  1. Nobody?

Well I will be getting a New laptop in the next few weeks and want to run Ubuntu exclusively- however I am locked into the CAT CDMA as there is no other (reliable) internet where I live -

meaning I will pay someone who thinks they could hack and install the CDMA to work with Ubuntu.

I can meet in Chaing mai and it will be sometime in August.

    any takers?

  2. Now this gentleman; Khun Tej - being appointed is actually NOT a Thaksin appointease and will work for the good of the Kingdom of Thailand?

Is that correct? Or at least the right direction?

Let's just say that the Bunnag family and the Chakri dynasty have worked co-operatively for many generations.

In addition some of the current young generati0n of Bunnag lasses are mighty attractive as well....

    pictures please...

  3. I am ignorant of the details of Thai Politics - but as I understand it - Nopadon and the ENTIRE cabinet were/are Thaksin Appoitease working for the good of Khun Thaksin?

    correct?

Now this gentleman; Khun Tej - being appointed is actually NOT a Thaksin appointease and will work for the good of the Kingdom of Thailand?

  4. KLIA has the Concorde Airport Hotel.

It is not near the LCC but you have a bus that will take you over to the main terminal where you can take the free hotel shuttle, or if you have a little coin take a taxi directly there, will save you about 45 minutes.

Concorde also has a hotel in KL so when booking be sure you have the airport hotel. Also, it's nothing to write home about, kinda a dingy place, but for one night, what the hel_l, right?

Thanks. I saw that one online, but it's $75/night, and I was really hoping to find something for under $50. Any other ideas?

well if you do anything expect take a bus out of the LCC you are going to drop miniumn $20 taxi out and another $20 in - so just keep that in mind

LCC and KLIA for that matter is in the middle of frickin nowhere.

  5. you cant forum search for 'Pai' because either the admins of Thai Visa dont have root access to to their SQL Database and cant change - or they have turned off short word searches because it takes up inordinate amounts of processing power.

but right now I am sitting on my porch in pai - it rained earlier and now it is sunny there is a remnants of a rainbow - It is quiet lately - a steady low flow of visitors - some rainy nights - not too crowded - great for a visit as always. this is a good time of year to visit because it is like the old days without the bangkok mobs.

tell me what your budget/requirements are and can recommend a good place to stay.

  6. also if you are looking at the web page go ahead and

    "View Source"

and scroll through the source code of the page- you will probably find buried at the bottom lots of little links that you dont want in there. But when you look at the actual file on the server is it just a bunch of encrypted code. ie DSAFSHGRTCXCNXCJENSDFHDSFHSDFNSDFNSDFNSDFCNKSCNSDCMDSCKMXLSD

The first thing I would do is report the pages to Google Adsense. Might as well get their account banned and earnings revoked.

    :o

You should also get help from a Pro as there are more tricks they may have pulled.

  7. The infant price quoted is %10 of the Full Fare ticket Plus all Taxes and surchages. This also means Plus tax on the full fare.

on our last trip BKK-LAX (dec) it cost us 36k for each adult and 20k for the infant :o

we realized after that it would have been cheaper to just buy a child seat ticket.

flying domestically infants go free on Nok.

  8. Solider - These are your orders.

    1. Get out of Bangkok (and Pattaya for that matter) - Chaing Mai is a nice place or if you like the Ocean then go exploring.

    2. Learn to speak Thai - until you can shout at a woman in her own language she will never respect you. Also keep in mind that if a woman speaks english she had to learn it somewhere and certainly not in school. Wouldn't you rather be her first?

    3. You will NEVER make any money operating a business within Thailand for Thais/tourists (consider that a hobby if you will). Successful business's by expats usually involve using Thailand as an base of operations for regional/virtual or export.

    4. Asian don't have the same concept of truth/lies as westerners. But dont let this offend you either. Just be aware that you can never believe anything that comes out of anybodies mouth in any circumstances.

    5. Money talks.

  9. I saw the officer in question walking around an evening food festival in Pai a few weeks ago in plain clothes - talking to all the villagers like nothing was amiss. I dont know if he is actually still on duty or not, though SabaiJai may know better as he seems to have other sources of information.

Though this seems to be playing out in typical local fashion instead of admitting or denying his guilt, they will just draw the process out for as long as they can until everybody forgets. Kinda like when you reach a thai call center and the operator doesnt know the answer to your question (or you wont like the answer) - instead of just telling you that, they put you on hold until you hang up and go away. This is exactly the same.

Interesting idea though - there will be a new foreign minister appointed in the next week - if propositioned correctly, he may find it in his advantage to push this case through just for the sake of flexing his own muscles and building big face.

But the overall point being that most likely nothing will ever happen with the Thai justice system. Interesting thing about this culture is that the loser/dead tends to always be viewed in the wrong as they vow towards the mystery of "Karma" meaning that if a person really deserves punishment - that "Karma" will come and take care of that in terms of getting hit by a bus or falling of his motorbike or something else..... then after this bad "Karma" happens - all the villagers can stand around and eat raw pork and play cards while they talk about all the bad things that this person did in order to bring that fate upon themselves

  10. Well if they are growing again it is being done on the quiet.

most hill tribe people over the age of 25 will tell you that they spent their youth in a poppy field and it was just normal village life.

now that there are no more poppy fields, most spend their youth in another way........ :o

but the point being that even if it is around- it is not even the slightest fraction of what it used to be.

