I can live without rooting the phone if I can deny all Permissions to all Apps. 3 months ago I made the mistake of buying a new Samsung. The phones I have used for years allow me to deny all Permissions to every App if I wish to. I never considered that this will be any different with other manufacturers, but I now find that Samsung forces Permissions to many apps. Currently the "Permission Manager" shows that I am forced to give access to "Phone" to 10 apps, Storage to 3 apps, Contacts to 2 apps and Call Logs, Camera, and Location to 1 app each. This is 24/7 forever, no options for the owner. Samsung's answer to Google Assistant is Bixby. Bixby Routines gets perpetual permission for 5 of those, and Bixby Voice gets access to 6. 24/7/365 compulsory Data Mining by Samsung. But actually Samsung has access to more than this, as there are many pre-installed apps which are not listed by the Permission Manager for some reason, and some of these also have irrevocable Permissions. I cannot accept this situation. So I need to find an Android manufacturer who allows Permissions to be denied for all apps. Can anyone help me with this question. I am afraid that the Demo models in phone stores won't allow Permissions to be denied, even if it allows that when not in Demo mode. Or that the staff who hang over one while handling phones will not permit it. Do any of you have phones that allow all Permissions to be denied? (If you don't mind experimenting, you can always turn the Permissions you use back on. Data is never lost by doing this - you are not deleting. Your phone will work as previously once you allow Permissions again). Thanks for any relevant info. (Do not want an iPhone).

So many people must be disturbed by it, and seemingly no one doing anything. A big problem in Vietnam also.

Disgusting. Truly backwards law that is used to silence people. Blocking 2 spaces, then 6 months later taking a handicapped man to court.

Chiang Mai Air Quality and Pollution
JimmyJ replied to Cheesekraft's topic in Air Pollution in Thailand
Right now outside I'm seeing 37 to 39 = AQI 105 to 110. Perhaps improved a bit since 4 hours ago when you posted. But yesterday and today definitely disappointing - the air had been good recently. -

For many, Thailand’s UN vote on Russia still a puzzle
JimmyJ replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The clear implication of your post is that UN Observers/Committee "Investigations" are Proof because they are unbiased neutral factfinders never swayed by economic/political considerations. 1 current example - Pramila Patten - UN Special Rep - says Russian troops were given Viagra & are using rape as military strategy. Her office was created via Security Council Resolution introduced by USA war hawk Hillary Clinton. Washington used this tactic against Libyan troops during NATO’s intervention in 2011. ("Gaddafi 'supplies troops with Viagra...' "). They are not even bothering to make up new propaganda - they count on short memories, censorship, and a propagandized unquestioning public. -

The 1st worthwhile post by the ghost "nigelforbes", and it's an excellent one. This is on the internet for eternity. "Whatever were they thinking?" Clearly not thinking. Why be self destructive?

MOD - The OP is asking for the thread to be closed... Discussion of Illegal Activities...
-
Guys - A lot of you like using agents. Discussions like this are pointless, and this is a public forum. Threads like this could someday have a negative effect on the status quo. What is the point of these endless discussions with 2 or 3 people? I don't understand why you let yourselves be sucked in. The OP started this thread not to seek help but to foment arguments. Really time to end this thread.
-
The OP's post seems written to start the old "Agent or not?" argument. 'I'm thinking of using an agent - anything I'm missing?' Could you please be a little more vague? How would anyone know if you're missing something? There have only been dozens of posts about this, many very recent. Read the threads, call the agent if you have questions. Ask on the forum if there's a specific issue you can't understand. Then a 3 week member clutches his pearls for 4 pages, repeating the same nonsense over and over. The OP and the pearl clutcher got their weekend jollies.

NOTE - The item at $17.99 list price plus 18.55 S&H was less than 1500 THB so there should NOT have been any charges for Import. Just double checked - Amazon showing it at 23.99 list price, currently reduced to 18.99. So 23.99 + 18.55 S&H = 42.54. Taking it over 1500 TBH. Based on that - I paid 34.51% Import/VAT. Not at all as high as I was calculating. Forgot that I got it at a discounted price per Amazon.
-
Me - "If the items plus shipping are over 1500 THB, Amazon adds an "Import Fee Deposit" which I find in most cases is over 50% of the value of the items. I have no idea how they are coming up with such insanely high possible Duty fees. I realize they refund uncollected Deposit fees, but it is scary if there is a potential for them to actually collect that high a percentage of cost. Does anyone have a link for the current Import % schedule for Thailand.? I imagine that most fees wouldn't be over 10%. More than 50% - and for non-electronics items - seems crazy, and I suspect it is Amazon for some reason (mis)calculating these high percentages and not the actual Thai Customs fees." Amazon is (in most cases) no longer collecting Import Fee Deposits. But I did recently have them collected on 1 item - a Bathroom Scale. (They no longer collect the Import Deposit for thus item). So - The scale listed at Amazon for 17.99 USD. The receipt says I had a $3.00 Coupon - I think this was an Amazon Prime member discount on this item. So I effectively paid $14.99 for the Scale. They collected an $18.06 Import Fee Deposit - More than their list price of the item itself. A few weeks after delivery, I got a refund of $3.31. So Thailand collected 81.60% VAT and Import Fee (based on the item's pre-discounted price) which makes no sense and cannot really be that high. I've ordered a number of items recently from eBay, Amazon, and iHerb. I made each order under 1500 THB for the cost of the item(s) plus shipping. Did not get charged any Import Fees/VAT by Thai Customs. I could have saved a lot of postage fees by combining more items per shipment, and saved more on one off discounts likewise by putting more items on the order. But seeing this insane Import/VAT fee percentage, I'm happy with the way I did it.
