  1. I like the fact that this guy attracts complete strangers who really want to go the extra mile for him, yet he appears not to have a single friend or relative from his own country who might be prepared to help out. I can only put this down to the fact that, superficially he might seem harmless, but all those who know him have recognised his psychopathic tendencies, touched on briefly visa the lunacy of lobbing stones at a taxi, and wouldn't touch him with a bargepole.

One the other hand, it might just be that he can't seem to get over the insurmountable problem of his phone having a flat battery, leaving him completely and utterly helpless.

  2. One of the weak points of these android boxes is the wifi connection. If you have a marginal (<8mbps) connection, it would pay you to have a direct ethernet connection to your router. Also, the remote only lasts at the most 2 days before needing a recharge unless you turn it off, which I'm pretty sure no one does.

  3. I ran out of my ramipril about a week ago and haven't sourced a replacement yet. I've been checking my BP a couple of times a day since then using a machine that my UK doctor checked against his and am getting an average of 100/70, so I'm going to give them a miss for a while but continue to take the statins as there seems to be no down dude to taking them.

  4. Pardon my ignorance but what is an Android streaming box and do we need a subscription like I have with Truevision to be able to watch TV or we only need an internet access?

Welcome to the workd of free tv, movies and radio. 8 months ago I asked a similar question and since then I have bought a preprogrammed android box, then I bought a minix x8-8 and programmed it my self and finally I build and Intel windows based home theatre PC.

An android box like the minix x8-8 costs between 4-5,000 baht. It comes already loaded with a program called xbmc ( now Kodi). You connect the box to the Internet and plug the box into to your tv with a hdmi cable and you now have over 2 million hours of tv and movies at your finger tips with new tv shows being added every day. You also have live sports but you need to do a little set up first.

Pretty much you have every season and every episode of your favorite tv shows. New episodes of current tv shows are added hours after they run in the states or uk. You have them before Truevisions have them. Movies currently in the box office take a little longer to appear but any movie older then 6 months is there on demand.

Xbmc can be a little fiddlly and when you first get your box you will need to download what they call a repository from a site called tvaddons.ag. The download is called fusion and it includes a setup wizard for your xbmc. They have u tube videos and instructions to walk you through every step of the process. In addition they have a forum which you can read.

Finally you can ask questions here as a lot of tv members use xbmc and there is even a thai visa member that has developed live tv addons for xbmc that you are included when you download the fusion repisitory.

I'm another newbie. I understand that XBMC is a media player software program that runs on an android box connected to the internet. My question is, where exactly does the content come from? AJBangkok's statement "Welcome to the world of free tv, movies, and radio" sounds too good to be true, unless legalities are being swept under the rug. How are copyright issues handled when the description above states that shows and movies are almost immediately available? Could someone address the legality of this "free" scheme?

It's not legal, it violates every copyright law known to man, but that's the internet for you.

If your moral compass can tolerate that, then XBMC is possibly the best streaming system available.

Personally I have no problems with that [emoji2]

  5. I was using a myGica ATV1200 dual core Android TV box and had quite a few problems watching football, lots of audio delay and sometimes stuttering video although watching news was fine. Last week I bought a Minix X8-H quadcore box and all the football I watched over the weekend streamed flawlessly. They also told me that they had tested the service with similar hardware, there are lots of boxes using the same SoC (Amlogic S802-h).

If you do by the same box you would be best to upgrade to the latest beta firmware.

I got mine from here. Shipped the day after I paid, arrived the day after that.

That's a pretty good price. I paid more than that in the UK for the same set-up.

For anyone thinking of getting a Minix - they're excellent.

  6. Are you sure you can get the £10,000 allowance? I think it doesn't count for pension withdrawals like this because when you invested the money it was most likely invested gross. So if you withdraw it, then the whole lot is taxable, apart from the 25%. I might be wrong, but that's the way I understand it.

Anything above the 25% is taxed at your marginal rate, if the remainder is less than £10K (from April 2015) and this is your only income then it will all be tax free.

  7. I am arranging to do the same thing but with a larger amount.

I you want to spread the cashing in over two years to benefit from your tax free allowance and thus pay no tax on the 20,000 GBP, you will probably have to transfer your pension plan to another type of fund that allows drawdown. I checked with my pension plan administrator and there is no way to drawdown from my existing plan, i.e. it has to be transferred in total or cashed in (25 pc tax free, the remainder taxed as income). Starting rom 2015 of course.

So then you have to decide if the fees and trouble of transferring your fund is worth it to you. Maybe better to bite the bullet and pay tax which in your case will not be too much.

This is incorrect, since a government announcement earlier this month.

Details still to be announced but you should be able to withdraw whatever you want, whenever you want. The second big game changer for UK private pension holders.

  8. Ok cool. I thought I saw big jars in Makro Hua hin once as well. Might make a trip to the seaside to check.

i will be checking makro in korat, got to have some for xmas, cold ham, chicken, pork and cheese.

but i have visitors in march, branston in the squeezy fingy on my list.

Nooooo! don't do it. Branston in a squeezy fingy is a sacrilege and an abomination.

You need friends in low places, the sort that shop at ASDA, and are coming over soon. They occasionally do 760g jars for a quid!

  9. This site provides a complete customised XBMC system and takes all of the hard work out of it. Remember to backup your system first.

You'll get 500+ live TV channels, most of which work. Genesis, FTV etc

You'll still need to install the excellent MX repository if you want MX-World News, MX-Thai and MX-BBC.

  10. Now you know where it is, it's important to know what it is.

According to a poster from another forum, it's a training academy for bar girls, who, when they graduate are allowed to work on the bright side.

    So, now you know [emoji4]
