  1. Defence Minister Sukampol Suwannathat said ............The minister said he agrees with Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha, who has told the military it should remain neutral and stay away from the protest.

"The military has to be disciplined and the commanders have been instructed not to do anything," Sukampol said

BANGKOK, Oct 31 - Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha warned Thailand’s rank and file soldiers Wednesday that they will face disciplinary action if they participate in any political rally.

Although soldiers have the civil right to take part in a political rally, it is considered a violation of military discipline and their superiors' orders if they join political events.

"Any soldier found involved in any political rally will face disciplinary action which can result in being dismissed from military service," Gen Prayuth said. "Commanders will also be held responsible if their subordinates are caught taking part in any political gathering."

Who is running this 3 ring circus? Oh yer, Thaksin, Yingluck and another asshol_e.

This is was the same person telling the nation '"to vote for good people"" ,meaning the Dems now Thacky has him on the payroll

  2. Roll it on, we need a coup.

We need a coup... Do you realise how ridiculous that staement is. Not happening matey. Do you hear the Cin C of the army making pathetic political statements under this government because he never shut up under the Dems. I dont know how but hes been neutralised same as Gen Prem. As he cant speak they dust down an old general to lead a revolution, similar to the general dressed like a farmer Srimuang who has Thai peoples blood on his hands from 92. Sondhi got 23 years prison to face so hes keeping his pie hole shut (apart from some bit parts on ASTV). Brick by brick Thaksins boxing the system up and sending it to the dark ages.

  3. For those of you who bleated about wasting money on the rice pledging are now starting to be proved wrong. Thaksin this and Thaksin that but now you are starting to see the big picture. Its all about dismantling the monopoly that has kept the poor poor. The rice exporters who you would have to believe are part of the infamous amart will slowly but surely become one of Thailands relics of a bygone era. This government will maybe lose a few bob on the deal but the long term impact of the poor will be profound.

Presently there is no alternative employment but investment is on the cards and ASEAN is just around the corner. Thailand does not need to export millions of tonnes of rice to keep a few families filthy rich. As for the senate being incompetent, well what do you expect. A bunch of geriatric generals hand picked to hold sway in that institution. Very soon a coup is the only option left to the few who currently control. Thaksin is way to clever for the competition and he'll keep buying rice until they have no more to export. One smart cookie..(puts on tin hat waiting for the orchestrated naysayers to respond)

Thaksin had these G2G contracts sown up while he was gallavanting around as a fugitive. Id give anything to see the faces now

With most rice grown in the Central plain and North-East of Thailand and higher level people involved and profitting being Pheu Thai related local gentry I'm a bit confused about the quoted post. Mind you with k. Thaksin having G2G contracts sown and worldwide foodprices slightly declining, the government has thrown away THB 280 billion just to keep the infamous amart who are part of their most profitting supporters down.

The logic of it all escapes me, but with some posters and their posts that's as back to normal wink.png

The senate, or groups of senators has been refused by courts at least two times now. Courts citing lack of details to rule on / against. Maybe three times lucky?

So you know how much the G2G contracts are worth. Did you put a blindfold on and hit numbers with one finger while keeping one firmly on the zero

The guys that export the rice can be traced back to the original Chinese families that came as immigrants and as all the mills and all the export the profit from rice is firmly in the hands of a few. And they dont live in the NE Trace the family history of the top boys at the rice exporters of Thailand. Close shop mate. The guys who export 8 million tonnes of rice per annum are 100% not PT supporters.

The power base of Thailand runs rice, banking, buses, owns all the taxis construction, brewerys amongst others.

  6. Maybe the could hurry up and open up Google Checkout for Thailand then, that woudl help. They'll let you spend money with Google Wallet but will not let Thai business collect money via Google Checkout. Very painful for SME in Thailand wanting to sell goods and services online to the world.

Most Thais can use a system called www.thaiepay.com Even farangs can use it. Once they have checkout your website

  7. The two countries also agreed to new talks on a possible Thailand-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) agreement, which was suspended in 2006.

