  1. Even if one assumes that COVID was the cause of death in each of the 100+ daily deaths, is 100 deaths a lot in a country of 70,000,000? In the USA, about 1% of the population dies each year...about 3.4M
  2. If they want to generate interest for the high season at the end of the year, it would be a good idea to drop all requirements now and not flip flop the decision. That would give them several months to try and rebuild some confidence in travelers that a vacation to Thailand doesn't present an unacceptable risk
  3. Yeah...66% of nothing is still nothing. Numbers need some appropriate context to be useful
  4. Maybe I'm just not evolved enough to appreciate the genius behind their decisions
  5. Yeah, If the CDC seriously wants Americans to "avoid travel to Thailand" , then they should just direct potential travelers to the Thai entrance requirements
  6. ".......and replace the mandatory RT-PCR test-upon-arrival requirement with the more convenient ATK tests...." No tests on arrival
  7. Drop the superfluous COVID visitor requirements now and maybe by the end of the year, you can build enough confidence by tourists to view a trip to Thailand as a holiday rather than a risk
  8. The risk/reward metrics would not be the same for a 5 month stay as the average tourist who has well under a month available to enjoy
  9. Every time I see these mask announcements, I'm reminded how, over the last year in the US, there have been millions of people sitting elbow to elbow, screaming and maskless in sports and entertainment venues every week. They also dropped the mask requirement in public schools here a month ago so I am waiting to see outcomes if any. So far, no increased reporting's.
  10. Taking a pre-flight test while I am still at home would count as the least of my concerns. Taking one or two as a captive traveler already halfway around the world in Thailand is where all the risk lies
  11. Thailand’s "tourism rebirth...." is at risk due to the actions of the Thai Govt, not Russian tourists
  12. Pre-flight when I am still at my home is different than being subjected to multiple tests when I'm on the ground in a country halfway around the planet
  13. At least now we know while there is plenty of time for alternative plans & locations
  14. Looks like they hit the wall as far as willing recipients about the end of November.
  15. With the duties and taxes imposed, I can only imagine the cost of an electric car in Thailand
  16. Better that Putin gives us a list of countries he considers "friendly" and let us see who's in that hall of shame
  17. It might be peaking right now. Could be well into the decline by April
  18. Their surge in Thailand is probably close to the peak right now. If one actually believes their data, their case and death rate is about 8x lower than the UK at their peak. Makes it look like they don't have a COVID problem at all
  19. The CDC did a seroprevalence survey for the period Feb 2020 -Sept 2021 and estimated that cases were undercounted by a factor of 4. The US was doing a lot more testing than Thailand during that time and it was months before the more transmissible Omicron. My guess is that Thailand easily has over 100K cases a day now.
  20. Wasn't exactly cut down in his prime was he....? A tip of the hat though for making it to 96 ????
  21. Hard to believe that somebody testing positive on a self administered test wouldn't immediately turn themselves into the authorities for their own immediate incarceration?
  22. I will continue for now to hold out some hope that the decisionmakers there will have an epiphany and drop all arrival tests in time for a mid summer trip to visit wife's family. If not, we will look to 2023
