  1. I have been riding bikes outside of thailand for about 30 years, mostly superbikes (more than 150hp). I recently discovered the Stallions brand bike (Thai manufactured). They are normal shifting, real bikes that let me scoot through traffic like a scooter, but they ride like actual bikes (scooters took me some time to get used to the semi auto shifters and the strange rake of the front forks. They are not expensive (around 65k baht) and just a pile of fun to ride. I had mine fixed up so the total cost has more like 180k baht. Below is a pic of my brothers (stock) and mine.

I can't say enough about how fun and relativelyt safe they are. They come stock with about 14.5hp. If you are looking for an alternative so some fat clunky automatic scooter you should really look at one of these:

You could have bought a Yamaha R3 for that price. That's an awful lot of turd polishing you've done there.
  2. Lost $400 US the first time and $1100 US this time. Going old school now and will only use 1 single card... Kasikorn Bank, the only local bank (as far as I know) that allows you to reduce the withdrawal/transfer/purchase limits to zero by phone. Whenever I use it, I put the limit I want in.... and then right after I use it, I put the limit back to zero. All other bank accounts are now old school passbook only. Bye bye (cancelled) all other local atm cards. As for my foreign accounts, I have those cards in my safe and am sticking to online banking only now.

How does this work? I have a Kasikorn account and would be interested to know the details.

  3. If your humour relies on obscure references to a thirty year old British satirical TV show then you can hardly be surprised that absolutely no one else will have a scooby as to what you're talking about (did you see what I did there BTW?)

  4. Thanks & good idea. Very annoying, I've got at least 4 bales of the things back in the UK

dust sheets ??oh mi mee no need in thailand i found it easier and cheaper to go to the local market and purchase the largest bed sheets you can you can find

  5. Jeez, who has seen this many replies ever.

Anyway,it's pretty obvious that you're gay. No problem with that except most of the elderly guys here are heterosexual and were lucky enough to meet hi-so Thais in their work related or cultural activities. Their wives are deffo not bargirls, no way (despite the tats)

    Anyway, good luck.

  6. My condo is now five years old and needs of bit of sprucing up and I am after some recommendations for a few bits and pieces;

I have the usual vinyl chaise lounge which is a bit battered now, I believe it came with the original furniture pack and have no doubt it's a cheapy. I am not sure whether to buy a new one or get this one recovered. Anyone got any experience in having this done? Any suggestions re price & availability of different coverings would be useful.

The condo has a room divider separating the bedroom from the lounge and there is a large 2.5M window, so I was thinking of a roman blind or possibly a vertical blind - again any recs re decent suppliers.

Finally, I have large, heavy blackout curtains on the patio doors to the balcony, approximately 3.5M wide. There's nothing wrong with the curtains except they're red which isn't going to work with any colour scheme I have in mind. My idea is to take a complete curtain to a shop to have a new set made up in the exact same dimensions, using the exact same sliding mechanism. If anyone knows any good curtain shops that they have used I would be really grateful.

    TIA

  7. Am I right in thinking that we never hear how long the sentences are that these scum get or is it just me not seeing it anywhere. For all we know they just get deported. A press release saying they get 10 years would at least put off some of the thieving scum.

There was an Aussie bloke featured on the Australian embassy series a week ago who was trying to get a new passport whilst out on bail for a similar offense, claiming the case was closed and that he'd now lost his passport. I believe the police found about 240 cards at his residence, anyway he was sentenced to 50 years.
  8. Kodi is an excellent bit of software, however it's useability in Thailand seems to be somewhat restricted by international internet speeds for streaming video content. This is especially true on weekends in my experience.

For people into torrenting, it is ideal for indexing and cataloging your TV and movie collection.

As it is completely free, don't expect it to be trouble free and 100% reliable.

Some people swear by it, others swear at it.

  9. I've had this bike for a week now, but haven't used it too much due to unexpected illness, so far I have done about 160Kms, so this is first impressions at best.

    ...

The clutch is extremely light, so sore wrists are definitely not going to be a problem with this bike. it pulls away from low revs without fuss and the power is smooth and predictable, if not exciting, up to about 7000RPM. After this, the engine note changes significantly and turns into a bit of a bark as it rises to the redline @ 10,000RPM. This is where most of the power seems to be and where the most fun is to be had, but for normal tootling around town the power below 7000RPM is perfectly adequate and far more civilised.

Please let us know how the engine sounds when you get to 1000km. With that kind of severe run-in treatment, I suspect your engine will eventually sound somewhat like mine did.

I think the specification is amazing considering the price.

I would tend to agree, but I think Yamaha has achieved this by uncharacteristically cutting serious corners with quality control and production.

1600KM now. No issues with the bike at all.

I would recommend this bike to anyone who wants a little more fun than the average scoot provides.

Perhaps my Exciter turned out to be a unique lemon, but I've noticed enough low-quality items on this bike (such as the cheap indicator switch) to warrant caution.

The only thing I've noticed is the clonky front suspension. Doesn't deal with Thai roads all that well sometimes. Will mention when it goes in for its next service.
