  1. A couple of general comments. This is a place where you can easily research prices, what's available, etc. https://www.onestockhome.com/ What you use should be very much related to what the builders know. Don't try to ask Thai builders to use material which they don't know. I don't know how many builders know each material. But as you said, there are differences, and don't trust your builders to know those differences... And from my current inside renovation I suggest: Don't use too thin blocks/walls. If you have a pipe on one side or a wall and another pipe on the other side of the wall, then you have suddenly a hole in the middle...
  2. That reminds me of advice from a friend in Bangkok who sold condominiums. What he did and advised people to do is to go to the car park and look at the cars. What kind of cars are there? What condition? Are there any abandoned cars? I guess the same principle would apply to a mooban. And cars are easier to see than the occasional party at night.
  3. You have to take what's available in your office. Call them and ask them. Normally they all have people who speak English. What is "best" depends on your area/building. Ask the neighbors.
  4. Do you or your wife pay cash? Or do you or your wife need a mortgage? Do you have Thai nationality? Or permanent residency? Fine. If not, then it gets more difficult to impossible. It seems one big reason that many people, Thais and foreigners in Thailand, prefer new is because the developers have all the agreements with the banks. If you buy "used" and you want to renovate it, expect better prices but lots of headache.
  5. Then people will use them on the footpath. Personally I think those things should not be allowed. They are a risk on streets, they are a risk on footpath, and they are a risk when they are charged. Bad, bad, bad. Just ban them!
  6. Imagine if all politicians of all parties would have at least a little spine. People who lied constantly and repeatedly should be banned right away. OUT! I am not old enough to remember if there was ever such a time.
  7. As far as I know for things like that Thais go to MBK. And it seems those "hackers" have some kind of agreement with the authorities that the get away with what they are doing. I doubt you can offer it for a compatible price and if you would be successful then you can be pretty sure that it won't take long before some Thais will explain to you that you shouldn't do that. Summary: Don't do it. It will be headache or headache. There is no possible good outcome.
  8. That won't happen. Parents in general don't want that. Woke idiots like to make live for kids more difficult with drag queens and critical race theory and other idiotic ideologies.
  9. Reading this is interesting. Personally it happens seldom to me that the waiter tries to give the change back to my gf. And if it happens then she shows him/her they should give it to me. Fine. But mostly they give it back to me. So maybe they don't all hate all foreigners. Reading your comment, I understand why they don't give it to you. Because who wants to interact with someone who thinks and writes "Thais are appallingly xenophobic and racist." With you I am pretty sure they would be delighted if you got on an airplane and left tomorrow or better today. The problem is your attitude. Change that and you might live relaxed and peacefully and maybe Thais will give you the change. Otherwise think about that plane home. It will improve not only your life but also the lives of many Thais and non-Thai-hating foreigners in this beautiful country.
  10. Maybe his point is that if you can't keep your cool for an hour then maybe let someone else do it for you.
  11. Does that mean they banned Trump again? Or how violent does is have to be before users are banned?
  12. And lots of Thais will have heard that and probably they thought: What is wrong with that guy? Or more in general: What is wrong with those farangs who like to swear? Stay cool, relax, you won't get better or faster service when you behave like that. They should have escorted you outside the building to give you a chance to cool down.
  13. They shouldn't be there! And if they are there, then, IMHO, they should be far away from any other vehicles and obviously the owners should pay for the electricity they use. They should also pay for an insurance in case one of those things decides to go up in flames. It's pretty sure that will happen, it's just a question of when.
  14. Probably he can have his stars - or at least the version 30 year after they were successful. But probably that is a good match for him. ????
  15. Are you sure? 'HMR' stands for 'high moisture resistance' From Google: 'HMR' stands for 'high moisture resistance' and is arguably the best material for a vanity cabinet – especially one that's in the bathroom where lots of moisture, steam and water are splashed all over your bathroom furniture every single day.
  16. Some kitchen cabinets, i.e. from IKEA, have about 10cm legs. It would be easy to lower the height by using shorter legs.
  17. I think I paid about 5,000 THB for all the (cut to size) aluminium parts for a desk. This includes lots of parts which are not strictly necessary. And the glass plate, tempered glass, was extra. I will do that again in the near future for at least one more table. I like the look and the flexibility of the construction. And all the parts are easy to disassemble and reassemble in a different way again. The sales from Peal react fast to emails and they give you precise quotations. They are also on Lazada and it's easy to look up prices of basic parts.
  18. Can you or others maybe explain a little which wood product is best for a tabletop, legs, etc. A few weeks ago, I looked in Lazada and I found this HMR. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/i2880947772-s10513009651.html I guess it will do the job, but I don't know how it compares to your suggestions above. And what is a reasonable thickness for a tabletop, in my case for a worktop. Is 18mm ok? Too thin? Too thick? Thanks
  19. I find these things interesting. I bought two for a worktable. https://www.ikea.com/th/th/p/mittback-trestle-birch-50459996/
  20. As a possible alternative, I build my own table with aluminium profiles and a glass top. You can buy profiles in standard size or cut to the length which you want from this and other companies: http://www.thepearlcorp.com/ The material is like this. My desk looks obviously a lot better - at least the part which I see under all that clutter. ????
  21. Wow, is that a new term? Will we all bleed to death when the waiter tries to return the change to the missus?
  22. Same same. It seems many Thai people don't want to be alone. Maybe they share a (tiny) room not because of the reduced cost but because they don't want to be alone - and maybe alone with the ghosts. I am happy to live together with my gf, but if she visits the family for a week and I am "alone" at home also like that. It's quiet. And then I am happy when she is back again. And if I want to see people there are millions of them in viewing distance.
  23. Who will pay for that? I hope the electricity users on those islands - and nobody else.
  24. Thanks I checked those shops online and I didn't find anything. Obviously I can go there but I want to avoid going there only to find out they don't have it...
