Thanks for the update Sid, have'nt been to that neck of the woods for many years and often wondered about Bob Palmer, what do you mean "threw the keys back in" do you mean got out of the bar game altogether?

    Yes max.

    He's retired from the game.

I've bumped into him while shopping in Friendship on few occasions since & he was in fine fettel with a smile & a joke

  3. Palmers moved across the road for a few years but Bob finally gave up the ghost earlier this year & also threw the keys back in.

    Bob is a true gent.

Cheers has gone as has the Blue viking place opposite Sue's Place.

Joining the list of closures will be the  entire Soi Rompho Beer Bar Complex off Jomtien 2nd Road. Its going to be some sort of medical center from what I've heard. Not sure if it's a government or private entity yet.

The land is owned by the Bangkok Christian Hospital but not so sure that this means that it will be a medical centre.

It's a massive site so there very well maybe something related to health care.

I just hope that it's not another massive condo project but something that will add to the area.

    I'm only guessing though.

  5. I was downtown last night & saw that another of the old bars has closed down in Pattayaland.

Sinbin has is shutters down & paddlocked.

I asked in Sugar Shack & one of the customers told me that they (Sinbin owners) couldn't afford it anymore.

Lewinsky's was empty as well & you couldn't get in the door on golf night's there not so long ago.

Sinbin was Mulligan's before that run by Larry then Tropics which was run by Jim & that's as far back as I go which is 20+ years.

Those sois were off the wall back in the day now they are mostly empty Indian restaurants or empty boy bars with only Classroom, Shamrock, Lewinskys, Sugar Shack & Sue's left trading.

    Pattaya park perhaps....

The last time that we went there were large groups fat Indian men jumping around.

They had no concern for the children in the pool, were behaving like spoilt teenagers & a couple were swimming in their underwear.

  7. Does anyone know of hotels around town that allow non guests to pay a reasonable fee & use their pool?

My condo pool is on the blink & I want to bring the ankle bitters swimming.

I asked at Royal Cliff & they said it was 1000thb per person.

    I don't like Mike's at all.

Water park's out of town will run me about 7K for all of the family & that's before we buy food so that's also a no go

  8. My sister in law has no English whatsoever so she wants to start learning at a school.

She has 2 children of 6 & 9 who have some quite limited school English that they have learnt at their international school.

They are about to start their holidays & their mum wants the bring them along to improve their English whilst she there so can someone recommend a language school that fits the bill?

  9. Shreaded one of my tyres just now in a pothole.

Can anyone recommend a shop that will put a new tyre onto the wheel?

It's a fortuna & the tyre is not fixable

  10. I pass there a few times a day & the students all appear very disciplined & courteous although there should be better facilities & support for crossing that road.

There are times that they group up & charge across the road because there's a gap in the traffic.

I get stopped by the old bill on a weekly basis while they check my license & tax so why don't they send an officer or two down there when the school finishes to mind them?

  11. I'd try the Friendship shop in the Friendship supermaket shop up from Tukcom.

They have a specialised food shop for the trade there.

    (thanks JT)

  12. We have a washing machine at home but the colour goes from shirts really quicky & I was told that a lot of the washing powders/liquids in Thailand contain a lot of bleach due to the fact that most machines only offer cold wash & a lot of Thais still hand wash so can anyone recommend a product that does not contain bleach.

I can't read Thai so looking for brand options that I will be able to buy at Big C or Tescos etc.

My problem is my wife's family loves me too much. I'm like a celebrity when I go there. The food and drinks never stop coming and they keep pulling me by the arms into different groups to chat me up. It's literally exhausting having to be so entertaining for me who usually likes to be alone. Her two sisters families debate over who we should visit next and I have to be careful what promises I make because they get so disappointed if I can't make it. I'm not complaining it could be a lot worse. One of the best things about my wife is her family. I got lucky there.

You're a very lucky man indeed.

It must be a reflection on both the family & yourself that you have so much love & emotion shown to you.

It's not on tap on most places & apparently even less so up country over here for us foreigners.

People who are loved & have company of people who they love are known to live longer & happier lives.

Count your blessings & see what time you feel happy sharing with them.

I believe that you will be happier with them in your lives some of the time than not.

There are prices to be paid & see how much your can afford of yourself for them.

To me you appear to be blessed.

  14. Where would one purchase a rubber dingy around town & what would one expect to pay for it?

I'd also like to buy an electrical air pump for inflating it.
