  1. "Or is the bigger problem that many people don't read the fine print and somehow assume the insurance will pay?" This fine print alone shows the mentality of insurance companies. Why can't all the wording be the same?? Don't answer that. Is there an insurance ombudsman in Thailand?? Even if there was, brown envelopes will talk TiT. These companies seem to have a licence to scam and con people, yes of course there are people who will say I'm wrong and their insurance company have paid out, but look at it from a wider point of view, do I need to say more? A long time ago I worked in a company in Europe who compared and sold private health insurance contracts. Small print and more small print and more intern regulations (i.e. how much do they pay for prescription glasses, etc.). Some conditions were the same and lots of conditions were different. And obviously the prices were different. Should we blame companies that they compete with each other? If you buy bread there are also many different sorts and quality and prices and you also don't demand that all should be the same. It's up to the customer to decide what they want and chose wisely.
  2. Option 4: Get a reasonable paid job in Thailand and enjoy life. That's what I do since almost 30 years.
  3. One of my favorites is the story about the Mexican Fisherman. Enjoy! There are many versions on the internet. This is one of them. https://aliabdaal.com/the-parable-of-the-mexican-fisherman/
  4. Not really. If you are a miserable fart then you will find lots of faults even in the right person. Just look in this forum...
  5. Some time ago I read Albert Einstein's biography written by Walter Isaacson. It's a great book. One of the fascinating facts is that Einstein lived the first 30 years or so of his life without electricity in his house. As far as I remember he had the first time electricity at home when he moved to Prague in 1911. And he made most of his groundbreaking discoveries before that time. Fascinating!
  6. What has changed? I still see lots of tourist who spend maybe 100 or 200 USD per day. It's like having a shop and aiming for customers who buy the thing with the highest profit. Yes, you can aim for that, but lots of other customers still come and buy other things. And nobody tells those other customers to go away. It's still easy for tourists to come to Thailand and enjoy a holiday. I am not up to date about the regulations but I guess it's more difficult now for people to stay here many months or all the time. I.e. people who retire here need to have 800,000B in the bank. That's 2192B per day or about 60 USD per day. Is that a problem if Thailand wants that people have at least 60 USD per day? I don't think so. And it's obviously up to Thailand and the Thai people. Think about all the restrictions which other countries have for foreigners who want to live there all year long. Many countries have much stricter regulations than Thailand. And it's every country's right to have any restrictions they want. There is no such thing as a right for every person to live wherever they want.
  7. Nowhere. You, and that bike, are not allowed to go straight at that place. I think only busses are allowed to go straight there. And I guess they know where to stop. That is Ploenchit to Sukhumvit under the highway bridge. https://www.google.com/maps/@13.7428783,100.5501881,3a,90y,64.85h,89.75t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sCbo0WasRMLVNEu00kscalg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
  8. I have not much knowledge about this. But some research in Bangkok showed to me that the prices of existing condominiums didn't change much over the last years. Today a sqm cost the same as it cost 5 years ago - and probably a lot longer. When I compare the price of existing units (maybe 20 years old) plus renovation from scratch to a very good standard that is still a lot cheaper than new buildings and units. And additionally it seems new units have very small rooms. Like how can you squeeze 3 bedrooms in 60sqm? At least I wouldn't want to live in such a shoe box - even if it is brand new and supposed to be luxury.
  9. Does your gf have a (well paid) job in Thailand? Does she have enough reasons to return to Thailand? It seems one big concern of those people who provide the visa is if she likely will go back to Thailand or if she is more likely to stay illegally in Europe, maybe work illegally in Europe, etc.
  10. Until now I was never disappointed by her. But I never renovated or built anything in Thailand and I never hired her or anybody else in Thailand in relation to construction work or management of such a project. So in theory it's possible that I could trust her with A but not with B. Or to say it in another way: I never asked her to keep a million THB cash for me for a week and look what happens. Probably she would give it back to me after that week. But would I bet on that? That's the reason for "in general".
  11. That's a perfect description for all those believers. Really? I am one of those highly intelligent people and I know other highly intelligent people. They all don't believe in god. On the other hand I also know a couple of stupid people who think they are smart. There is a name for that. It's called the Dunning–Kruger effect. But to make you happy and allow you to continue in your bubble I am out of here. I really don't want to waste my time with delusions. Enjoy believe bubble.
  12. Yeah. Fairytales, delusion, ... Enjoy the rainbow unicorns in your head.
  13. I don't expect anything from you. It's up to you what you write. But if you would have brought lots of wisdom to this thread and if you would have convinced lots of other people that god exist then you would be famous.
