  1. Perhaps he needs a police report before claiming on the insurance.
  2. Russians fighting for Ukraine. https://www.rferl.org/a/ukraine-russians-fighting-bakhmut-legion/32267835.html
  3. Moving literally 500 metres to another daughter's house, do I need to show the original tabien ban, house registration document, plus her Thai I D card to immigration or will photos do? No problem with the former, it's here but her ID card is naturally with her in Chonburi where she works. Secondly, do I have to inform immigration within a time frame? Thanking anyone for useful replies.
  4. Unbearable pressure from the family, I assume . Thaksin appointed her head of SC Assets. 'Come on little sis, big brother needs your help now, remember all I've done for you.'
  5. A Russian war crime, the killing of US aid volunteer, Pete Reed
  6. Maybe she herself doesn't want to end up exiled in Dubai counting the grains of sand.
  7. Thai men are expected at some point to become monks, it's a duty to make merit, say after a parent dies. But when a Westerner ordains, it's like wow! He gave up a comfortable life in the West to follow the precepts. He must be sincere. Here he is, at 25 mins, talking about the incompatibility of Buddhism and factory farming in Thailand.
  8. By all accounts Ajarn Cha was a memorable figure. There's a fascinating book, 'Venerable Father', written by an American, Paul Breiter, who was a monk at Ajarn Cha's temple in Ubon for some years. The book is very down to earth, as Ajarn Cha was. Describing a restless Western novice monk, Ajarn Cha compares him to a man with unknowingly a piece of dog sheet in his pocket. 'He walks over here and sits down. It doesn't smell good so he goes over there. The same thing happens.' We can run away from our circumstances but we can't run away from ourselves.
  9. Absolutely agree about the interminable months of grey skies. To add to the gloom most trees have lost their leaves, very little grows, just the sound of crows cawing in the branches. It's an indoor life five months of the year, not good for the soul imo. The bright flowers and tree blossoms of Thailand all year round lift the spirit immeasurably.
  10. A horse and trap trotted through our village last week. Never seen that in Issan before. Perhaps it came from that farm you visited Owl.
  11. A pessimist critique of Russia's military capabilities.
  12. A woman from Poland was on a popular radio show in the UK. She said some in the West didn't understand that Easter European countries were sovereign nations. They hadn't been forced into joining NATO by American policy makers keen to expand Western influence. They wanted to join, sick of centuries of Russian imperialism.
  13. More mobilization required. https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-ato/3668762-russia-needs-to-conduct-further-form-of-mobilisation-to-continue-war-british-intelligence.html
  14. How is it possible for such a short man to be consumed with so much bile, derision and hate? Doesn't he ever wake up and think, ' Enough! Time to enjoy life. Be nice to people.'
  15. It's a perfect album embedded in the memory of so many rock lovers in the early 70s. I remember being worried at the time hearing it being played in Hull's department store 'What! Have Floyd sold out? Floyd are underground man, not for middle aged shoppers buying shirts'. Lol
  16. A Russian offensive is stalling badly. https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2023/02/08/smashed-by-ukrainian-mines-and-artillery-russias-winter-offensive-just-ground-to-a-halt-outside-vuhledar/
  17. Sad to see Roger slagging off Rick Wright and Dave Gilmour as only musicians, not artists, unable to write songs. Every Floyd fan knows how central and unique to their sound is the playing of both members. Waters' solo albums contain some great songs but the lack of authoritative and moving guitar work exposes the bare bones of many of the songs. Depressive with no redeeming musical grandeur that Gilmour could provide to uplift the spirit.
  18. Not so much left in the tank for Russia these days https://edition.cnn.com/2023/02/09/europe/1000-russian-tanks-destroyed-ukraine-war-intl-hnk-ml/index.html
  19. Water's speech praised by the Russians. Last autumn he denied the Russians had committed any atrocities in Ukraine. Brain Damage https://newsunrolled.com/world/177384.html
