In my condominium renovation I need lots of electric wall boxes. From Europe I am used to plastic boxes. They seem to work just fine. Yesterday an experienced Thai electrician, who is used to customers who want quality and not cheap, told me they always use metal boxes but he couldn't tell me the advantage of them. If cost is not an issue would you use plastic or metal boxes. They are in the wall like in the sample pictures below. Until now I think plastic is the better choice because even if a cable is damaged plastic is no electric conductor. And because they are fixed in the wall they don't get damaged or eaten by rodents or something like this. What do you think?

There are some people out there who pay a lot more than 6k per month. Would you walk away from 60k? -
rent condo deposit question
OneMoreFarang replied to hadock's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
I wonder if there is anybody here in the forum who really knows what would be necessary to get the money back if the landlord refuses to pay. Let's say the property is in perfect conditions, all bills are paid, no problems at all. But the landlord doesn't give the deposit back. Let's say monthly rent was 20k and deposit was 40k. What would be legally possible and how long would it take? If a lawyer would charge i.e. 30k and if it would take a year, who would want to do that? Maybe someone here knows the details of the cost and how long it takes. -
rent condo deposit question

Does it make a difference from whom do you rent it? According to posts in this forum some people get their deposit back and others not, almost independent if there is any damage or not. If the owner, even if he is Thai and living next door, refuses to gives you the deposit back, what will you do? Hire a lawyer and fight about it? Maybe for years? -

Accusing single males of pedophile
OneMoreFarang replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
It seems many people don't even know the meaning of the word pedophile. They use it as a cuss word like idiot or communist or whatever. Whenever I sit in a bar with a young and legal girl and some guys give me that "you are a pervert pedophile " look I make sure I give her an extra smack on the butt just to pi$# him off. Apart from that it seems to depend on the hotel. Some hotels want to be family friendly and they don't want to see anybody who looks like he is possibly a single male. Some receptionist treat those single males badly. I guess the idea is to "clean up" the hotel for the good families. -
Maybe you are the specialist in everything. But how many of us are on that level? In general I am not bad in DIY, but not in everything. I.e. I looked at at least 20 videos how to lay tiles. In theory I am sure I am pretty good at that. The only problem is that I never actually did it. That makes it extreme unlikely that everything will be correct if I do it myself. There are expert builders out there in Thailand. How do I know? Look at all the high price hotels, condominiums, shopping malls, etc. Many of them are made by professionals who know what they are doing. But obviously these people are more expensive than Somchai. It's good if you know what you are doing. But it's also good if many of us know that criticizing someone else work is a lot easier than doing it ourselves better.

Good that I don't need such enlargement. Whenever I see one of my favorite bar girls they tell me: It's so big! ????

Half of GOP Voters Ready to Leave Trump Behind, Poll Finds
OneMoreFarang replied to Scott's topic in World News
That means more than half still support a lying traitor who is also incompetent, thinks he is super smart, and and and. Really? Are that the qualities which you want for the American president, the most powerful person in this world? I understand that people also don't like Biden and many other politicians. So how about voting (in the primaries and later) for someone who at least tries to be honest? How about someone who knows his limitations and doesn't think he knows everything? And how about someone who tries to unite the people in the country? Or is that too much to ask? -

Where will all the money come from?
OneMoreFarang replied to swissie's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
You are right, I was confused about the letters. IMHO Millennials were bad and it didn't get any better after that. -
I understand that younger people are not so experienced in recognizing scams. But I think some things should be obvious even for them. Looking at the domain name 4ixkw2uykd.cc what does this tell us? A name which doesn't make sense and .cc for (from Wikipedia) ".cc is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, an Australian territory." A domain lookup quest shows the registrant is hidden. These are, at least for me, already 3 big red flags. And if people don't know how to lookup domain details then they can still talk to other people who are able to do that. Like: Father, can you please help me with this. I found this opportunity to make a lot of money. What do you think about that?

Where will all the money come from?
OneMoreFarang replied to swissie's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
When I look at Gen X I don't think I want to be around when they grow up and run the world. Maybe they learn something in between from the older generations but I wouldn't bet on that. -
When Dating a Woman, How Important is Her IQ?
OneMoreFarang replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Did you ever participate in an IQ test? I mean a real certified test which takes hours? Then you would know that the test is not just one test. There are several test. One person might be very good in one test and not so good in another test. Intelligent people understand things fast - in general. Not every intelligent person is a mathematic genius or someone who can learn instruments fast. And obviously there is high IQ and very high IQ. Only about 15% of people have an IQ higher than 115. And 2% are higher than 132. And then there are the 0.0xxx% groups. There are not many of them around. -

That's great. Compare that to an intelligent western woman who wants constantly meaningful conversations with you about how you spend your money (= her money). -
When Dating a Woman, How Important is Her IQ?
OneMoreFarang replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Likely she won't want you. Women want a partner who is on their level or higher. Never lower. Women with high and very high IQ have difficulties finding a partner because there are not so many men with very high IQs. And men don't use the same system. Statistically men more or less don't care about which job she has or IQ. -
When Dating a Woman, How Important is Her IQ?
OneMoreFarang replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I have a genius IQ and a good enough job to earn money for two (I don't want children). The optimal girl would be: relative young, cute, sexy, honest, good personality, fun to be with, a good cook, a good housewife and intelligent. And obviously she must love me and make me happy. Now which of those qualities are necessary in a female partner? And which can be replaced with other people? Personally I wouldn't be interested in any girl who is not is not in this group: relative young, cute, sexy, honest, good personality, fun to be with I could cook myself or hire a maid. And intelligence? I think she must be smart enough to live without problems. I.e. she must be able to count and use money efficiently for maybe a week or so. If she visits her family up country she must be smart enough that after the week she still has enough money left in her pocket to return. She must also be smart enough not to fall for all the scams which are out there. That level is IMHO necessary. More intelligence is fine with me. But how many high intelligent girls are out there who meet the other criteria? As far as I see: very few. And most of them wouldn't be interested in me. So the short answer is: She should have enough IQ to be able to function in life and don't make too many stupid mistakes. For the rest I will think for both of us. ???? -

That might concern people who live in the west. But it doesn't concern westers who live outside the west like farangs in Thailand. So should we care? Personally I don't. -
How do insurers and hospitals share medical history?
OneMoreFarang replied to Thomas299's topic in Insurance in Thailand
If they want to find out then likely they will find out. One reason is that with every insurance contract you sign that you allow they to get all your health records from everyone. Now the good and the bad news: Mostly they don't ask anybody, because that would create cost for them which they want to avoid. They insure you and they will likely pay all your little bills without problems (if it's according to the conditions of your contract. But if you ever have i.e. an expensive operation and they think that could be connected to a previous condition, then they start digging. And if they find a little then maybe they dig deeper. And if they then find something what you should have told them but you didn't then they might tell you that they are not willing to pay that big bill because you lied to them. So better think twice. -
Time for a new Samsung phone - which to get?
OneMoreFarang replied to Sheryl's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
It seems many people who buy apple are apple fans. They buy everything from apple just because it's apple. And enough of them line up at midnight to buy the next gadget in the morning. For many of us outsiders that seems to be a strange bunch of people. And for me that is already reason enough not to buy apple. Additionally it seems many of their products are very expensive. Now it's easy to buy a reasonable phone for 5000B or less. So why spend double or triple or more? -
