  1. I can't complain about the current tourist requirements in Thailand much. They eliminated the tests on arrival which was the main issue. My main travel problem is the USA requirement for a neg COVID test in order to board a plan home has the same effect as Thailand's previous test on arrival.
  2. The politicized CDC will be the last to let go of COVID
  3. Plus...The hospitals/hospitels will likely give you a great rate if they think they have access to 800k Baht
  4. Chula ranks highest in Thailand but #484 globally on this site, fwiw https://cwur.org/2021-22/country/thailand.php
  5. With the testing on the Thailand side settling out , does anyone have any experience re-entering the US from Thailand with the 24 hour pre-return flight negative COVID test requirement before boarding? I have a bunch of at-home, antigen rapid self-tests....including the free ones provided by the government. My understanding is these have to be applied along with a live online service which produces the test result report (??). Would fly out on a Saturday evening so I assume the 24 hour clock begins at 12:00 am on Friday
  6. Even if one assumes that COVID was the cause of death in each of the 100+ daily deaths, is 100 deaths a lot in a country of 70,000,000? In the USA, about 1% of the population dies each year...about 3.4M
  7. If they want to generate interest for the high season at the end of the year, it would be a good idea to drop all requirements now and not flip flop the decision. That would give them several months to try and rebuild some confidence in travelers that a vacation to Thailand doesn't present an unacceptable risk
  8. Yeah...66% of nothing is still nothing. Numbers need some appropriate context to be useful
  9. Maybe I'm just not evolved enough to appreciate the genius behind their decisions
  10. Yeah, If the CDC seriously wants Americans to "avoid travel to Thailand" , then they should just direct potential travelers to the Thai entrance requirements
  11. ".......and replace the mandatory RT-PCR test-upon-arrival requirement with the more convenient ATK tests...." No tests on arrival
  12. Drop the superfluous COVID visitor requirements now and maybe by the end of the year, you can build enough confidence by tourists to view a trip to Thailand as a holiday rather than a risk
  13. The risk/reward metrics would not be the same for a 5 month stay as the average tourist who has well under a month available to enjoy
  14. Every time I see these mask announcements, I'm reminded how, over the last year in the US, there have been millions of people sitting elbow to elbow, screaming and maskless in sports and entertainment venues every week. They also dropped the mask requirement in public schools here a month ago so I am waiting to see outcomes if any. So far, no increased reporting's.
  15. Taking a pre-flight test while I am still at home would count as the least of my concerns. Taking one or two as a captive traveler already halfway around the world in Thailand is where all the risk lies
  16. Thailand’s "tourism rebirth...." is at risk due to the actions of the Thai Govt, not Russian tourists
  17. Pre-flight when I am still at my home is different than being subjected to multiple tests when I'm on the ground in a country halfway around the planet
  18. At least now we know while there is plenty of time for alternative plans & locations
  19. Looks like they hit the wall as far as willing recipients about the end of November.
  20. With the duties and taxes imposed, I can only imagine the cost of an electric car in Thailand
  21. Better that Putin gives us a list of countries he considers "friendly" and let us see who's in that hall of shame
