  1. I was down in Bangkok a few years ago & went to get a taxi from a rank by soi cowboy.

He wanted double what we had paid to get there & then explained that he doesn't get the extra but pointed to the cop that was stood watching over that corner & explained that they have to pay him a set fee for every fare that they pick up from that rank as it was 'his' & that was the extra that we had to pay to get in any cab from that rank.

  2. Not sure where to post this as the section for Thai & visa stuff is very quiet & this place is very a fountain of knowledge.

Do Thai nationals need to fill out the white departure card for immigration at the airport when flying out of Thailand anymore?

I've seen dates ranging from the 16th September to the 1st of October of this year but so often officialdom fails to implement changes in time & the old systems remain in place.

The system for Thais was supposed to change on the 16th Sept & for non-Thais on the 1st October.

  3. That's sign of the way a lot of youngsters treat people nowadays but it was still the best cheap eats spot about IMO.

I passed by yesterday afternoon around 3pm & it was tumbleweeds.

Shutters firmly locked down but more disheartening to notice that there was no sign whatsoever of any work being done on the place.

Local builders aren't know for their tidiness & apart from from a dusty step there was no debris.

I know the old lady hadn't been well & she had a procedure recently so I do hope that she's ok

is Or-Ah-Hahn almost ready to reopen because the two months has almost lapsed?

I have no idea, the shutters were pulled down with the same refurb notice on the front when I went past a few nights ago.

  5. Thought I'd bump this one up again as I still have not found a decent Thai restaurant in town in a similar style to Or-Ah-Hahn-Thai which is still under going a refurb.

Any suggestions for a small family run spot from the local gastronomes?

  6. I've seen him walking against the traffic in the fast of the Suk at dusk & he used to often walk up & down the middle of Thepprasit Rd.

I seem to recall a poster off here saying that he was Swiss a few year back & lives in the back of the carpark behind the furniture store next to Tescos.

He's more harm to himself than anyone else, the poor craythur

  7. I don't know of a really decent seafood spot in Pattaya anymore.

Siam@Siam hotel has a lovely smallish pool on it's roof with shade which must be nigh on 20 floors.

Holiday Inn also has a nice pool with bar & restaurant service.

Hilton's pool looks the part but guessing it costs a bob or two.

Bayshore hotel pool down by the end of Walking St is ok but expect nightclub noise later.

Avani (old Marriot) is also tasteful.

There are most likely some decent new spots in Jomtien but I wouldn't know.

Some of the massive condo blocks have some very big & well designed pools such as Atlantis on Jomtien 2nd Rd

  8. I think the OP did the correct thing.

If he'd have reacted there's a good chance that any adverse reaction would have done him no favours in getting his visa renewed.

A lot of lads would go down the pub later that night & complain to his mates about the wan**r he had to deal with & someone would buy him a pint & for a lot of ex-pats then this is the local boozer.

Visa obtained so job done & the little bully is probably getting bashed up at home by his missus who's shagging half the soi

Not prepared to take the risk. If Centrelink find out after you're deceased maybe they can claim an overpayment for however long you were married.

Once deceased then you longer exist as a legal entity & so cannot be sued.

An Australian financial department would have have some fun trying to sue a Thai national through the Thai courts who happened to be apparently married to you in the past plus there would no proof that you hadn't already actually spent those 'funds' anyway & that she was now in possession of them.

This would not hold up in a Thai court as it would have to illegal in Thailand, Aussie rules do not apply.

  10. The hotel next door to me started renovations 3 weeks ago which is fair enough but the noise from jack hammers drilling & grinders screeching is unending.

It starts at 8am & stops at 6pm with hardly a break for lunch 7 days a week now with no end in sight.

I complained to the manager of the hotel who shrugged her shoulders telling me that they were fixing the building & hopefully it wuld ebd by December.

I asked her if they could at least close some doors & windows but to no avail.

We are having to close our windows all day & put the AC on to be able to bear the constant noise.

Do I have any options other than to move?

Is there any duty of care by the hotel & it's builders?

The other half of the hotel is still open but they only ever seem to have coach loads of chinese guests who must be suffering also

  11. Where can I buy adult & children's wetsuits locally?

Off to europe next month with the fam & will dip our toes in the cold clean seas but would I be better off buying them locally?

  12. If someone has registered on a forum, FB etc & posts then there is a trail that connects back to IP addresses especially if using mobile devices where the sim is registered unless siad person know how to cover their tracks.

Make sure that your own computers & devices hard drives are clean if you know what I mean ;) because they may well be checked to prove your innocence
