  1. Are you brain dead? I already said I have bought her a nice house and car, plus happy to provide for her future in a will, so what are you on about?
  2. I only have my savings to cover medical expenses, at 80 I'm not likely to get insurance, so my situation is totally different.
  3. I have wills in both countries as well, but that wasn't my question.
  4. That's easy to say, but not so easy to do. For one thing, I have to have money in reserve for medical emergencies, plus, at 80, you find your tastes aren't that expensive.
  5. She's not a greedy person or in the least bit materialistic, and really has no idea, or at all curious as to how much I might leave her, but I just hope that money would not cause any falling out between her and her family. I just want to leave her enough so she has enough to live comfortably, and that's it.
  6. Even charities are suspect nowadays, most of the money disappears in "administration" costs.
  7. She's 57, so she could live another 30 years. She's a pretty frugal kind of person, so blowing it is unlikely.
  8. At present most of the funds are still in Australia, and as I have no intention of ever returning it might be difficult to set up a trust from there.
  9. I guess I really have no control over what she does with the money, all I know is that it can cause all kinds of conflict and jealousy within families.
  10. Sounds like a good idea, but not sure how easy that would be to set up in Thailand, and how trustworthy lawyers, or whoever administers the fund would be.
  11. At present I am leaving the bulk of my savings to my Thai partner of 13 years, but am now wondering if this is a wise decision. The savings will probably total around 7 million baht, and considering she already has a nice house and car, paid for by me, I'm thinking that her inheriting that kind of money might cause her family problems (greed) she never had before. That leaves me with the problem of who else, or what charity I could leave the money to instead. Before you ask, no one here is eligible.
  12. Thanks. That explains it very clearly.
  13. Has anyone asked Centrelink to change from paying into an Australian bank account to one in Thailand? I have had my pension paid into an Aussie account for the 13 years I've been in Thailand, but as I have no intentions of ever returning, wondering if it makes more sense to have it paid directly into my SCB bank. Is it as simple as just contacting C'link and asking them to change it?
  14. Why is it that the blow-ins are the mouthiest?
  15. Thanks, I'll bookmark it.
  16. You wouldn't believe it, it just arrived.
  17. I have done it online twice before and got confirmation almost immediately, followed by the actual notification an hour or so later. This time my request is still pending after 24 hours, not sure if I should cancel and do it again or just wait.
  18. Just read about a movie called Prime Cut with Gene Hackman and Lee Marvin. Never seen it so be interested to see how it stands up after 50 years.
  19. To who? Personally, I couldn't care less, and I'm not sure the general population does either. Do we need to see an actors private life somehow interwoven into a movie?
  20. They put a road at the rear of my village where jungle existed before. During the making of the road compactors were used as well as other heavy machinery, so every house (including mine) suffered some kind of subsistence damage, like cracking to walls and foundations. The local council who were responsible offered (no negotiation) 1000 baht per household to repair the damage. Suing the council would have proved expensive and fruitless.
  21. Not at all. I wouldn't look twice at a hill or some other common natural formations, but those rock formations are unusual. Like these. 45385907.cms.webp