Was this because the EU did not do deals with juntas or was it the junta trying to keep the status quo by not opening up Thailand. It was not resurrected under the cobbled together army inspired, offer you cant refuse to form a coalition government under Abhisit rule. One would think the dems and the army have the same paymaster...Oooops

  8. The European leaders don't know that until the constitution has been re-written and until Thaksin is cleared of all its crimes Thailand has no REAL democracy?

Any constitution compiled under a military junta should be changed at the earliest possible time. Under the constitution they rewrote they absolved themselves of treason. Why is it that the dissenters keeping posting that the charter change is just about Thaksin getting off. I am sure there is other parts that are to be re writ that may cause worrying times for some people

  9. One post in support upto now. Well make mine 2. The eager to post dissenters on here that jump on every positive Yingluck thread are a tad tedious. European politicians do not spend there time getting opinions from a forum and second rate newspapers. For once if you dont agree with a news article say something constructive not derogatory recycled opinions and anti devil (Thaksin is the bogey man call the army out). Failing that take your head for a d..p

So a country run on corruption is OK ?

So this country was not corrupt before the last election. Head for a wobble please

  11. Lets play devils advocate. What if the men behind the rice exporters association are some of the characters who were behind the last coup..payback may be sweet. Or what about if Thailand is trying to get to a position whereby it only wants to grow enough rice to feed itself thus freeing up labour to work in jobs created by ASEAN.

ASEAN will create jobs if the current power players are not allowed to intervene. Keeping millions of people alive on the previous pittance of rice prices is reprehensible. Thailand does not have to export rice if other opportunities are availble. Do your own research on the rice exporters and make your own conclusions.

On a tv program last year it stated that 2 rice exporters accounted for 60% of all rice exports. Lets see 60% of 7.5 million is 4.5 million tonnes. I dont know the margins but lets say $100 per tonne. Nearly half a billion between 2 families. Not bad if you can get it.

  12. Surely as there will be people vising a convicted bail jumping terrorist sponsoring renegade to discuss various matters related to the state and the current maladministration in the next few days while the convicted bail jumping sponsor of terrorism is in a neighbourng country, those visitors will of course be summoned to report to the police as well ?

Or are we about to witness a selective accusation process that denies the rights of one group to protest in a peaceful manner yet allows another group to openly consort with a known criminal and sponsor of terrorism ?

I like many others was under the impression that the P.T.P. slavishly followed the route of democracy, well that's what they say anyway

.Seems as if democracy is based upon the colour of the shirt one wears and also the financial rewards that are available for your (mis) deeds too.

A wonderful insight into Red Democracy is it not ?

    .

Is the bail jumping terrorist you refer to better known as the weasel aka Sondhi

  13. Anyone who calls for a coup d'etat and thus want democracy to be raped should go to jail. Boonlert should keep his far to big mouth shut. Former intelligence chief? Come on intelligence chiefs do not use fake bomb scanners and avoid terrorism. Boonlert is simply a dumb ass with a name card.

Another plastic soldier sponsored by the faceless people to create the enviroment for a military takeover. The buffoons must know that there can be no more peaceful coups. The next one will, if there is one will be a drawn out civil war which will take this country back 50 years. Come to think of it that was the purpose of the previous coups.

  14. All the coup supporter, support it for 2 reasons:

    1) They don't see any other way to restore democracy and get rid of the worst corruption (I think no one would complain at the usual 10 % corruption)

    2) They don't believe that any military government could be worse than this Thaksin government.

And actually the last coup supports this ideas. It was the cleanest and best government since 10 years. Just their reforms were too weak to make an impact. A complete reorganization of the police, courts and structur of laws. But it was still the right way.

Whatever benefits there are to a coup, they are outweighed by the credibility and legitimacy that Thaksin inherits because of one. This is what most recently has given him traction. Fighting against anti-democratic people like Thaksin, is not done by using more anti-democratic methods, it's done by someone taking the democratic high ground, and the masses waking up and seeing that.

I see your argument, it is valid. But it may need decades, see how long it needed in the Soviet block and all the countries around. Look at North Korea....sure at some point the regime will fall apart. And it might be in the long term better if it goes the normal way. But impatience people like me, just don't want to wait 3-5 generations with 10.000s or Millions of deads (I don't mean violence, I mean underfunding of hospitals, healthcare, work safety, food, because of a corrupt or stupid government). (No I am not sarcastic). I prefer the quick fix. Thailand had many coups, real democracy never developed but still the country developed better than many similar countries, for a long time it was ahead of all neighbors.

