  1. Thanks very much for that. The full size Shelly EM is what is recommended by HA for the energy dashboard but is considerably more expensive
  2. My first sensors were Xiaomi and they are 8 years old now. I still have them in most rooms, but Xiaomi doesn’t always play nice with Home Assistant, were as Tuya has been pretty reliable for me. So this is what I bought to replace them with. https://s.lazada.co.th/s.q82U2 I have been toying with the idea of using esphome but I know that once I start down that rabbit hole I will end up buying a 3D printer, something that have been resisting strongly “‘how much did that thing cost? I have never seen you using it. You and your toys!” (Wife) This is a good example of esphome for those unfamiliar with it and one I am seriously considering trying
  3. Trolls regularly join this discussion and try to hijack it by turning it into a discussion about EV fires or some rumor about something that might have happened to a possible EV in China. My experience is that such trolls are generally poorly informed about the facts about EVs and just believe the disinformation produced by the fossil fuel industry, legacy automakers and far right conspiracy nuts without question. After over 8.5k posts here we are pretty bored trying to talk sense into these people. There is a discussion for EV v ICE cars. There is a discussion for EV and ICE car fires. There is a discussion about why all Chinese cars are rubbish. If that’s what you want to talk about, please join one of those discussions. If you have a sensible question about EVs in Thailand then ask it here, otherwise you will quickly find yourself being ignored.
  4. There is no difference between EV's in Thailand and China. Maybe this link is more appropriate There is already a discussion about EV fires, please use it if you don’t want to reply directly to the discussion that you quoted
  5. @Will B Good @Keeps smart home kit starts pretty simple but but can get pretty complicated. I don’t know if you saw my basic intro video. If not here it is
  6. I have Apple TVs connected to my living room and bedroom TVs. The remote has a mic button that I use to change between Netflix, my Plex Server, YouTube, Tidal etc and other interactions
  7. Not everyone in my house likes smart home kit.
  8. I’ve had one for a few years and it does a great job of vacuuming and mopping, but yes it is cloud connected
  9. I purchased 2 FB Portals, one for my brother in the UK and one for myself for smart video calling. It came with Amazon Alexa built in and I have had a few odd instances like “would you like me to order …. for you?” But nothing with Google. Home Assistant is not cloud based so removes that worry.
  10. I tried HA a few years ago using docker on my NAS. It went away to find my smart home devices and came back with a jumbled mess. Last year I was thinking of trying out a Home Assistant Yellow, but it required me to provide my own Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4, and as far as I can tell they're unavailable, so I went for a Green instead. This time it went much more smoothly. HA has really improved in recent years. My original smart home kit from 7-8 years ago was Xiaomi using the Chinese server, but some them have stopped connecting. I purchased an Aquara M3 hub hoping to resurrect them but had limited success. I follow Everything smart home already but will add the other guy thanks.
  11. From my profile pic you will see that I have solar and park very close to my house. I would recommend an LFP battery, I bought one from BYD with nearly 600km of range and fast 150kW charging
  12. I have been using a basic one for a few years, but as it lives in its own app I plan to replace it with something compatible with Home Assistant
  13. Thanks for all the responses. I have just created a very simple introductory video to smart home devices. Feel free to ask any questions
  14. Yes the dashboard looks great. I have 4 Growatt inverters and I have tried the Growatt integration on Home Assistant, but it pings the server so often that Growatt blocks my access for 24 hours!. I have chatted with the guy who made the dashboard I posted and he is using https://solar-assistant.io/shop Yes I have Google mini speakers or Google compatible smart speakers in every room. Maybe you can post some of the things you are doing? I thought I might make a simple intro video for those who have never tried smart home kit.
  15. The dashboard isn’t mine, it’s one I got off one of the forums. My dashboard is very much a work in progress. I will post some screen shots later if this discussion gets some interest.
  16. Can you ask the Q on the smart home discussion I just created so we don’t hijack this one.
  17. I have been using smart home kit for a while now first using Google Home and now with Home Assistant on a HA Green server. This is the sort of thing that can be accomplished:
  18. Maybe this deserves it’s own discussion as I am been toying with smart home kit for a while. I will start one and link it here.
  19. Some solar installations treat the battery as a giant UPS that backups certain circuits in the house. The battery is always kept in reserve for these power-out situations. This seems a bit of a waste in my opinion unless power outages are a nearly daily occurrence. If you think power cuts in your area will only be a couple of hours it would be better to use solar, then battery, then grid power.
  20. Hello @RocketDog thanks for coming to visit. You are replying to a post from April 2022 so not sure if @steve187 got his questioned answered, but both MG and GWM have EV chargers at all their showrooms which are in just about every province now. They both offer free wall chargers with free installation. The condo issue we have discussed elsewhere and I would acknowledge that it is taking too long to get resolved but as most people only drive about 50km per day so a 30 minute stop for coffee or shopping and charge would easily cover a week’s driving.
  21. “I didn’t buy this toaster and have never even seen one in person, but I’ve chosen to give it a 1 star review as I think toasting under the grill is better” “In July 2024, one in seven vehicles sold globally was fully electric, with electric vehicles (EVs) accounting for 14.9% of total vehicle sales worldwide.” https://www.edie.net/one-in-seven-new-cars-worldwide-is-now-electric/ If you want more information about EVs, you could do worse than check out my discussion: https://aseannow.com/topic/1257405-electric-vehicles-in-thailand at over 8,000 replies there is lots to get into. I would also recommend a test drive. I might be a bit biased here but I would suggest you try my latest EV the BYD Seal AWD Performance, @JBChiangRai has one as well as do several other regular contributors to EVs in Thailand.
