So much about the land of the free. Obviously, I don't know if that guy did anything illegal - and withing the jurisdiction of the USA. If he did, why didn't they charge him and convict him? And if he didn't do anything illegal within the jurisdiction of the USA what gives them the right to detain him for years and without charging him? The rest of the world can't tell the USA often enough that that is entirely unacceptable.

Really? The landlord has his name and his passport copy. Lots of things can happen and might happen. Do you really want to worry about the next time some official wants to see your passport?

Or you do it the other way around. It works, professionals work like that since decades.

And about the specs: Look up the specs at the manufacturer's website. There you can find all the details. Many shops just copy and paste and have little knowledge or interests in the details. With reputable shops like JIB you can contact them and they have qualified people who don't just say yes. They check the details and you can rely on them.

If you buy your computer parts from a well known reliable distributor and pick the good items and accept the existing prices then there is no problem. It's unrealistic to expect to get something for cheaper than market value. That's reality. It doesn't make sense to fight reality.

I try to look up "Acer Z Aspire" but I didn't find anything. Is that an all in one computer - CPU and monitor all in one case? Or is there a separate PC (many call it CPU) and a monitor? If they are separate components, then just buy a new monitor and within a minute all will be fine again. If it is all in one then look if there is a video output somewhere. If yes, then you can connect a (new) external screen and all will be fine. If you don't know maybe find the label on the computer and make a picture and post it here. Then we can look it up online.

How long have you lived in Thailand? Do you have first hand experience of what you write or just something that you read or saw in the news? Many politicians before and after Thaksin are liked by some people and not liked by other people. Thaksin is loved by maybe >30% of Thais and at the same time hated by maybe >30% of Thais. The exact figures don't really matter. Thaksin never even tried to unite the nation. He had popular politics like the rice scam to get the votes from the poor (farmers). And at the same time, he enriched himself and his family and cronies. Obviously other politicians did that and do that as well, but I don't think any other Thai politician was so much corrupt in your face like Thaksin. He always had this: I do what I want and I don't care what you think and what are you going to do about it? And then he fled the country when finally the courts did something about it and convicted him. Thaksin wants to come back to Thailand and he obviously does not want to go to jail for his crimes. His daughter will try to bring him back. And option 1 she will fail to do that or option 2 there will be mayhem if he returns. Both are bad for Thailand, and he should know. But obviously he does not care. It's about him and his ego. Like I mentioned earlier: Hopefully he will die in the desert, the sooner the better.

I hope for the good old times like before Covid.

50,000 deposit and no passport will maybe do the job. I am sure many of the people/companies who rent out bikes in places like Pattaya are well connected. It is not a good idea to upset them. And when everybody is demanding a passport then customers know they have to bring their passport. If you would open a shop and maybe you would even advertise no passport necessary, what kind of people do you think you would attract? Most likely some not so honest people...

And those hired people might change all the time. So if i.e. your neighbor had great experience with a plumber from a shop that doesn't mean the same guy will visit you.

I was never in one of those places. But there is one little Japanese oriented bar on my way back home from Soi Cowboy. They have super cute girls sitting in front waiting for customers. And they are not interested at all in farangs.

How many meaningful relationships do you have with Thai women when they are not possible sex partners? I know a couple of respectable intelligent Thai women and we work sometimes together. All fine. But that's it. Farang guys and Thai girls who are interested in short of long term sexual relationships seem to be compatible. But that's it.

Is it only Thai men? Do you have any friends i.e. from Japan, China, Korea, etc.? There are lots of guys with these nationalities in Thailand. And it seems they all have their own culture. This is why there are areas full of Koreans and Korean shops. And i.e. lots of (Thai run) bars which are only specialized on Japanese customers.
