  1. interesting - how about using singapore as alternative banking centre?

    any specific drawbacks with that???

I seem to remember reading an article recently that singapore was going to start requiring reporting of entry or exit of certain amounts of $$$

however in HK, can bring in and out freely.

    can somebody confirm or correct?

also - to confirm Indo-Siam - This is something my lawyer sent me a while back - It talks about the difference between operating a HK company vs. a BVI company with correspondence in HK.

    "

There is usually some misunderstanding about HK companies. HK has no offshore (i.e. IBC) companies, but only limited companies. A BVI company will not be subject to HK taxes if the operations are not carried out in HK and the shareholders/directors are not HK resident and no proof is required in that case.

Since you are much concerned over the HK taxes matter, we are pleased to advise you more information in this regard. A HK company's profits will not be subject to HK taxes subject to the approval of the HK Inland Revenue Department provided that it can PROVE by filing an annual audited accounts and evidence that it has no operations in HK, i.e.

Basically a HK company is not subject to HK taxes if its operations are not carried out in HK, i.e.

    1. it has no real office in HK and only uses our office as a registered office

    2. it has a overseas office (can be a director's home) in which the company's directors and staff are working

    3. it has no staff in HK, its staff and directors rarely come to HK, e.g. about 2 weeks per annum (passport copies need to be retained)

    4. it negotiates and concludes contracts with suppliers and customers outside HK (evidence of faxes, emails, telephone bills and memos of meetings need to support this)

    5. it has no HK suppliers and customers

    6. shipment does not go through HK and arrangement of shipment is not done in HK

    7. physical inspection of goods is not carried out in HK

If you want an offshore company, we would usually recommend British Virgin Islands (BVI) companies which can have correspondence address in HK. A BVI company owned and operated by a non HK resident is not subject to HK taxes.

The major benefits for a BVI company are that the shareholders and directors can be anonymous, and there is no need to prepare annual audited accounts nor submission of tax returns to HK Inland Revenue Department if it has no operations in HK. The major benefit of a HK company is that HK companies have a lot of trading operations and are not regarded by any tax authority for tax planning purpose. If a HK company has no operations in HK, it is still not subject to HK taxes subject to the approval of the HK Inland Revenue Department. If you want to use a HK company and to be anonymous, you need to use our full nominee directors and shareholders service and the costs will be higher than a BVI company. However if you need to operate L/C or carry on business in HK, a HK company will be the better choice.

  2. I am a bit of a backyard fortune teller myself and in the spirit of this thread, I did a little I Ching cast for the near future for the Thaksin empowered PPP party and Samak government.

For those familar with the I Ching the result was

Hexagram 59 with a 2nd changing line to transform into Hexagram 20

The brief interpratation of this is

    Hexagram 59

Dissolution. Take the one and transform into many. It is a time for scattering

    2nd changing line

Pious dissolution - In the process of scattering, one will take the 'moral high ground'

    transforming into Hexagram 20

    'The Tower'

The tower is a time to step back from the situation and to not be involved. It is a time to observe and contemplate, but not to act.

The short is that the current government will fail and in doing do take the religious or 'moral high ground' and take the role of the victim. After this dissolution they must step back and watch for action will not be immediately possible.

    Its never wrong.

  3. only problem was their website was locally made and falang credit cards dont work

Not true...I have booked flights on CP to Manila online with my USA based credit card. No problems. Must be something specific to your card.

how recently? last time I tried was maybe in November

I tried 3 different cards and no dice

the guy who I ended up buying the ticket from said they had problems with USA cards and others.

    maybe they fixed it????

  4. Everything that was said above is more or less true.

not really an alternative to thailand - something different all-together. People that dont know the difference between taiwan and thailand generally like the Philippines. Keep in mind that there has been an Army base there for sometime, so their perception of falangs is equated with army boys on leave.

but if we want to talk about positives....

    1. good beer - san migul is one of the best

    2. they speak English - all of them - even the housekeeper or street sellers will speak better english than the prime minister of thailand.

    3. you can be friends with the men. - I mean they can be your buddies and brothers like another falang. There is a level of understanding.

but ohhh the food. its just horrendous. (except the buffet at the sofitel)

  5. I travel about the same and I use United, for the following reasons:

    1. Once you hit 25,000 miles in a calendar year, you become "Premier" which gives you access to Economy Plus (with about 3 more inches of legroom) and a 25% mileage bonus.

    2. Once you hit 50,000 miles, you get a 100% mileage bonus. So those 60,000 FF miles per year are now 120,000 miles. And you get business class lounge access on your international flights.

    3. Currently, a free ticket in 60,000 miles in coach, 90,000 in business. You only pay taxes on the free ticket, no fuel surcharges.

    4. FF award ticket redemptions are never easy on any airline, but with United you can also book Star Alliance airlines as well as United for your freebies.

you are probably right this is the best deal on paper-

but flying on a falang airline :o

  6. I have done this flight a few times - I think I paid around 4-5k Bhat for round trip fare total after taxes etc.....

the plane is nice, staff is friendly - the red-eye is good for those on tight schedules. (or budgets)

only problem was their website was locally made :o and falang credit cards dont work - which means that online booking is impossible and many travel agents wont issue Cebu tickets -

so it basically means that I had to call a number listed on their site and deposit money in some guys BB account and pick my ticket up at the airport. very weird

other than that - they are great and recommended for the price.

  7. Thai Airways give direct to LAX

16k Frequent Flyer miles per round trip

Need 80k to get a free ticket

you will end up spending approx $1500 per round trip

    You need to go further.

-1 what is the cost to redeem a "free ticket" ?

CDG/BKK with Thai... I remember 2 years ago... it was 200 euros.

    With Emirates, much less.

-2 Availability of seats for free ticket.

