The Conspiracy That Won’t Die - Jeffrey Epstein

I am sure there are many people who want that he is as dead as possible. Can you get convicted for killing a man who is already dead? -
British drug dealer busted and back in cuffs after Thailand trip
OneMoreFarang replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
That's what they should do with all the Thai criminals who flee the country for years. And about the drug dealer: I guess some R&R in Thailand before a long prison sentence is better than waiting for the police in the UK. -
Where did I say nothing will change? A lot will change. But the basic principle that "bad" people will use AI to manipulate people and get richer by exploiting not so rich and not so smart people, I am pretty sure that won't change. The USA and the recent elections are a good example. Did people vote for Bernie Sanders or somebody like him to make life better for ordinary people? Why did people vote for rich well-connected people? Because other rich well-connected people donated huge amounts of money. And manipulation on social media, etc. I don't see any reason why this concept should change. Will the poor control the most powerful AI? No!

Please tell me, statistically speaking, after living in Bangkok for 29 years, how many accidents was I statistically involved in? How often was I robbed? How often some tourist scam? Somehow, I am pretty sure the statistic won't match with my reality.

Publicity stunt: PM Paetongtarn launches monthly TV show

How many of the accidents up country are reported to the police and how many are shown in the media? When things happen in rural areas, who reports it? Who publishes what happens? If in Bangkok on a busy junction someone dies, then probably thousand of people see it and there is a good chance that someone will publish it. But up country, on a little road, who is there to report it? And even if we have statistics, how detailed are they? I.e. I live in lower Sukhumvit. I am sure this area of Bangkok is very different from many other areas in Bangkok. And one village up country is different than another village or a small town or whatever. So if anybody want to live in place A, then that place should be well defined. I.e. do you live in an expensive condominium in Thong Lor? Or in some little Soi in On Nut? Or near a slum near the harbor? It's like asking how much money people earn. Some earn little, some a lot, and you won't earn the average of those numbers.

I bought from them a couple of times. As far as I know they don't have any warehouse in Thailand. When you order it, they import it. I only use them if that is the only place where I find what I want, because normally they are a lot more expensive than other sources.

This reminds me of the time when the internet got popular. People were sure that now we all didn't have to reply on centralized media anymore. We could just listen to all those people around the world. Free exchange of knowledge. Poor countries will profit from the free knowledge of the rich countries. Exchange of ideas. And everybody will be well informed and make good decisions with all that knowledge and wisdom. And then? Obviously, we can get knowledge and accurate news from the internet. But it seems most people use facebook, tiktok, X and other manipulative media and think they are well informed. And look who people vote for who are supposedly well informed. I am sure AI will be very powerful. And I am also sure greedy people and manipulative people will use it any way they want. And who will (be able to) stop them? Nobody!

Thaksin Vows to Fix Thai Economy Amid Claims of Mismanagement

Similar to that big country of the free in the west... -
Sorry, I disagree almost 100% with your post. To be fair, I am 99% in Bangkok and seldom up country. No gangs - I never had problems with any gangs in Bangkok. I am sure here are gangs somewhere, and I am also sure there are gangs up country, i.e. loan shark gangs human trafficking - there seem to be enough brothels up country, and families who sell their daughters safer driving - I saw many drunk drivers up country. It seems to me because there is almost no law enforcement in the villages nobody cares. farangs aren't targets like in big cities and tourist areas - I remember when I was with the Thai family in a park and it got dark and the Thai youngsters got drunk, and more drunk. My Thai family told me we better get back before those youngster get stupid ideas. How often does that happen? I don't know. But it doesn't seem that that was an unusual event. quieter - wait for the next temple party, and the next one, and the next less accidents - really? All those drunk motorcycle drivers seem to be often involved in accidents. I guess about once a year I hear about a deadly accident in the family or close friends (where my gf goes to the funeral). Obviously without good statistics this is difficult to impossible to compare. Our personal observations are subjective.

