  1. I don't eat raw fish except for salmon they taste nice raw. They have many great sushi menu that don't have raw fish in it.

I never understood why raw fish cost so much...lol

    Neither can I.

It's highly unlikely anyone will ever suffer from a sushi-related illness, but if they do they won't forget it.

  2. I've never seen a king cobra in the wild in my life ever. I wouldn't mind observing them everyday in a safe distant. Only problems if you have dogs, particularly pit bulls that will attack the poor snake.

  3. Where is the current location of Gypsie's grill. I did a seach in google indicated near The Lost bookshop?

I like the burger at Gypsie's grill, not as big as what he served at the Rose GH but very good.

since the curry war has been won on a technicality, the Fish and chip fued has died down, the sushi snobbery has subsided, it is time to bust out the burgers. I think we are due for burrito banter next followed by pizza punditry.

  4. Still want to know where are the best Burgers in Chiang Mai but too afraid to ask.

Someone mention this list. Top 5 inclues:

    1. UN Irish pub,

    2. Miguels Nong Hoi

    3 Wooddy's

    4. Duke's

    5 Gecko garden

I'm going to do a serious food tour one day and try them one by one. If you have anything to add please help. Thanks

  5. The one you were saying available 2 months a year, still available? Where can I get some please thanks.

Rist8to really good and know how to make a cup, a bit confusing for the 1st timer but they'll help. I recently bought for home use Hom Glai grown in Mai Sai, Chiang Rai called Doi Pahee from Hillkpoff (I went to the new store next to the Mercedes dealer this time, had lots of these single origin coffees on nice displays with info etc. that are avail. only 2 mnth a yr. or something like that, but limited, don't know if they carry them in the old store but if I so recommend going there for service (a pizza was delivered and the whole staff disappeared and I had to grind and bag my own beans). Anyway back to the important stuff these have their "City" roast which I find is medium which I prefer (don't get confused if you inquire and they say it's mocha because what it is is the roast they recommend to make mocha with (if I haven't confused you)). Back to my a.m. cup (or pot) of coffee

  6. Unprovoked random attack may be just to prove that they are bad

what did they want - wallet or car or both ?

how would these kind of people react if you handed over your wallet.

Better than sustaining serious injuries if that what they were after

    or is this wrong ?

  7. I have to totally agree with "junglechef" about this Tomi Sushi joint. A little diner in very quiet small strip mall on San Kham Pang road but looks can be very deceiving. This place don't look like much but the sushi is probably the best in town. Prices are extremely reasonable. I've been to many cheap sushi places in Chiang Mai but I didn't expect this place to be so surprisingly good.

  8. I don't mind the San Ti Tum area, in fact I had a good time at Aka coffee in the area yesterday. Plenty of pretty girls in the area the only thing that spoil my moment was the mother in law sitting across from me.

How many families do you see there or friendly people out for a stroll. It is the red light district plain and simple and most Thai people (like myself and my wife) will not go to an area like that. We want it shut down with the prostitutes, drugs and crime but tourists and expats keep it running.

If you naively think it's only foreigners who keep it running and all Thais are as pure as driven snow you've obviously never been to Santitham!

+1 and Santitham was once gloriously bathed in seediness........a real inexpensive adventure for a farang many years ago.

My first 'residence' in Chiang Mai was in Santitham and I loved every minute of it......for three years. Took me a while to get used to all the Thai girls coming home at 4am, but it was a great experience.w00t.gif

  9. Mos illegal stuff in Thailand you can get them anywhere EASY! , prostitutes, sex toy, weeds, porn CDs. BB guns, DVDs.

I found Taser gun the Thai web for 3900 bath!

  10. A few frozen rabbits in Rimping supermarket.

A big fan of Bake and Bite with friendly staff and I chat a lot with owners about rabbits however, the last time I had a lamb dish it was like they reheated the lamb in a microwave and it came out wasn't like I expected for a comfort dish.

    Mmmm Rabbit ... yum!

I notice someone has started a rabbit sanctuary in Chiang Mai...

Could be an opening in the market there.

My elderly neighbours in France often gave me a portion of rabbit with mushrooms on a Sunday morning...

  11. Well I like the owner and the staff so I would come back but not for the lamb.

so on that occasion you were fleeced?

  13. News just today 18 June 12 that Chiang Mai police arrested several Thai-Burmese juveniles gang in connection with several

savage attack after at least a few people were reportedly stabbed in random, unprovoked attack.

  14. Butcher at Nim City help me fillet the fish as I ask, make my life much easier. They even pull out membrane from baby back ribs for me if I ask them to. If you want special cut ask them and pick it up next day. I live in Nimman near Northern farm but I wont go there.

Must chk. out the Rimping Nim City branch, went to Rimping/Rumchook last week for pork shoulder to make pulled pork and they didn't stock that or many different cuts but Northern Farms did and cut mine to order. (hint: I've never met a Thai who didn't like a nice spicy pulled pork!)

  15. Just a note that to do a gabian wall we also need finding a machine to dig a trench for the Gabians, install geotextile filter fabric ,purchase the rock, arrange the rock, and so on. I'm building a Gabian wall my self near Ping river I think it will be too much for a canal wall where river flow slowly.

  16. Agree about Pon Yang Kham, ignore the sale girls and the waiters. I always purchase beef here like crazy and they treat me like I'm no body. However the butcher guy is very polite but he is not always there. I know a few popular restaurants get their flank steak for their tacos here.

I find the beef at Pon Yang Kham to be the best. The sell a wide variety of cuts in a temp. controlled room. The butcher is adequate but the sales girl not so. Northern farms has good pork and acceptable beef but it is unsanitary. Makro is good for chicken and pork but not for beef (and depending on which one for fish). I avoid the Big C and Tesco. Rimping also is worth a look.
