  1. Much better for him to pull the strings in the background and let his daughter take the credit, but he just cannot help himself.
  2. It says British -Thai, so not totally foreign. Maybe he lives, or even grew up in Thailand. No excuse for driving like that. I 've never been to Pattaya, but I thought the Police there were clamping down on bad driving due to the number of accidents. His parents might be in for a large compensation bill.
  3. Hypothetically. What if Trump tries to do an Erdogan / Putin move? Make himself President for life? He is already mentioning a 3rd term. He has plenty of time to fill posts with his cronies. Unlike most other countries, almost every adult has firearms. This could make for a fiery outcome to say the least. He is already ignoring, or trying to get around the 14th Amendment for US born citizens. Why not the 22nd?
  4. It depends on what you are looking for. Not having a car, motorbike or even a bicycle can make it both difficult and expensive to get about. Traffic is horrendous at the moment as it is high season. Where I live, the traffic is very bad several times a day as the minibuses meet the speedboats and ferries to and from Phangan. NW down to SW side of the island is quieter. Places such as Lipa Noi and Thong Krut are very quiet. Chaweng is the main tourist resort. Very busy, noisy bars and restaurants in the middle part. Though you can find small, cheaper resorts as you move away from the middle. As others have said, better to come and spend some time first. See where you like.
  5. Seeing many Thais don't even have a driving licence of any sort, and often flee the scene of any accident, I don't think they are too bothered whether the law applies to them or not. Many Thais also offer money for minor accidents. Far cheaper and quicker than going through the insurance. Maybe there was more than minor damage here, in which case the foreigner should have offered to go to a bike shop with the guy, and get a quote for repairs, or at least exchanged details to negotiate repair cost. Then no need to involve the Police. Then again, it could be the Thai hoping to milk the guy for a big payout. It was in Phuket after all.
  6. I doubt mask number two in the photo will do any good, if any of them.
  7. They / them will likely learn a harsh lesson if placed in a male prison. Which is where the perv should be sent.
  8. I don't see what's funny about it. How would you feel if in her position?
  9. They have certainly got their work cut out tracking all the objucts orbiting the Earth:
  10. I'm offended that they keep coming up with this crap.
  11. Bulls**t. It depends where you live in Thailand and how exposed you are to the language. Many people that live in the holiday hotspots, where most Thais speak English, can go without almost never being exposed to significant levels of Thai. Therefore never picking it up, or needing it. The only way they will speak it is by taking Thai language lessons. Even half Thai children, if going to English speaking international schools, and speaking only English at home (if the Thai parent doesn't make the effort to speak only Thai to them) will have weak Thai language skills. It doesn't make them dumb. Get dumped in the back of beyond, where hardly anyone speaks English, (or whatever your native language is), and you will be forced to pick up some Thai or local dialect very quickly by necessity.
  12. Buttered sourdough with Heinz baked beans, or scrambled egg, sometimes smoked salmon, avocado and poached egg, grilled strong Cheddar Cheese. Occasionally marmalade with orange peel in it. This one can be served on toast, but I prefer it on fresh crusty bread: Instead of butter, spread with olive oil, then finely chopped raw garlic, sliced tomatoes, sprinkle with salt.
  13. Taking Greenland by military force? Negates any American complaints about China and the Paracel Islands or Taiwan. I wonder how many pardons Trump is going to have to issue when his time as President is up.
  14. You are presuming the government or the capitalist boss will want to pay the now redundant worker anything at all. There will of course be mass worldwide unemployment, so I suppose they will have to pay something to prevent said workers rising up. Or send in the robot police and soldiers. The Terminator might still yet come true. Only recently I was telling our daughter that nowadays, before going to university, students should take into consideration which jobs are less likely to be taken away by AI.
  15. I don't know how old these prices are, but this might give you an idea. https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Don-Muang-Airport-DMK/Korat-Royal-Thai-Air-Force-Base I would suggest making a prior booking with a taxi service rather than just a waiting taxi at the airport.
  16. We don't want your chemical laden food Donald. Please keep it in your US bubble to feed your worker ants. They will need the energy for the long hours they work with hardly any holidays, no holiday pay, no sick pay, no maternity leave, or workers rights.
  17. I agree. I already stated before that I was wrong, and that it was Thai law enforcement that followed him and made the arrest.
  18. Doesn't say whether he was either arrested, or restrained and continues to receive treatment, or whatever happened to him. He might even be back on the street and a danger to others. Come on reporter! let us know.
  19. As requested. Below is the link to the case I posted yesterday, but if you look two posts down from my original post, you will see that I stated I was wrong about the UK police being involved in the actual arrest.
  20. Likely that if she is happy, the OP get's a quieter, easier life than if she wasn't.
  21. Seems like I was wrong. The UK Police just notified the Thai Police and they carried out the operation. It was even posted here on AN: https://aseannow.com/topic/982244-uk-drugs-baron-arrested-by-thai-cops-on-samui/
  22. I think they can come here to work along Thai Police to arrest international fugitives if they have information on where they might be. I recall a case in Samui not too long ago where someone on the run from the UK was hiding out on Koh Matsum, a small one hotel island off the south west of Samui. His family all flew out to Samui to holiday with him. The UK and Thai police just followed the family from Samui Airport to Matsum and arrested the guy.
  23. So I guess it depends on the price (number of lives, collateral damage etc.) the US government is willing to pay to achieve their goals. In a country where almost anyone can obtain a gun, legally or otherwise, the number of lives lost over this is likely to be much higher than if something similar was carried out in say EU or UK.
  24. I must admit, I know nothing of RPN, but what I have been reading about and watching on Youtube videos recently is what is known as Singapore Maths. This seems to teach young school children to be able rapid solve many + - x / questions in their heads. Below is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXnp__Ni8e0
  25. As a Brit, I certainly wouldn't have voted for that.