Is it much safer? Just alone the amount of aggressive dogs would be a reason for me not to live up country.

Just in general, it seems many women don't want that their husband (alone or together with her) lives in Thailand because here are so many pretty young available girls. Women, especially when they get older, don't want competition. And I am sure they don't tell their husband: I don't want that we live there because probably you will look for a pretty girl half my age. So, what do they do? Find other reasons. It's too hot, too much crime, whatever.

I live in the middle of Bangkok since almost 30 years. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Obviously, I don't expect that everybody thinks like that. But I know enough people who like big city life.

Foundation Seeks 50,000 Signatures to Oppose Thai Casinos
OneMoreFarang replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Do you remember the bridge playing foreigner which the Thai police arrested a couple of years ago? Was that really a big crime which had to be stopped? Lots of Thai people like to play cards, in private, at home, with friends. If the police find out they will arrest the people or demand bribes. It seems often people only play for change. At the end of a night maybe they win or lose 1000B. Is that a crime which needs to be stopped? Obviously, there are people who don't want to stop gambling. How to make sure they don't gamble and/or don't lose all their money? By letting them gamble in the thousands of illegal casinos in Thailand? Or would it make sense to make it legal and controll it? The problem are obviously those influential people who own those illegal casinos which bring them lot of money. -
With my bike more than once they put oil on the chain - and made sure the brake disc also gets some oil coverage...

This is for testing only, maybe for a minute. I have an 8000W water heater with a defect part. According to the service technician it will take about 2 to 3 months before I will get a spare part - free on warranty. But because I don't want to live in "winter" for a couple of months without hot shower I bought a new water heater, and I installed it where the defect water heater used to be. Now I expect to get a call in maybe 2 months that the technician will have the new part and visit me to install it. And obviously it would make sense to test this. But I don't really want to remove my new water heater just to install and test the old water heater and then reverse that again. The 8000W heater needs max about 36A, way more than a normal power outlet with 16A breaker supplies. So long term this wouldn't work. The question is, could I temporary connect this thing to a water supply and 16A breaker 2.5sqmm cable to test it for a minute, maybe just opening the water a little so that less power is consumed? When the water is warm, test done, disconnect, all done. Good idea? It would be great if only people with electric knowledge answer this questions. Thanks And yes, I have enough electric knowledge that I know this would probably "work". But is it a good idea? Any alternatives?

And lots of adults, including my girlfriend, just pay it for fun from time to time. Gambling in all kinds of forms, including the legal and illegal lotteries, is something millions and millions of Thais do all the time. Most of them enjoy it and don't bet the whole farm. Making gambling legal was mentioned in Thai politics since decades. And now? Make it legal for expensive casinos and keep it illegal for Noi and Somchai? Gambling, including casinos for everyday Thai people, should be properly regulated and taxed. And illegal loan sharks should go to jail. That would be good for Thailand. But obviously that is not what the Shinawatras and their greedy lackeys want. -
Western Food - when only this will do !
OneMoreFarang replied to CharlieH's topic in Western Food in Thailand
When I arrived in Thailand, long time ago, I somehow had this idea to only eat Thai food. I think I did this for maybe one or two months and then I was really fed up with it. And for some time I ate only farang food. Then not much later I adjusted to eat whatever I feel like at that moment. Sometimes Thai food, sometimes food from "back home", sometime Japanese, Korean, Lebanese, whatever. Living in the middle of Bangkok here it is easy to find whatever I want. And sometimes I do it myself. I.e. decent steak is very expensive outside, and doing it myself is a fraction of the price and it tastes just fine. -

Thaksin Vows to Fix Thai Economy Amid Claims of Mismanagement
OneMoreFarang replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Where does the mismanagement come from? Maybe too many corrupt and incompetent people in charge? When the Thai justice system doesn't keep criminals in jail or doesn't even convict them, then nobody should be surprised about mismanagement. Maybe some journalists should ask Thaksin who he is to be on stage and make demands?- 32 replies
