Day 1. 03.11.23.
Today’s ride was Pattaya to Kanchanaburi, I left later than I usually would due to bar hopping yesterday. I was still away in good time and although I tried a different route it was mostly hot and busy. 289km ridden.
Turning here off the A321

To this point onto the A323 was the best part of the ride alongside the canal.

am I only the only person that thought Vietnamese people were a little aggressive and not very friendly? I only visited Hanoi and they weren't pleasant at all. The honking by itself was enough to keep me away from there anyways. Maybe the south is nicer.
Honestly I don't even consider Thai people that friendly, compared to Americans at least. I don't know why they get that reputation honestly. They smile back at you is all I can think of.
I have ridden my motorbike all around Vietnam for a total of 9 months and found them very friendly. Besides one person one time near Hamburger Hill who thought i was an American and shouted "loser" at me!

Cheap, beautiful, modern enough, nice people, easy visa policy...
Easy visa? No retirement visa there.

You may add motorbikes as one of the worst modes of transportation in Thailand.
The best way by far to see the country ????

Hi all,
I'm a foreigner who got a Lao driving license for both car and motorbike and from what I read online, i'm allowed to use it to drive freely in Thailand thanks to the bilateral agreements between both countries.
Does anyone have direct experience they can relate ?
My other question is : can I convert my Lao driving license into a Thai one without taking additional tests ?
Best
Lao is an ASEAN country along with Thailand the license is ok.

Yes, but every border seems to have different rules that change often.

There certainly is.
Ork and Awk is the same sound.
Pork/Hawk/Dork.
Hence my comment that Ork is accurate. Aawk is not.

Please type ออก into the above site, probably the best source of Thai Language resources.
You can write to them and explain why they are wrong if you please.
Luckily i don't need to transliterate Thai language as i can read it. -

My favorite is the pronunciation of a women's name "พอล" which gets transliterated as Porn.
Then all of the Farangs have a great laugh - "That gal is named Porn! Ha ha ha ha ha! She must be a Porn-Star! Ha ha ha ha ha!"
What the jerks don't know is that the correct pronunciation is almost exactly like Pawn is in Pawn Shop.
Like I said - transliteration are at best approximations and most often full of holes unless you completely understand the pronunciation substitutions of the transliteration schemes (and there are more than one which makes it even more confusing). Even someone with a rudimentary understanding of the Thai alphabet and their pronunciations and work out the proper Thai pronunciations on signs.พอล is transliterated as Paul

As is Ork.
Besides there is no "R" sound at all in ออก aawk

Yes as in law or saw.
But i reckon tourists would struggle with aawk. Ock or even orck would be easier.
Maybe depending on their native language. But in English awk or aawk are accurate.

No, wrong vowel, it would be worse.
Ork, or just Ock would be better.
ออก is spoken as aawk
-

No, that reads as the wrong vowel sound. It's an "Aw" sound not a "Ah" sound.
ออก = aawk

what's wrong with ahk? If it's Awg you'll get a strong discernible "g" sound which will confuse Thais. Listen to how it actually sounds:

ออก = aawk

Lol. Correct pronunciation for English of Aw Ang is... aw.
So in this case Awg, not Ok, and definitely not Ak or ahk!
Or/Ork is problematic for those languages that can actually pronounce the letter R, which for most parts of the country is not Thailand.

ออก = out (awk or aawk) There is no "R" sound at all. ????

Unless you are a permanent resident, I dont believe a foreigner can have their name in a Blue book, so I am sure the answer would be no.
My name is in my blue book. But i only saw a while ago, had the book 18 years. Maybe in the past it was ok to have.

I have been told that I sound like a broken record but here goes: Riding a motorbike in Thailand is a death wish.
Lot of people ride around happily with no issues. People who have very little experience should be very careful.

Why would it be free. Live with your decisions & consequences. Want free healthcare, stay in the UK.
If he wasn't a ranked fighter already, continuing with an already multiple busted up leg, isn't exactly the best career path .. IMHO
I mean it was not free, he paid, and if the surgery was done badly i would understand his complaint.
I talk from experience as i was blinded by a doctor here who demanded money to try and save my sight. -

Oh please ... try simply saying THANK YOU, for saving my leg, possibly my life.
So now he has a bit of a limp, OMG. Shouldn't really interfere with his Muay Thai. And of course, get others to pay to correct it. Cry me a river.
My one leg is 4cm shorter than the other due to hip displacement, not an issue in anything I do. Just a bit of a hobble when walking. Actually mine is 'adjustable' and simply need to pull hip/leg back into position.
If the operation was free, say thanks. For sure it was not.

Today was day 34 and the final day of my trip which was from Ban Kruat to Pattaya a 381km ride.
A great trip, only two incidents, hitting a buffalo and in Pattaya today I was rear ended by a motorbike taxi guy, no damage and no problem.
Great views everywhere it seems and the trip has given me more ideas for exploring.

Today was my last day here in Ban Kruat and I rode around local sites.
First I went to a small lake I spotted a few days before to see if it was worth photographing.
Then to another old temple, Prasat Thamo which is being kept upright by scaffolding.

I then backtracked a little to another old temple, Prasat Noi Monastery. Basically ancient random building blocks scattered around with lots of litter too.

Today I rode west from Ban Kruat exploring. First stop was Lam Pathia Reservoir.

Just up the road another reservoir, Lam Changhan Reservoir.

My next stop again not far was Kumpalak 150 million year old stone holes. Some of which were not fenced off, so do walk around at night!

Next near to Nang Rong Reservoir was Prasat Nong Hong for a few photos.
Lunch at the Nang Rong Reservoir and a ride home missing the storms.

Day 2. 04.11.23 Kanchanaburi Canal exploring
Today I decided to explore the tracks and small lanes alongside the canal I rode by yesterday.
A fun and easy 170km of good road to rough tracks.
On the way back into Kanchanaburi I visited Phong Tuek Historical Site which I found by accident.