The big trap. The big game. If you need some fixed dates, forget it. Airlines will tell you : "quota finished" (Air France for instance). Or they will give your chosen date, but at peak rate (Emirates) or will give you different times, with very long transit (Emirates), etc.

    -3 other goodies

-With Thai Airways you have 654646 differents fares for economy class... They could tell you : "ah this ticket will get you only 50 % of the miles". So you save when you buy the ticket, but you loose on the miles. Emirates for instance don't do that : you get your miles whatever the class fare you use.

-more than miles, the upgrade factor linked to your frequent flyer status : silver, gold ? Each airlines has its own policy, and also its own issues with some routes (loading factor). Being gold, I got many free upgrades on Thai Airways... But never on Emirates.

My point : it's not enough to just look the obvious up front datas : how many miles do I get per round-trip, and how many miles do I need to redeem a ticket.

Eventually, it's just marketing... with airlines trying to maximise their gains... by distorting their promises.

I more or less agree with everything above, but practically his choices are limited. Going from BKK to West Coast, have to go direct or transit through a dragon - over Europe is impractical.

that narrows it down to direct with TG or transit with a cheaper Taiwanese airline - with either, you are still going to have to deal with the same crap restrictions.

forget the rest because they are same-same/different as TG and will have similar pricing and you just add an extra leg for nothing

btw.... In my experience China Airlines consistently has best quality of Cabin Birds in the world. go see for yourself.

  8. Thai Airways give direct to LAX

16k Frequent Flyer miles per round trip

Need 80k to get a free ticket

you will end up spending approx $1500 per round trip

TG is good because can also earn with other Star Alliance airlines (UA.ANA.SQ etc...)

but good luck redeeming - that can take some patience.

China Airlines does with a Stop in Taipei to Seatlle/SFO/LAX (actually nice to break it up) about the same miles

about $1000 per round trip - but you will need at least 100k miles to get a freebie

not sure about the others, but I also heard the EVA is good.

  9. i will vote for obama.

I have never voted before because it is usally a bunch of crap vs. crap but.......

Obama is best chance that that country has had in over 50 years

first he needs to get elected and then he needs to stay alive.

anybody who does not see this is confounded by their own complacentency and acceptance of partial misery because they have learned to live with it.

btw... thanks for the link - registering now.

  10. this just might be the stupidest thing they came up with yet.

    it probably started like this

pooyai: i have the best zip code in the world. 77777 my lucky lottery numbers, it gives my business high magic and gives me many young wives with white skin

noi: but sir, in our new building we have to change the zipcode

pooyai: that is unacceptable, I will not be without my lucky zipcode. if i have to change that zipcode, i will loose all my luck.

noi: but sir it is the law........

    :o

  11. the problem with TG is that they are feudalistic goverment run entity and their entire cabin staff is hired by 'favoritism'

meaning if some airforce general has a young sister with a gay son who if fuc_king off too much. they give him a job as a TG cabin attendant.

this is how the whole staff if made up, that is why they have the attitude of a bunch of stuck up rich people who couldnt get any other job and are being forced to stoop down to serve low-class falang.

  12. After over a year with this computer, I just figured out that it has pre-installed a Sierra Wireless EV-DO Card (bought in USA)

I haven't started to delve into it yet, but has anybody got a thinkpad configured with the CDMA network and SIM?

if so, was the process pretty simple, or did it require much cracking?

  13. it seems to connect, but no IP address is assigned. Can somebody famalir with this router give some input.

Check the ADSL mode (page 4-73 of the manual). If automatic doesn't work, choose G.DMT

Check the ADSL status page (page 4-74 of the manual). If possible, post a screendump here.

Good to have someone helping. It was already set to PPPoe, but I reaffirmed this,

    Model # is SMC7904WBRA2 EUA

I also went and changed to G.Dmt as you recommended

    still nothing....

attchd are two scrndmps after I made the changes you recommended/

Lets see what we can come up with

    post-13511-1206929845_thumb.png

    post-13511-1206929907_thumb.png

  14. For the last few years I was using a SMC 2+2 wireless router with TOT

    http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?event=viewPro...=4&pid=1588

however earlier this month when all the TOT internet crap started happening, it stopped working. After numerous calls to TOT, they finally came over and were unable to get the SMC to work, but were able to get their little TOT router to work, being short on time and needing to get back online, I paid up and on we went

but that still leaves me without wireless and I want to know why the TOT box works, but not my SMC

it seems to connect, but no IP address is assigned. Can somebody famalir with this router give some input.

  15. affiliate marketing is a black art

but really how to make money online. These are your rules and guild lines

    1) DONT BUY anybodies ebook. If you really want to know what it says, visit the pirates bay.

    2) read and study forums like digital point (for beginners) and their big brothers

    3) find your niche

    4) dont give away your secret nor your niche

    5) study alot, but spend time experimenting as well

    some practical advise.

Dont use Adsense unless you have a really good reason or international/random traffic (on TV I think it does ok)

    why?

Because Lots of the of the Ads on Adsense are brokered by middlemen promoting affiliate programs. that means that they take their cut and google takes their cut and you get left with the peanuts. Better to target and promote the affiliate programs directly.

Just last month I had one friend that was making a steady $200 a week from Adsense off a content site with decent traffic. I took it down for him and replaced it with almost the same type of promotions that the adsense was showing and viola! he jumped up to about $700 a week instantly. But that is the result of knowledge of the various affiliate programs and which ones to promote for the niche.

btw..Norrad - in your ebook, you forget aff links for godaddy and Miva (through CJ)

but you did a pretty good job plastering the whole thing with things that will make you money if people click on them

also when putting aff links in ebooks, always use redirect through your website, as it cloaks to gain reader confidence and allows you to change the redirect in the future if your programs change.

    lots to learn.
