  1. My EV is filled at home as I don't do journeys over 580km. I don't have a PEA meter so all my power comes from excess solar in the middle of the day that would have been wasted Cost to fill up my EV is nothing.
  2. In addition to the thousands of public EV chargers available in Thailand, BYD have over 100 dealerships that all have chargers. You can see the status of the chargers and book them in advance through the BYD app.

So you think 12hrs 21 minutes + 15 minutes charging is = to 3 days
  4. Anybody considering buying a Camry or an Accord would be strongly advised to test drive a Seal Performance. Why pay more for a car that does 0-100 in 8 seconds when you could have Seal that does it in less than half that?
  5. My BYD Seal has an 86kWh gross LFP battery and bi-directional charging. I originally planned to just use it just for backup power in an emergency but it is so efficient that I’m using it every night and so greatly reducing the cycles on my solar batteries. As a result I don’t have a PEA meter anymore and probably won’t have to replace my solar batteries in my lifetime. The Seal’s battery is warrantied for 160,000km when it will have at least 70% capacity. You really think I would consider selling my Seal?

  8. I don’t have a meter, all my power comes from my domestic solar. Solar also powers my 2 EVs. One of my EVs has bi-directional charging so provides extra backup power. I would be happy to feed back power to the grid from my batteries at times of peak demand, but I’m not allowed to. As I’ve already stated, less subsidies on fossil fuels means more for the energy transition.

  10. In Thailand Gasohol and diesel have been heavily subsidized as well as electricity which is mainly produced by burning gas. Prices of fossil fuels have fluctuated widely due to volatility on world markets. The Government cannot afford to continue the subsidies. Electricity in Thailand should be produced locally using solar and wind rather than importing fossil fuels. Last month over 13% of new vehicles purchased here were fully electric this trend should be encouraged and supported using fossil fuel subsidies then Thailand would be energy independent and the air here might be breathable

  13. Maybe a topic for another discussion. I am struggling with Home Assistant and the Growatt intergration for my inverters as the api constantly logs in to check the status and Growatt sees it as a DOS attack and locks my account for 24 hours. I haven’t found a BYD integration for HA, but I saw HA used on a BYD which I thought was cool.

  15. I ordered the Seal on the launch day and I’ve had it about 9 months. Here is a video I made over 2 years ago laying out my plan to incorporate V2L into my solar setup
  16. He saw the graph but didn't bother to read it carefully and so didn't see that the graph was for only inverter #1 not the whole system. I made a "dumbed down" version of my V2L video which shows the Seal supporting the house with aircon running for a few hours
  17. My car’s battery is designed to push a 2 tonne car at over 100km/hr for 160,000km and after that it is warrantied to still have over 70% capacity left. By comparison when I use it for home backup I am drawing only a few hundred watts. BYD make no reference to V2L in the warranty. They probably think that restricting output power to 3.5kW it will have negligible impact on the car.

Also a Honda Click, that was used mostly by family and always brought back empty! As we are 15km from nearest pump it had be refilled from old whiskey bottles of gasohol purchased at a premium at the local shop.
  21. “He” I assume you mean me as you quoted Jungle on my Solar post. You see through that? Really? - do you have solar, clearly not. Do you know what curtailment is? Clearly not. People who don’t have solar probably think that solar production is uniform, if you install 5kW you get 5kW throughout the day - you don’t. If your house doesn’t use more than 1kW, you probably think a couple of 500W panels and I’m good to go, why would you install more than that? Solar ramps up during the day and the more sunny the day the more it ramps up. You have to install more solar than you need to cover for cloudy days and the fact that most of the solar production is in the middle of the day. Then we get to curtailment. PEA doesn’t allow me to feed back to the grid so excess power created is lost. The fact that I can charge 2 EVs and an electric motorbike in the middle of the day means that that power isn’t wasted. Here is the key point that you just don’t get. Making my solar system smaller originally would have meant more power would need to be purchased from PEA to power the house before I ever bought an EV.

Those of us who own Chinese electric cars on AN seem to have to spend a great deal of time defending them against anti-China rhetoric and the seemingly widespread belief that all EVs are rubbish but especially Chinese ones. My BYD Seal AWD Performance is a fantastic car and if you haven’t driven one you won’t be able to imagine just how good it is, but maybe this article might shed a little light on actually why it is so good: “More than 10,000 fresh college graduates have joined BYD, the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced today.
