  1. So anyone have any tips on how to select the date for my Test and Go booking? I'm booked on the 5th but it doesn't allow that date. Only valid dates are 3-Feb, 4-Feb, 3-Mar, 4-Mar. Obviously they screwed up the validation between months and days. Anyone have any tips to bypass their stupid widget and type the date manually?
  2. The only other thing I can think of is maybe they're your fog lights, check the fog light switch. I see a lot of local drivers leave their fog lights on by mistake.
  3. Have you tried taking your foot off the brake?
  4. An overloaded vehicle's load fell on my car in Chonburi and police threatened him with a fine that was around 20k unless he accepted civil liability for the damaged. As I understood it, it comes under a different act that targets recklessness by enterprises so the fines are much higher as they're expected to be used against corporations.
  5. I'm probably preaching to the choir here but all of those problems can be solved by coming to Thailand. In answer to suicides, increased chronic depression caused by people deliberately feeling sad because some 20 yrs ago young people were being taught that they need to feel sadness/anger and other negative emotions. While that has changed into teaching people to have mindsets that lead to less dissatisfaction, those young people killing themselves now were people who went through the education system 10-20 yrs ago taught by teachers who studied teaching 20-30 years ago.
  6. Cutting in is by definition dangerous as it implies you need to brake to let them in forcing everyone else to brake behind you which can (and often does) lead to accidents. If you mean, you let people in when they try to change lanes safely, then I'd agree.
  7. Mental illness post-viral infection is common and happens with other viruses too such as influenza. It always has a neurological cause except in cases of chronic infection (3mon+). Trying to dismiss mental illness of neurological cause just because it shares symptoms with someone who is depressed for being locked down too long is ridiculous. Acute mental illness can often be treated preventing a chronic condition but it requires early treatment. Early treatment requires people be aware of it. That's what this doctor is trying to achieve.
  8. So I sought legal advice and they say I should repair the car myself and recover the costs from the insurer. I brought the car to Thompson, they opened up the door and found a hole inside, probably a screw hole that was missing a screw and covered up with tape. Not sure how significant that is. They advised that the door is out of alignment and needs to go back to the repairer to realign it correctly and that I need to push for them to do it right. The original repairer says they can't fix it and gave the car to my MB dealer who adjusted the hinges to manufacturer specifications but the door cannot open or close without force, the locks don't work (car can be opened while locked triggering the alarm) and air/noise bleeds into the cabin like the window is open when driving. MB says the door is warped or the door frame is out of alignment and they don't fix up other repairer's work. I don't really want to bring it to AXA's repairer again as they scratched up my interior. Is there anyone who can actually fix this sort of thing?
  9. You just need to invest the money in Thailand, it's not a fee.
  10. I've seen Thompson had an old V12 they're working on next to a W124/W126 (didn't get a good look) so I assume they take such jobs.
  11. Culturally Thai people are very forgiving over recklessness, but he should hold himself to a higher standard.
  12. At least he is remorseful. Better than the usual "Can't you hear my horn?" when they hit a pedestrian on a crossing, or "you walk without watching out for vehicles" after a motorbike hits a person on the footpath, or "it's his fault he died because he didn't give me his iPhone".
  13. If they're uninsured just pay them, you cause the damage, they shouldn't have to suffer because of your mistake. If they're insured, then negotiate with their insurer for a lower settlement.
  14. Just a bit of relationship advice, girls love paragraphs - you should try using them. This might be true in Thai soap operas 20 years ago but it has very little truth today.
  15. Not everyone borrows money because they don't have any... There are financial reasons where it's wise to take on long term debt at a fixed rate like they do with car loans here (e.g. expecting high inflation and increasing interest rates). Why don't you just leave them off? It sounds like you're not using them anyway. ????
  16. How did you rack up that bill? Serious symptoms? I had Covid late last year, tested and managed by Bumrungrad, approved for home quarantine and the total bill was about 9000 baht. About 5000 for the PCR test and initial meds, and 4500 for further meds. Got calls throughout the process checking my wellbeing.
  17. While I agree what he's saying would be completely untrue if it happened in BKK, I've seen enough such comments to think there's some truth to this in rural areas.
  18. If you are rear-ended by 15 yr old girls, don't accept responsibility but agree to pay for immediate medical bills. You're probably financially much better off than them and you will win a lot of favour with your local police.