  11. whatever... he traded a temple for a casino.

this nopeadope is not an idiot like those around him- he is actually very intelligent man with rational reasoning abilities - therefore he is able to clearly understand both sides and make logical decisions. because of having both left and right brain activity he also understand exactly what he did as a choice of his own free will and therefore will burn for it in the seven lower hells, being aware of the process the whole time.

*digicam footage of that'd make a great selling, "Noppadope Rots In hel_l For Eternity", DVD*...

...sarm gao gao baht, buy 2 get 1 free

Maybe we could get a Nong Natt special thrown in for free.

But really I love when they take the special VCDs and then dub Thai music and Karkoke over them. Maybe we could do Noppeadope roasting in the seven lower hells to Lydia singing about her lover who never calls.

  12. They have the monopoly on noise pollution on the corner of Chaiyaphum and soi one..

I have been here 7 years and dont know what that means (who looks at street signs)

but for the sake of answering the OP question

If you are facing Spicy and then walk left about 30 meters it is the bar on the same side of the street with lots of funny colors.

  13. I was looking at the Dell website the other day and they offer a machine with Ubuntu pre-installed and configured for everything.

any chance I can get that in LOS and save the Vista tax?

or maybe to ask my question another way..

I am going to get a new computer soon and rally have Zero interest in getting anything windows. I am just going to go straight to Ubuntu

So what laptop should I buy based on that? I am in CM but come to BKK often enough.

  14. firstly I want to say that I have had great personal experience at CM Ram

had a son born there no hitches - very pleased

and also a few months ago was pleasantly surprised upon visiting the ENT for an ear sucking that he did not prescribe anti-bodics-

so I have had great experiences

on the other hand there was a very nice older gentleman that some of us knew (now passed on) that swore on his deathbed that the place in question killed him. Something about a botched and unnecessary surgery and infection.

We also knew another (now passed on too) that claimed a similar thing. whatever the truth is I dont know, but that is what was said.

but really its probably like the guy who fixes your motorbike, If you stand over him and watch closely, he will do a great job - but if you just dump your bike on him and come back later in the afternoon- then he will probably be drinking red bull and forgot all about your bike

  15. I get the jokers from AMEX THAI calling me every few months and its always the same conversation

"Hello sir - you must have alot of money because we bought a lead list that says you have accurred a billizzon miles on TG in the last year - so we want to give you a THAI AMEX credit card"

    then I say ....

"Thats great I will take it - though I dont have a work permit because I only domicile in thailand and my offices are in a nearby country - hence all the miles - so I dont have a work permit because I dont work here"

that really confuses them - then still hungry for their commission they go and try to find a manager to see if they can make an exception and I usually hang up the phone and they never call back. ( you ever notice when they cant deal with situations they just put you on hold indefinitely)

In fact I really wish they would give me a card as I would rack the hel_l out of it - but unfortunately the hand does not know what the foot is doing.

  16. The Constitutional court ruled treaties are defined by the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties 1969, which states: "treaty" means an international agreement concluded between States in written form and governed by international law, whether embodied in a single instrument or in two or more related instruments andwhatever its particular designation; Fair enough but you need to put it in context.

My understanding of this definition is that any agreement which Thailand makes with another country, regardless of what it is about, e.g Territorial, Jusidictional, Economic, Commercial etc is regarded as a treaty, and as such will have to in future go before Parliament and if voted in favour of, presented to the King for signature.

I disagree with your interpretation and apply the criteria as set out in the definition.

In order to speak of a "treaty" in the generic sense, an instrument has to meet various criteria. First of all, it has to be a binding instrument, which means that the contracting parties intended to create legal rights and duties. Secondly, the instrument must be concluded by states or international organizations with treaty-making power. Thirdly, it has to be governed by international law. Finally the engagement has to be in writing. Even before the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, the word "treaty" in its generic sense had been generally reserved for engagements concluded in written form. Treaty as a specific term: There are no consistent rules when state practice employs the terms "treaty" as a title for an international instrument. Usually the term "treaty" is reserved for matters of some gravity that require more solemn agreements. Their signatures are usually sealed and they normally require ratification. Typical examples of international instruments designated as "treaties" are Peace Treaties, Border Treaties, Delimitation Treaties, Extradition Treaties and Treaties of Friendship, Commerce and Cooperation. The use of the term "treaty" for international instruments has considerably declined in the last decades in favor of other terms.

    Source UN Treaty Collections definitions.

    I disagree with your interpretation;

    1. It was an agreement of support of a request to UNESCO. Important yes, but hardly a grave issue of solemn concerm.

    2. Was the support binding where the contracting parties intended to create legal rights and duties? I don't think in anyone's wildest dreams it could be interpreted as such.

    3. The instrument was not concluded by states or international organizations with treaty-making power. There was no formal signing and exchange of agreements. In essence, it was merely an acknowledgement of an undertaking.

    4. The agreement did touch upon international law, but I do not believe that such agreements are governed by International Treaty Law. Even as a basic contract, it fails the test. In order to have a contract there must "consideration". I see no mention of a consideration.

    5. I would hardly describe this timid position as an engagement.

No argument from me on your other points.

I fully accept that I could be wrong on my interpretation as did not study International Law and have never pleaded a case. However, as a member of the unwashed masses, that's my take on it.

the point being that they will pick off every body around Dr. Thaksin until those remaining start to get the point that the 'boss' cannot protect them and they will go down too. then Dr. Thaksin closet will turn on him at the moment of truth in order to save their own skins in traditional fashion.
