  1. Simple enough to make sure things like bankbooks aren't left lying around for police to find. I doubt very much if it's in the police's role to be confiscating bankbooks and advising banks to freeze accounts.
  2. Thanks. I asked on the Pattaya forum because it's from here I would be making my way to the embassy. If I was in Hua Hin I would have asked on that forum.
  3. There isn't, but you already knew that didn't you?

    Will Advice

Anyone recommend a good lawyer here in Pattaya to write up a simple will, just for a couple of bank accounts and to arrange cremation basically.
  5. How did you get there, self drive, taxi, bus etc? Is it easy to find?
  6. Yes, thanks. Sounds like a good solution if Immigration happy to accept joint account.
  7. How would the police know, by checking every bank in Thailand? I very much doubt if police check every deceased persons account to see whether it's a joint account and freeze it if it is. Makes no sense.
  8. Thanks, that would solve the problem of my partner not being to access the 800K I use for Immigration. Just transfer that money into our joint account which has much more than the 1.6 mill needed. Question is, when would be the right time to do it without causing Immigration problems?
  9. There is no main account holder with a joint bank account, not that I'm aware of.
  10. Already corrected myself re the POD form.
  11. Bought a 750ml bottle of Jacobs Creek Cab Sav for 440 baht from 7/11 today. Pretty sure these were over 600 baht before.
  12. Slightly off topic, but has anyone used a joint account for the 800K? I know I did once years ago, and was told that they would only assess half the money in a joint account, ie would need a minimum of 1.6 mill, but not sure if that's still acceptable.
  13. He would have to have proof of the value of the necklace and receipt of purchase before insurance will pay out. Plus the necklace would have to be listed on his policy. Scamming insurance companies years ago wasn't difficult, but now they are much more thorough in their investigations.
  14. My partner has had my Pin numbers for years, never had a worry about her dipping into the accounts, although she could they as they are joint accounts. She has her own account with a couple of mil in as well.
  15. I've never heard of that kind of account, is that what the bank calls it?
  16. Funny you mention that because we're going today to transfer a mil.
  17. So that would take 10 months of daily withdrawals.
  18. Long story short, I went through all the steps of getting married a few years ago with my partner of 15 years, like going to the Aussie embassy, getting translations done etc, but found out before I took the last step of getting married in a Amphur office that being married would impact my Aussie pension, so cancelled it. Now I'm 82 not too bothered what Centrelink might find out, so rather than go through all the same steps wondering what an agent can do to save me running around?
  19. The one thing that might make it a bit awkward is that I set a limit of 30K a day, so it would take some time to deplete or transfer the money in the account at that rate.
  20. No, I said that the SCB I Googled wasn't the SCB in Thailand, that's not to say a POD form or similar is not available here. Not up to you when a post gets closed.
  21. Are you a moderator?
  22. I'll ask the bank, but I don't think there is anything illegal about the surviving partner accessing money from a joint account.
  23. You are correct. I was mistaken, I got SCB (Standard Charted Bank), confused with SCB Thailand.
  24. I stand corrected. I Googled SCB but I got Standard Chartered Bank, which I believe in the US.
  25. If there is such a thing as a POD form, and it says there is online, surely that would allow the 800K to go to the person nominated.