  19. Depends on the car, people don't know what's expensive. I have a silver S class and as the guy above observed, nobody looks twice (that's why I got it though). I had a black CLS before (cheap but sporty looking car) and got heaps of looks. For the problems I've had with my S class: - most people don't realise how big the S class is. Motorbikes will come at you expecting you to move over when there's no room and hit your car a lot. - chauffeurs, valet drivers, repairers or service people (including from the dealer) will often crash the sides of the car taking corners too tight. They don't understand how to drive big and long cars. - your suspension will need servicing a lot more than the west and in these luxury cars the suspension isn't cheap - they're very complicated cars and your insurer will think any repairer can handle repairs. Expect them to brake other things so your car will spend a month in the shop for basic repairs. For general problems: - while the S class is a basic commodity car, for other luxury cars parts are rare. Expect service/repair jobs to take weeks for what should take a day as they have to import the parts for you. - while driving, people will cut you off regularly expecting you to brake hard or swerve as they expect you to care about your car more than they do. - in accidents the other party will often try to blame you and witnesses may agree For the good things: - parking is great - businesses will make new car spaces for you right at the front of their restaurants/hotels, particularly out of Bangkok. - you will be treated better at any service establishment when you step out of a nice car - at malls they will often let you park in the premium car spaces. Even my CLS got into super car parking at times. - you almost never get stopped by police, even if you were doing the wrong thing - if the police do stop you, they will be very nice and often just want to chat. - police/insurers will often immediately take your side in accidents and demand the other party prove otherwise For the hit and miss things: - when dating upper middle or upper class girls, you need to signal that you're of at least the same status as them. A nice car isn't the only way to do this but it achieves this nicely. - but for poorer girls, they tend to get very insecure in nice cars and start trying to show off which can get annoying, or worse, start insulting the car to feel better.
  20. I've heard of Thompson before. What advantage would using them over my MB dealer give me? At the moment I have an MB dealer helping out with the insurance issues, finding everything wrong with it and providing quotes to fix it at each step of the way. I'm planning on just redoing the repairs with MB properly then demanding AXA pay for it plus the rental car costs they agreed to pay then renegged on, plus any other costs this involves. I was thinking more about an industry body that provides third party mediation to sort this sort of thing out before going to court. I purchased it directly from AXA. The OIC looks just what I'm looking for. Thanks!
  21. I was involved in a car accident. It was pretty straight forward. The other party accepted liability and we're both insured with 1st class insurance with AXA. I brought the car to the dealership who listed all the items that needed repair. The repair bill was THB 179,268. AXA refused to pay for the repairs unless I contributed about 110,000 to the repair. As a compromise, we agreed to repair the car at AXA's repairer with the following guarantees: - any second-hand parts used will be at least of the condition as the original parts - ensure no new faults will arise from the repair - my rental car expenses of 9,630 baht per day for 11 days will be reimbursed, plus any additional expenses if any further repairs are required. I accepted a cheap car in return for AXA pre-approving the rental car bills. A matching car would cost 19,000/day. My car was returned in a sorry state. The car couldn't be locked, the door was out of alignment and couldn't be opened or closed fully, they replaced my door with one in poor condition that needs repairs. The door vibrated very noisily when driving. MB advised not to drive as the door would be damaged further. The repairer also caused new damage. When I sought my approved rental costs, AXA refused to pay unless I agreed that I would not sue for any other losses. I gave AXA a chance to remedy it, and they've since replaced one hinge, so the door vibrates less, repaired the accident damage the repairer caused, and agreed to repair the trim damaged they caused but haven't done so. They also agreed to replace the damaged parts of the replacement door issues but haven't done either. They have also reneged on their promise to pay for my rental expenses for the further repair time. AXA is no longer co-operating and honouring its previous promises. What can I do here? Is there an industry ombudsman that helps with this sort of thing?
  22. No tricks, you qualify for a non-immi B if you have a condo in Thailand. This has been the case since Oct/2020 for the purposes of letting condo owners enter Thailand to maintain their condos when the borders were closed as tourist visa classes couldn't enter at the time without permission from the MFA.
  23. You can currently get a non-imm B if you own a condo in Thailand.
  24. I use a wildcard email system to trace leaks and can confirm the official Thailand Pass is responsible for leaking the email addresses.
  25. He is correct about one of them on the number 7 - it reports around 87km/h for 120km/h driving. The rest of them are pretty accurate when they're working.
