Booze-Fueled Songkran Sparks Backlash from Non-Drinkers
phetphet replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I stocked up the fridge the day before, and stayed home with feet up and the aircon on. Punctuated by the occasional dip in the pool. Pure bliss. -
Some of the so called "Sky Bars" or rooftop bars are pretty cool. Such as the ones on top of Lebua State Tower and Centara Grand above CentralWorld.. But I suppose it depends on what you are looking for when you ask best bars. Have a look here for some other examples: https://www.therooftopguide.com/rooftop-bars-in-bangkok.html

Consequences of China's rare earth export halt
phetphet replied to bannork's topic in Political Soapbox
It's not just the supply of rare earth minerals. China is also the main processor for pretty much all rare earths. They are sent there from whichever countries they are mined, to be processed. They only have to tell other countries that if you intend to supply the US, we won't process for you. That will really gum up the works for a while. -
How stupid is China for retaliating to Trumps tariffs?
phetphet replied to hotsun's topic in Political Soapbox
China has played the long game, and quietly diversified its trading partners, import sources, and logistics channels through Belt & Road. One only has to look at the Chancay Deep Water Port on the Pacific Coast of Peru. With that, and the Mexican Intracoastal Railway, the Panama Canal is not so important. Let's see what happens if they start dumping US Treasuries again... it affects all of us, not just Americans. -
China Halts Critical Exports as Trade War Intensifies
phetphet replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
That likely means Trump will really start applying pressure on Ukraine to sign his one sided minerals and oil deal. -
British Fugitive Arrested in Phuket After Violent Brawl in Bangkok

There is no longer a British culture. It has been multi cultural for a long time now. -
Does living in Thailand drive you to drink?
phetphet replied to Don Giovanni's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
No. Quite the opposite. I no longer drink alcohol at all. I wasn't a daytime drinker, but I didn't want to end up spending all my days propping up a bar, so I decided to start exercising more. Drinking (dehydration and hangovers) don't really go together with training, so I found it very easy to stop. I wonder if susceptibility to alcoholism is in the genes of some people. -
U.S. Oil Exports Notched a New Record in 2024
phetphet replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
Look like Canada will be increasing its oil exports to other countries this year, so more competition. -
Poll -- Who will cave first in the momentous China-USA trade war?
phetphet replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
China has learned its lessons from Trump's first presidency. The Chinese have gradually weaned themselves off of US imports, and found alternative suppliers. They have built their own semi conductor industry, automated many factories to lower costs, and massively increased their gold holdings. No one know how much they hold officially, but they are one of the largest gold producers in the world, and they don't export it. They have even created their own BRICS payment system due to the US weaponisation of the Dollar. IMHO they are more immune to US actions than vice-versa. -
Pranksters been arrested farting
phetphet replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Some people need to grow up and learn some manners. I wonder if he has ever taken a clump playing his "jokes" on the wrong person. Unfortunately for Vitali, they don't have the THB500 and a wai get off in the Philippines, so it looks like he may end up doing some time, and he won't be popular with the local inmates. -
Trump Accused of 'Market Manipulation' in Tariff Reversal Shocker!
phetphet replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
And he still isn't happy that they are increasing defence spending as he has often demanded.. Now he is upset that after his threats that he might not defend some EU countries, they are planning to buy less US arms, and spend the increased funding with EU arms manufacturers. -
Tariff pause - Trump IS an idiot !!
phetphet replied to TorquayFan's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
Looks like the rumour about the 90 day pause in tariffs, was leaked a little bit too early on Monday. Still, all his cronies will have made big profits on their insider dealing now. What's the betting this 90 day pause will be permanent? -
what apps do you recommend for calling overseas from Thailand.
phetphet replied to stupidfarang's topic in IT and Computers
Not an app, but if you have a Thai phone number, you should be able to buy a discount package for cheap calls. I am on AIS and when I need to call the UK bannks, I buy one of their 003 packages. THB159 for 40mins to UK. Cheaper for some other countries. DTAC and others offer similar. To dial UK you just put 003 in front of the international code. So 00344(0) 123 456 7890 you drop the (0), becomes 00344 123 456 7890 https://www.ais.th/en/consumers/package/international/international-call/003 -
