  1. Took the little bloke for a dip at the extreme Nth end of Kata yai again today, just loving the looks on the faces of the jerks who had the huts there, not as smug as they were for so many years, one prick that told me to move my car a few times over the yrs(not in the way or blocking anything at all) couldn't even look me in the eye.

For those who enjoy spy thrillers, the BBC has just started to broadcast "The Honourable Woman", an 8 part mini series with Maggie Gyllenhaal in the lead role. Available on TPB and my preference for TV, "eztv". Trailer here:

DLing e1 now, cheers for thatl.

  3. i had a silly UPS some years ago, but deceided it was not worth charging it 24/7 for the little minutes you get in return when you have a black out

Those silly few minutes are normaly time enough to shut the computer down correctly.

Just a small point to remember and check when fitting a dash cam and not using the cigarette/accessory socket.

Do not cut off the plug on the camera and wire it that way. The plug that comes with the dash cam reduces the voltage to 5v so it's important to keep it. alt=thumbsup.gif>

    Good advice, cheers for that.

It used to be nice (1990) but it turned into a stinky, crime ridden, polluted dump, full of disrespectful, racist, overcharging violent, scammers.
And that was 10 years ago on my last and final visit to the island of hate.

With the (temporary) crackdown the crime rate is expected to go thru the roof.

    LOL...you failed

Sunday 3 pm Surin beach looks so nice, all empty EXCEPT the club at the end has not started,

Kamala south of the Graveyard empty

north, same huts still on the beach an does not look like any one is doing anything about it

Walking Kamala today I saw a group of 20+ Army inspecting those huts on the beach. I see some in the tear down/salvage mode. It's happening. I think the fines are about to go into effect.

I don't expect Patong to be any more difficult than Surin or Kamala was i.e. nothing. Every one knows if they're legal or not (they're not). Surin was far worse with many permanent structures. It's mostly just huts on Patong. I think it's the former mayor's son who has one structure that's going.

    We live in interesting times.

Without getting into the right or wrongness of having the structures on the beach do people think that tourists will be happier now without access to restaurants, beachclubs and chairs on the beaches?

Although I think it had gone way too far in terms of encroachment from my observations most Europeans seem to go the beaches specifically for those amenities...

It can revert to the way it was, you could order any type of meal/drink from people with menus and they scoot off to the legal restaurants over the rd and get it for you.

  7. Som nam na...... Guess all the bad press created by the mafia there has finally

caught up with the place. I lived there in 2000 and loved it. Went back in

2009 and hated it. Swore I would never set foot there again.....

Some good news there at least.

Although not a 'series' as such, the BBC made a trilogy of television films featuring Bill Nighy as a M15 analyst, the final one of the three has just aired, and all are available as downloads. If you enjoyed such offerings as "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy", then these are for you.

The chronoligical sequence of the three films and their titles are:

    1. Page Eight

    2. Turks and Caicos

    3. Salting the battlefield

They're collectively known as the 'Worricker Trilogy' (name of Nighy's character).

thanks for that.... hadn't seen those..... all downloaded and ready to watch today.

Same, thanks heaps, love the MI5 type spy stuff.

    Positive things?

More destinations you can fly to direct from Phuket.

The increasing choice of foods, consumer goods and services available in Phuket.

Those two are huge in themselves.

For the small motorbike rider, like myself; the lowering of the average speed of four-wheeled vehicles due to traffic jams (selfish, but true).

    So true.