  14. I have to admit until now I looked at big box retailer companies only (mostly online) to look a their prices. Staying with the AC project I know a big box company will install it so that it will work. But they won't put drainage pipes inside the walls, etc. For the kind of installation which I want I am sure I pay extra. And I am willing to pay extra. But I prefer that those extras are in a written contract.
  15. Good questions. I will see her today in person and we will talk about many details. She knows already that I am demanding (her words) when it comes to details. One of the good things about her is that she has a strong personality and she is used to construction people (and critical owners). It seems she is able to get things done. I think from her point of view it's similar to this: "I know these AC/construction/whatever people since years and work with them since years. If they say they understand and do it like that this is good enough for me." She trusts them because she works with them since a long time and knows they did good work. I know her for many years and I trust her in general and I know she gets things done. This is why she is my project manager. But I am still used to "western"(?) contracts with lots of details. And if I ask a company who wants a job to list which material they will use and how much it cost and how much for labor and which labor that is then I think that is reasonable - at least from my experience mostly working with farangs. I work in Thailand and I work often together with Thai people. But I guess in 90% of the cases their boss is a farang and he signs the more or less detailed contracts. Let's look what she tells me today. I guess I will get some more details - not sure how many. My gut feeling is that I am still better off if she recommends someone with a bad written quotation from a person/company she knows compared to a detailed quotation from someone new. Let's see.
  16. Imagine to fill up that yacht with the top 1% of Pattaya's "dancers" - all of them in one place...
  17. Is it? Or is the bigger problem that many people don't read the fine print and somehow assume the insurance will pay? Obviously there are cases where the insurance should pay under the conditions of the contract and they don't pay (right away). But there are far more cases where the insurance does not pay because that was never part of the contract. I.e. with my current insurance I don't get any money when I buy prescription glasses. Long time ago I had an insurance who paid even expensive glasses. It all depends on what is covered. And that's in the contract, on many many pages.
  18. No I am not joking at all. About about your question: I don't know the answer. But I could learn about the details and then I should be able to understand the details and calculate the answer. Or I could find one or more trustworthy engineers who do that regularly and who know the answer. And the beauty of this is that I could ask 10 professional engineers all over the world and they would give me the same, or at least a similar, answer. Because they all use facts and science.
  19. And I thought I visit this thread every couple of months to be entertained by you and the usual suspects. Don't worry, I won't stay here long. Talking with delusional people from time to time can be funny. But too much of it should be avoided.
  20. Obviously lots of people know lots of things which I don't know. I listen to them or read their books, etc. I also learned a lot from many people. But all that has nothing to do with people who just believe without any evidence. If someone told me he saw a unicorn that's interesting. But just that he tells me he saw that and then I should believe it is not good enough.
  21. This is one example: In my new apartment I will have 4 ACs. I had an AC professional come to my place to look at the details. My Thai project manager and me explained to him where the AC indoor units should be, where the compressors should be, details about the condensed water drainage pipes which should be in the walls, etc. It seems he understood the situation and prepared a quotation. And then in the quotation is a list with the prices of the AC units and installation cost: amount x. No further details. Personally I would have expected that he quotes x meter of copper pipes of this size, and y meter of drainage pipes and a description what is included in the installation like i.e. opening the walls and putting drainage pipes in the walls. And maybe what is not included, i.e. power cables have to be installed to the AC unit. For me a quotation should be understandable and precise to anybody with basic knowledge about construction. Something like "we install it like we discussed" is IMHO not good enough. Now we all know this is Thailand. And expecting that something should be like this or that is one thing. But even nice people get upset when farangs ask too many (unnecessary) questions. For the supplier it seems like: we discussed this already, why should I write it all down? What do you think about this? Did you demand detailed quotations? Did you get them? Or did you get quotations like "installation included" only to find out that your understanding of that term was different than what the supplier had in mind? Thanks in advance for your replies. It would be good if you talk about your actual experience in Thailand. Not how it should be or what happened somewhere else. What is your experience with quotations in Thailand? And to be clear, this is about professional companies and professional people. Not about Somchai says he can can do that.
  22. I think this thread is a wonderful example of such bubble. Most reasonable people left this "discussion" a long time ago. So now the believers talk to the believers and they all live in the same dream world. Wonderful. Maybe someone should open a flat-earther thread or something similar.
  23. Maybe have a look here: https://www.onestockhome.com/en/search?utf8=✓&query=quilted+stainless+steel I don't know if they have what you are looking for. But they have a lot. And maybe you see something similar and then ask the supplier.
  24. "careful, artistic design"? By whom? And did you hear about evolution? It's very interesting. And it's not random at all.
  25. And then there are people who think they know something which others don't know and don't see. There is a word for it: delusion And that is best case. Maybe they are also crazy or have another bad mental condition.