Surely if there was a 'quick fix' which could fast track development to a more developed form of democracy than currently, then all countries in the world in similar positions would do it. Whilst i agree that the current Government is not doing a very good job and a coup could put a stop to it- it is very difficult to see how and where you go forward from the coup. How do you then go back to elections, without PTP or their affliates getting in again, as they no doubt would should there be a coup.

Some on here love their coups. Can somebody tell me who initiated the last coup and the one before that and the one before that. etc etc. It certainly wasn't the Army Commander in Chief on any occasion. Who makes the initial phone call. It is those people who need to be locked up not Thaksin.

  15. Lets face some home truths..most of which have bubbled to the surface in previous posts.

    1. The Thai education system is successful. It is successful because it fulfills the goals of those who govern and have power here, that being, to design a system which will keep the poor in their place.

    2. Thais have for many years been fed a very slick propaganda model which is essentially a navel gazing retrospective of some mythical, glorious past.

    3. Thai culture is change resistant (see point # 2).

    4. Thais are particular and exact in their nature... an offshoot of their convoluted language???? and as a consequence seem to be mesmerised by figures. They love test scores.

So we have a system run by the elites for the elites designed to disenfranchise the poor. I have been an educator all my working life and have worked in hi so international schools here as well as bi - lingual schools. I know a little bit about how children best learn. As for this shameful story on IQ??? yes IQ is meant to test innate ability but it often doesn't. Once IQ tests start to be formatted as a verbal response, they tend to test linguistic ability. Even mathematics tests are often closely bound to verbal comprehension. I have worked in Thai schools where yes ...'everybody wins a prize folks' and 85% is the magic number. I have witnessed the concerned Thai mother doing her child's homework on the skytrain, I have seen Thai toddlers barely able to pull their 'suitcase' of homework behind them.....more is better. IQ will not tell you all that much about a child's education; note I said education as opposed to knowledge, two quite different things. It may give some indication of the child's potential, that's all. My very real fear is that Thai character is such that they will not buck the feudal system which is at the rotten core of so much that is holding this country back. Things will continue as they always have. Hi So's will send their kids offshore, middle classes will struggle to send their kids to a Thai uni and get a worthless piece of paper and the rural and poor will continue to provide the elite with babies, who will grow up to work in their factories etc., etc. for, if they are lucky 200 Baht a day. All is well in the universe and Thailand in particular and things are as they are meant to be.

Excellent post.worthy of a second read. A previous poster refers to the inept Ministry of Education. You would be foolish to believe a department as low as that dictates the curriculum, they just enforce it. A colleague compared a western school timetable to that of his sons Thai school and rightly enquired about the amount of 'non lesson time'. After several complaints from farang parents they consented to fill some of the 'nap time' with lessons. Badminton, swimming, other sport etc but not academic studies. A western teacher in the school explained that any changes to a previously agreed curriculum had to be sanctioned by the local Ed Ministry and they would not allow any further academic studies only sports and such like. Wouldn't be nice if every Thai student asked a question beginning with 'WHY' at least once per day

  16. How many 'elite' Thai's are educated in Thailand? Certainly most if not all of the past 10 PM's have been educated outside Thailand, Thai's with money will almost definitely have their privileged children educated outside Thailand.

That in it's self say's it all!

The first thing they have to consider doing is (forget about the losing face thing) recruit qualified teaching staff from abroad, even if it means having a dedicated translator to give lessons.

Basic mental math is nonexistent as is basic geography, if there are concerns over dietary issues simply Google Jamie Oliver who has in some London boroughs revolutionized school meals.smile.png

The system is designed that way. An ability with numbers is essential for everyday life and we dont teach geography because other countries dont exist. A designed inward looking nation. You forgot history. Ask kids about Thailands inglorious World War 2 history. When the amart allowed The Japs to walk thru Thailand rape and pillaging the poor, to build a railway, as long as they did not touch the wealth of the rich. Not one inch of our soil will we surrender to the foreigner (rough translation) .... but they did 70 years ago. The same amart, more a less that runs the country today
