  2. McLaren’s Lando Norris beat Red Bull’s Max Verstappen with help from the safety car to take his maiden Formula 1 victory at the Miami Grand Prix. Norris jumped to the front because he was able to make his pit stop when a safety car was deployed at about half distance while others had already stopped. Verstappen was unable to keep pace with Norris when the race restarted with 27 laps to go, and the Briton stretched ahead, while the world champion had to settle for second ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. "About time, huh?" Norris, 24, said after victory in his 110th grand prix. “The whole weekend has been good. I’ve had a few setbacks along the way. I knew on Friday we had the pace and just a couple of mistakes here and there but today we managed to put it together, we put the perfect strategy, it all paid off." In addition to a bit of luck and timing, Norris’ victory was based on genuine pace - he was the quickest car on track once he was released from behind the struggling Red Bull of Sergio Perez when the Mexican made an early pit stop for tyres on lap 17. From then until the safety car for a collision between Williams’ Logan Sargeant and Haas driver Kevin Magnussen at Turn Three, Norris turned on the pace and set the foundations for his win. The fact that this was not the usual cruise to victory for Verstappen was obvious when he missed the chicane on lap 21 and displaced a bollard. Red Bull said after the race it had damaged his floor and cost performance. READ MORE
  3. Liverpool got the response they wanted from Mohamed Salah in their win over Tottenham. My only disappointment is that his performance came a couple of weeks too late. I’m not suggesting Salah hasn’t been on top form because of an attitude problem, because I think it is a physical issue that has held him back in recent weeks. But sometimes a row is as good as a rest when it comes to galvanising a player, and I am not surprised he followed last week’s touchline dispute with Jurgen Klopp with the kind of display we saw against Spurs. I saw something similar happen with other players so many times during my career and, whenever and whoever it came from, the ability to react to criticism like that in the right way was very important for me personally as well. A great example of that was on what was only my second start for Liverpool, against Manchester United at Old Trafford in 1998. Karl-Heinz Riedle got an injury on the day of the game, so I came in and played behind Michael Owen in a kind of number 10 role. I’d only just turned 21 and I was very nervous. I lost my first couple of balls with some poor touches and Paul Ince, who was our captain, absolutely annihilated me. In my head, my natural response was to think ‘I’ll show you’. I ended up being man of the match in a 1-1 draw after playing a lot of the game on my own up front because Owen got sent off. READ MORE
  4. It's been a tough season for Manchester United, with the team bowing out early from the League Cup and the Champions League and facing numerous setbacks in the Premier League. Despite the troublesome season under Erik ten Hag's management, there are still some positives to note, particularly Bruno Fernandes’ performance. The captain has impressively managed to score 15 goals and provide 11 assists, shining despite the overall team struggles. At 29 years old, Fernandes is among the few at Manchester United who seem to justify their wages this season. This is in stark contrast to a previous player who earned the same but didn’t meet expectations at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes was signed for £47 million in January 2020 during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's time as manager. While he hasn’t led the team to significant trophy success in his four years at the club, his individual performances have been consistently outstanding. READ MORE 2024-05-06

  11. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel announced on Sunday that his cabinet has voted to close down the operations of Al Jazeera, the Qatar-based news channel, within Israel. This widely anticipated move might affect Israel's diplomatic ties with Qatar, which has been instrumental in mediating truce talks between Israel and Hamas. Journalism groups have criticized the closure as a setback for press freedom. Netanyahu, announcing the decision on social media, previously labeled Al Jazeera a "Hamas mouthpiece" and expressed intentions to shut it down. Last month, Israeli lawmakers passed a bill that allows the government to temporarily shut down foreign media operations if they are seen as threats to national security. The Qatari government, which funds Al Jazeera, has not yet responded to the closure. The relationship between Netanyahu's government and Al Jazeera has been strained, particularly because of the network’s prominent coverage of the ongoing conflict in Gaza that started in October. During the conflict, several journalists from Al Jazeera were killed. Netanyahu stated on X, formerly known as Twitter, "The government under my leadership has decided unanimously: The incitement channel Al Jazeera will be shut down in Israel." It remains unclear whether the closure is permanent and how it will affect Al Jazeera’s reporting in areas like Gaza and the West Bank. Al Jazeera has not made any immediate comments on its website regarding the situation. 2024-05-05

  15. I have an unconventional perspective on this matter. If I were Trump, I'd opt to plead guilty. I'd aim to reduce it to a single charge, pay the fines, endure any business repercussions, perhaps serve a brief jail sentence, and portray myself as a martyr. This tactic could generate substantial fundraising, with Secret Service ensuring my safety. By doing so, I could swiftly conclude the legal proceedings, evade the daily courtroom appearances, and focus on my campaign. This trial is likely the only one preceding the election. If I resume campaigning vigorously, I could secure the presidency in November, effectively ending all legal troubles. It might sound radical, but if Trump doesn't make this strategic move, if he doesn't change his plea, and persists with the trial, it could prolong the ordeal by another six weeks. How much worse could it get for him? Rachel Maddow, the well-known MSNBC host, has been closely following the legal proceedings surrounding former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial. Let’s delve into what she has observed and her unique perspective on the matter. Inside the Courtroom: Rachel Maddow had the opportunity to be present in a Manhattan courtroom during Trump’s trial. She described Trump as appearing “annoyed” and “miserable” while facing more than 30 counts related to hush money payments1. It’s striking to witness the demeanor of a former president in such a legal setting. The Hush Money Case: The case revolves around payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to allegedly cover up an affair with Trump. These hush money payments have been a subject of intense scrutiny and investigation2. Maddow’s reporting sheds light on the timeline of events and the sudden dissipation of the SDNY (Southern District of New York) investigation.

  21. Hey, everyone! Welcome back to another episode of Good Morning Thailand. I’m Jay, and joining me is Alex. Today’s chat is brought to you by Car Zuno, your go-to for leasing new cars here in Thailand. Let’s dive right into today's top story! It’s about Microsoft making a big move in Thailand by opening its very first Regional data center right here. This is a big deal for us as it’ll boost cloud service and AI capabilities in our region. Following a similar investment in Indonesia, where Microsoft pumped in $1.7 billion, they're now adding this data center as part of their dedication to powering up digital skills across Southeast Asia, planning to train a whopping 2.5 million people by 2025! It's tech growth on the fast track! Switching gears, we’ve got a bit of a troubling report. An American YouTuber, known as Mr. Murphy, is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Allegedly, he attacked his girlfriend with a golf club as part of a video stunt. Both she and her sister ended up hurt. While his friend claims it was just for the camera, the cops are taking it pretty seriously. It raises a big question about what's acceptable in the name of content.
