is the Sheepshank. I recommend it to anyone that has a few baht in their pocket. 47 Phra Athit Rd, Chana Songkhram, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200
  4. not gonna happen anytime soon man. meanwhile you're just p***ing in the wind.
  5. if it's so difficult for citizens to get guns then how did the latest shooter, an 18yo bullied kid iirc, get his hands on an AR-15 or DDR-15 or whatever it was?
  6. there's probably any number of reasons why there are so many killings. bullying, mental illness, feeling left out of society etc. but I'm not so sure about the nothing new part. it seems to me as a foreign observer that over the years it has become increasingly easier for people to get hold of guns in the USA, especially the assault rifle variety. that, and the blanket coverage of the latest atrocity might encourage copy cat killings. unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a solution as the gun lobby is way too strong. I don't see these mass shootings ending any time soon.
  7. the US numbers show us how lethal those AR-15s can be so it would surely have been a much higher body count. from what I've read they're lightweight, easy to use, very accurate and come with high-capacity magazines. if I was forced to live in the States then I'd probably choose to live in an open carry State. at least that way you have some small chance of defending yourself when the shizzle goes down.
  8. ser, God is a construct of the human mind not an actual celestial being. imho the main reason that man invented gods and afterlife is so that we don't go mad from the despair of thinking about fading away to nothingness when we die. so I suppose that technically "God" exists but not as an existential force. the belief in God is maybe what saved your in Viet Nam. or maybe just luck/happenstance/confluence.
  9. it's also a reminder that people have different expectations. in this case the vendor was probably thinking that the cheap charlie would drink his coconut water quickly and move on. possibly she thought that since he spoke Thai that he "knew the score". CC on the other hand thought that he was getting a whole day of napping in the shade for the price of a coconut because he speak Thai welly good! he clearly doesn't know the score because that's not how it works on Pattaya Beach. on Thanon Rambuttri in Bangkok, which runs roughly parallel to the Khao San Road there are a few cheap restaurants that have tables and chairs on the street. they have a sign that says something equivalent to "don't stay too long". this is because the bagpackers think they can order a fried rice for 30 baht or whatever and then hang out there for the rest of the afternoon oblivious to the fact that the food vendor is making sweet FA on each dish and needs to turn tables in order to make a profit. perhaps the OP should contact Pattaya City Hall and petition the mayor to have the beach vendors put up similar warning signs lest other poor tourists become frustrated by the "predatory" actions of the beach crew ????
  10. I've been to Thailand for 30 years and I've never heard the National Anthem at 8am therefore it doesn't exist ????
  11. indeed. and I bet that if you did the same thing to them, ie. something that really annoys them then they'd get quite upset and probably threaten violence. eg kissing another man in their presence or turning up at the biker bar in a frock and heels. or whatever sets those Neanderthals off ????
  12. ser, I think you're the one that needs to get out more. as I mentioned above, I recall being refused alcohol in a Hua Hin resto after 2pm. and it just popped into my head now, I was cut off at 2pm last December at Hops on Pattaya Beach Road by the brewmaster himself, God rest his soul.
  13. ps. there is no prostitution in Thailand. this has been confirmed on multiple occasions by special task forces.
  14. the bars you mention are the best bars. especially the ones here in Bangkok that stay open until sunrise or later. sanook mak! ????
  15. lucky you. nonetheless the alcohol sales restrictions also apply to restaurants.
  16. AFAIK restaurants have always had to follow the same rules as the supermarkets etc. I recall being denied a cold beer with my meal at a chain restaurant in Hua Hin many moons ago because it was after 2pm. I guess it doesn't get enforced or maybe the places that follow the rules aren't making a sufficient contribution to the RTP Benevolent Fund. IIRC Witherspoon's in Pattaya is one of those restaurant/bars that strictly follow the rules. maybe the gaffer has a moralistic streak?
  17. your friends are not very nice people then are they? I live in Bangers and have noticed a little bit of an uptick in tourist numbers recently so it can't be that hard. I think the hardest part for some people is trying to get their two wives and four prams onto the BTS at Siam at 7pm on a Saturday night ????. if they can make it here why can't your mates? ps. plenty of whitey "I'm educated unlike you" types up and down the Suk not wearing masks. nobody seems to be bothered about it so why are you making mountains out of molehills other than to show how much you hate Thailand? kthxbye.
  18. relax man, nobody's listening to your call outs. jai yen yen and just enjoy your life instead of moaning about ChaCha all the time.
  19. I've only met one guy (in Patts) that purported to be with the Tourist Police and he was most definitely full of himself. Aussie ex-copper iirc. I know that one swallow does not a summer make, but...TIT
  20. Thailand Pass and wearing a mask are child's play. you're obviously a fair weather friend to Thailand.
  21. this is the way of the world brother. that it ever was.
  22. prove to me that 100% of the lawyers in Bangers and Patts don't work on a contingency basis. emails will suffice, it doesn't need to be on letterhead. kthxbye.
  23. some people just don't want to know the finer details. a few years ago a good friend who had been living in TH for a long time told me he had to go to Mae Sai for a "visa run". I said you mean a border bounce right because AFAIK there's no consulate up that way? he got real angry and shouted at me. "they're the same thing!" my mate probably "renews" his "retirement visa" every year too now that he's 50+. dunno why you bother helping ungrateful people, just let 'em get on with it. let them go to Nong Khai, cross into Lao, oops "Lay-os" and get a "visa on arrival" when they come back into Thailand ????
