  1. You didn't make it to my ignore list until now. I leave it up to you to interpret this as good or bad news.
  2. I hope you are right. And obviously Trump is not the only person who uses this smokescreen concept. But then, I recently saw that many Americans get most of their news from facebook, twitter and tiktok. I don't have too much hope that they will pay attention.
  3. From the original post which I commented on: So, it seems the idea was to hire someone who speaks Thai but then later they found out the hired the wrong person. And in case you didn't know, many girls have at least two FB pages. One for their farang lover in English and another one for her Thai friends in Thai, often full of information and pictures which her farang lover is not supposed to see.
  4. For me it's a mix. I work on my PC. And sometimes I want a break. Then I will likely look here. And depending on how much work I have, I take more or less times for those breaks. Sometimes there are people who want answer. If I can help, I do that. Sometimes it's funny. Fine. Sometimes I am annoyed with Trump and other idiots. Then it feels good to write a couple of lines to annoy those MAGA fanboys. I look regularly at the list of new and trending topics on the right. Half of them are from regulars who are on my ignore list. Some are interesting. About addictive: I use AN only on my desktop PC at home. I never had the urge to use it when I am away from home.
  5. Thanks for confirming that bullies are a problem. And as far as I know until now nobody was able to teach all those bullies to be nice. We live in the real world, and it doesn't make much sense to dream about how nice this world could be if everyone would be nice and play by the rules.
  6. Yes, that is better. But it would be even better if the parents were male and female. I have to admit I don't know how many children are being left rotting in a children’s home because nobody wants them.
  7. The "..." in my post should have helped you. Or let me say it differently. If someone hires a person in Thailand to do something which requires Thai language, do you think it would be smart to hire someone who is not fluent in Thai? Now please don't ask me to explain this question and possible answer for you. Some things are obvious and don't have to be explained.
  8. And there are parts where Trump, with an R, won. I wonder which one is worse.
  9. But how true is that? I know from one guy who successfully did this that he paid a lot of money. I contacted the lawyer who did that for him, and he also spoke about a 6-digit amount. On the other hand, a good friend did this maybe 10 years ago and he didn't pay any extras apart from the lawyer. Is it necessary to pay extra? Maybe. Who really knows? I think many of us who live here since a long time are not surprised that some officials want money. But it is difficult to estimate how necessary these payments are.
  10. From www.perplexity.ai As of recent estimates, approximately 200,000 Western expatriates reside in Malaysia, primarily concentrated in Kuala Lumpur. Thailand hosts a larger expatriate community, with estimates indicating around over 400,000 Western foreigners living in the country.
  11. And would you expect that all officials in Thailand would be perfect in reading, writing and talking in English? When +90% of their work is with Thais and in Thai language? And then all documents would have to be in Thai and English and all that. Lots of work for what? A few farangs? And if they have a second language why not Mandarin Chinese?
  12. I understand why some people don't learn Thai. I knew and know a couple of managers in a luxury hotel in Bangkok. They have those jobs for a few years and then they move to another country with another language. And they work and live in an environment where almost everybody speaks English. They don't need Thai. That doesn't mean that maybe it would be nice if they would learn a little Thai. But realistically, if you never use it, why learn it?
  13. Is it all common sense? To me it seems MAGA fans believe everything Trump tells them - at least I get that impression from seeing Trump and those MAGA fans. Do they all think by themself, and do they all have common sense? Or is it more like a cult where everybody shouts hurray because everybody around them shouts hurray?
  14. And how does that work in school? Do all the kids learn what the teachers tell them? Are they all nice kids who would never ever say a bad word? Do kids like that exist? And obviously the kids learn not only in school. They learn from their parents, the internet and all those nice influencers. To make it clear: If all kids and all parents would be nice to each other and if nobody would be ridiculed, then I guess all would be fine and children of same sex parents would have no problems. But that's like saying the world would be wonderful if there would be no wars. It would be nice, but it's unrealistic.
  15. I remember someone explained it like this: Imagine how many people would have to be involved to fake this. And then remember that all those people would have to be quiet about that forever, maybe 50 years or more. How likely is that?
  16. That sounds similar to me. IMHO most people learn what they have to learn. Some learn even more. My Thai is good enough to tell a taxi driver where to go. And I can order food, ask for the way, and things like that. My Thai is not good enough to have a business conversation in Thai or to listen to Thai TV. And all of this is because what I need. I need basic Thai to be able to get around and eat. I don't need business Thai because people who I do business with speak better English than I speak Thai. Some people need more language skills, some less. It depends.
  17. As far as I know to get residency in Thailand people have to work here for at least 3 years in the same company, and some other condition. I don't know the details about married people. If someone lives here for years, then he obviously survived here for years. In some areas and jobs people don't need Thai language skills, because enough Thais speak English. In other areas people have to learn Thai. And I experienced a few people who could speak Thai very well because they had no other option. I think it's good to know Thai in Thailand. But in some areas, it is not necessary because enough people speak English. Now looking at the UK, if immigrants don't speak English, how do they communicate? In Thai?
  18. Please publish a couple of pictures of her, maybe with details where she works, etc. I am sure someone here will know her...
  19. And you hired that specialist for 5k+ a day? Great idea...
  20. I think the main thing here is that Trump says things which he thinks his MAGA fanboys like and which aggravates "the left". And maybe he wants to play mind games with Putin and others. Does this have to make sense? No. So, I suggest don't even try to find any logic in what he says.
  21. In general, I wouldn't call myself conservative. But then, I am also not what they call progressive. I am somewhere in the center. I have no doubt that there are loving same sex couples out there who take care of their children and who the children admire. I have no kids, but observing kids in general offline and online, it seems to me they are as nasty as we were when I was young. And at that time, I don't think we wanted to be nasty, it was just having fun talking bad about this and that, the teachers, other pupils, whatever. And when we found a reason to wind someone up, and that someone reacted in a way which made it fun to wind them up even more, every day, then we did that. So now, if there is i.e. a sport event at the school, and for most kids father and mother would turn up, but for one kid the two fathers would sit there. Would nobody mention it? Or would there be comments like: What is that? Who is your dad? Does he have a boyfriend. Or something like that. And obviously that would happen again and again and again. Some kids might be able to shrug it off, no problem. But I am sure other kids will suffer. Maybe quietly, maybe not so quiet. Will they grow up without any damage? I have my doubt.
  22. From the Daikin website: "Air quality filter which can filter both PM2.5 dust and germs." https://www.daikin.co.th/en/category/ResidentialProduct#tabCategoryRoomAir I have one of those ACs. Does it make a big difference? I don't really know. But looking at the filter in my air purifier and the filter in the AC I doubt the AC filters a lot.
  23. So how do you think we should discuss things? Like I think there are two genders by the definition of 1950. And 3 by the definition of 2020? And 70 in 2024? Or what? That's why I tried to explain my opinion without that word. Because currently there is no agreed definition of that word.
  24. There are two sexes: male (XY) and female (XX). And there are gay guys and guys who have an operation which removes the male genitals and things like that. I am sure some people just feel like they are born in the wrong body. Is that a different gender, by today's definition? I don't know. The concept that all kids are somehow born the same and are manipulated to behave like boys or girls is obviously BS. And I am pretty sure most of us know it's BS. But then there are of course some very loud activists. And some people who think they can make a lot of money from trans people. And too many people are too scared to say in public that those activists are nutters.
