At the Central Festivial mall in Phuket I was not allowed to park in the lady's only parking area....
Even though I had wife and two Daughters in the car,
Parking garage was maxed out so I drove around the corner,
Wife got in drivers seat I walkwd to the mall and they parked in the lady parking space....
    What a bleeping joke,,,,
They also have the VIP parking there as well, all BMW type fancy smanshy cars.....
Can not park my brand new Honda jazz there....TIT

The reason for that lady parking is that women were being bullied out of parking spots.
My wife had a man edge his pick up in while she was trying to park and he threatened her and asked her what she going to do about it.
Supposedly it was happening that much the lady parking was established.
    Some thai men are pigs.

Also there's was quite often an attendant there when they first started doing it to guide them in, better to try and keep them grouped somewhere for their safety and others!!

Seen it in the larger shopping mall car parks all over Thailand.

Nai Harn is full with private umbrella's, nearly everybody brought his own. Did not see any rental umbrellas and mats, and surprisingly also nearly no hawkers. No zoning.

There's a hawker at Nai Harn that sells goods on the sly, keeps his stash in a black toyota prerunner(or whatever there called), parks it on the north side of the inlet car park, has a few runners working with him.

I don't even like the game or the loud blaring music they play in there.

Better of going to Big C.

Here is more info about the little device. http://www.google.com/chrome/devices/chromecast/

I have one, but haven't used it as my TV broke down.

Are there ways to use chromecast as secondary display for OSX or Linux (Kubuntu)? Either full desktop or one window, like VLC player?

Not sure sorry, maybe someone a bit more tech savvy can help.

  5. Same, been watching the current Aus,Eng & Ind cricket series, works a charm and will be very handy when the Aussie rules season starts.

  6. Got a Chromecast via Lazada (just over 1700b) a week ago and gotta say, very happy with it, have had a Samsung version for about 1.5yrs and the Chromecast is a lot more useful.

Couldn't find any shops selling them here in Phuket but probably wouldn't have a got it cheaper anyway.

Anyone tried the little Mexican place just near the north end of the lake at Nai Harn?
Also some other little places near it that looked quite busy on sunday arvo.

Can't beat Blue Fin for the tacos and the fresh salsa.

    Wheres Blue Fin?

  10. Gotta a mate that moved there 5 or so years ago after living in Phuket for years, according to him it's great and very easy to get stuff done, he had a house built and says it was easy and hassle free dealing with all involved.

If your after western foods just head to a Hardy's mall supermarket.

Cost of living depends on how you want to live, same as anywhere really.

Check the net, theres international schools, hospitals and cable tv.

Please help me to understand this:

"Over the past few days, (in my TPV role), I've been visiting all the beaches in Phuket to hand out multi-lingual advice signs to the lifeguards, hopefully helping Russian and Asian tourist to understand the dangers of rip currents etc, and the need to heed the advice of the lifeguard."

TPV - is that a Tourist Police Volunteer ?

    So you
    - as a foreigner with no residential rights in Thailand
    - in the richest province of Thailand with the highest per capita income -
    - go from beach to beach in the burning sun to hand out leaflets to paid employees of Thai companies
    ???

Doing a job, which the local authorities should organize and pay for and which would be dirt cheap, considering the salaries for such jobs in Thailand?

And tomorrow, if they ask you, you start to clean their dirty beaches, or what?

... I better stop short of elaborating, what I think of you ...

Put your dunces hat back on and go stand in the corner.

That's a fair call IMO, have heard that from a few visitors as well.
I should have mentioned they were Australians that said it, they've been going to Bali for a long time and renting upscale villas, will probably return there by the sounds of it.

Bali is a lot cheaper than Phuket. But drugs and crime are rife there. The beaches in Bali are nasty

Whats nasty about the beaches, unless you only go to Kuta and even then that's cleaner than beaches here, drugs and crime are rife if you hang in the areas that attract it.

They are Ukrainians not Russians. I actually quite liked the chinese restaurant they had before.

You gotta be taking the piss, that was THE most food I've eaten since I've lived here.

The most fantastic or disgusting food?

    Yeah my bad, edited #8.

    Obviously you're the only one.
It was atrocious food and it failed.
I can't think of a decent Chinese restaurant anywhere really on the east coast. Royal Kitchen at Royal Paradise hotel Patong is great but limited hours for lunch.

There was a good Chinese on Ratytits a few years ago, maybe 4 or 5.
