  1. My experience of this completely fraudulent rebranding exercise is in Philippines, where oyo, like reddorz, has simply rebranded numerous dreadful low end dumps into appearing to offer a glamorous new lifestyle. They seem to think that adding a red sash to the beds somehow qualifies as a dynamic and significant upgrade.

  2. What do the agents charge for an E class visa 12 month extension for retirement at Koh Kong? Seems the current rate in Phnom Penh is $295 standard or $375 same day express. I live near the border and am wondering if

1 it's easy to get the 30 day E class visa at hat lek and

2 I can avoid schlepping all the way to Phnom Penh to get the 12 month multi entry extension

I read it can be difficult to get the initial 30 day E class at hat lek without coughing up

  3. My clever UK bank (Virgin, in fact RBS) is bringing in 2 step verification, ie texting an OTP to a mobile number. But the brilliant bankers have only about 15 countries available to select from. So I figured get a UK SIM and switch it on when receiving the text, as I do in Philippines with my Thai number for my Thai bank. It works too. But I need a UK SIM obviously. Any ideas where I might find one here? Otherwise it's get one sent out.

    Thanks

  4. I live in a house that I own (my name is on the building permit), but which is on land owned by my daughter. Got a visit recently from immigration (almost unheard of where I live) and got fined 1600 THB for no TM30. They actually fined my daughter, who lives in London, but I paid. I downloaded a Power of Attorney form and emailed it across to her. She filled in her part, scanned and sent it back. I filled in my part. A week ago on returning from abroad, went to local immigration office, produced said document, TM30 filled in, copy of Thai id, blue book. All good.

  5. Update...

I tried reporting myself. I enter all details and save from the input screen. But I get an error message every time I click 'Record' in the top right hand corner. It says "Import data in sequence (1) is incorrect". That suggests the spreadsheets aren't set up correctly to store the data from the forms. I've downloaded and filled in TM30.xls and tried importing that. It uploads it and I can see a new record created, but still isn't accepted when I click Record.

Can't see where I'm going wrong on the data. The xls file has mm/DD/yyyy formats, but these get reformatted to Dd/mm/yyyy.

    What a complete shambles.

  6. I live on Koh Mak, tiny island, many sea miles from immigration at Laem Ngop. I had a visit from 3 IOs and 3 local police last Saturday. No TM30. 1600 THB fine. The land my house is on belongs to my Thai daughter. The house belongs to me (name on building permit). So I try to register online as this could become a real PITA as I travel a fair bit.

But, the form only lists 3 districts for Trad, which is my province. Meuang, Klong Yai and Khao Saming. My amphur is Koh Kood. So I proceeded, using Klong Yai. They moved the immigration office there last year, then moved it back to Laem Ngop, which is where I report and extend.

I want to contact the immigration department that deals with online registration to ask why only 3 districts listed in Trad. Does anyone have a number? Tried the one that scrolls up on the login screen but no answer.

PS apart from that, registration seemed to go ok. I'm awaiting notification.

  7. Thanks, that's what I had originally assumed, but after seeking clarification at the IO, they were unable to confirm this, and like I said, advised "playing it safe". So I've basically had to assume the worst, and topped up my account from the UK 6 months in advance. Hugely annoying, but I guess on the bright side it means I'll only need another 400k in June.

On a personal note, I'm beginning to think the 400 rule might prove a deal breaker for me. Basically seems like they're requiring we post a 400k bond. £10,000 wrapped up in perpetuity.

It went into effect for extensions of stay done after March 1st. It is not retroactive for extensions done before March 1st.

Sorry if I'm a little slow on the uptake. So you think if I have to extend in September 2019, I will need to show minimum 400k right through from March 1st 2019 as well as the 800k 3 months prior. Is that right?

  9. I went to my IO at Laem Ngop down in Trad today to check if I needed the 400k in my bank from 1st March. My retirement extension isn't until September. I know about the 800k and will ensure it's in there 3 months prior. But there seems to be some confusion over whether everybody, irrespective of renewal dates, has to have the minimum 400k in, from March 1st 2019. The IOs didn't know either, and rang somebody who also didn't have a clue, so the advice was, put it in, just in case. Well, good advice, no doubt, but I ask you!

So, does anyone know how the 400k plays out? Does it kick in immediately, or only subsequent to your next extension? If it's the former, have Thai banks suddenly seen an avalanche of deposits? Just <deleted> is the point of all this?
