"EV's are over rated" Based on your extensive knowledge of EVs - oh yes you actually know bugger all about EVs just talking out of your ... "too expensive for most Thai folks" You could argue that any new vehicle is too expensive for most Thai Folks, but as you can buy an EV in Thailand for less than a Suzuki Swift you can't claim that they "Too Expensive"

Electric Vehicles in Thailand

Interesting that many reviewers suggest that the entry level MG4s are the best value for money. The X-Power has the same performance as a BYD Seal AWD but most reviewers state that apart from the 0-60 time it’s not much different to a regular MG4 The green colour is an expensive add on. Having said that I bet it will surprise a few performance cars at the lights. -
Hoist with his own petard You have no "direct experience" of Chinese EVs
-
This discussion should be closed as it has simply turned into yet another EV and China bashing fest. The OP won’t get any more help with their request for feedback from owners of Chinese EVs as the majority of posters are simply here to troll

Posting links to “archived” sites generally means that the original has been removed, wonder why 🤔 -
Just because people disagree with you doesn’t mean that they are in a cult, unless that cult is the cult of sticking to the facts rather than unsupported opinions. The very fact that you are trying to highjack this discussion where the OP has specifically asked for comments from those with experience with Chinese EVs and you clearly have none, shows you are the one with cultish tendencies. I don’t sell EVs Yes I read your post and no you do not come across as “fair and balanced”

I will ignore your suggestion that Mr DIY - basically a Dollar Store is a good indication of the quality of Chinese EVs Cars like the BYD Seal are a global car and as it competes with the Tesla Model 3 it has to compete on features. Most people don’t live in the tropics and expect features like a big glass roofs on high end cars. Unlike the Tesla, BYD put a silver coated glass roof on their cars. Here is a video I made about it. I haven’t added any glass film to my car.

So we have a fire at a phone battery plant and you think that is relevant to a discussion about Chinese EVs. Do know that the BYD LFP Blade battery is one of the safest EV battery chemistries? No probably not

You claim to post “fair and balanced” yet you call EV owners an “EV Cult” what a hypocrite

The cult of the well informed, you should consider joining 😎 The future of passenger vehicles is electric with many countries planning to phase out ICE vehicles. Legacy auto manufacturers like the Japanese who have been slow to adapt to this trend and will have an uncertain future. I will admit to not recommending a Nissan Leaf and not owning one. The Leaf was first sold in Thailand in 2018 with a small 40 kWh battery and no active cooling (not good for a tropical country) a CHAdeMO connector which is not commonly supported and a ฿2m price tag. I never commented on it’s driving characteristics as I have never driven one. Even after Nissan knocked over ฿1m off the price of the Leaf it still didn’t sell well in Thailand. The following year the Chinese company MG launched the MG ZS EV with a 44 kWh battery with active cooling, a regular CCS charging connector and a ฿1.3m price tag. I put down a deposit on one.

Plenty of posters with no experience of Chinese EVs, yet they are more than happy to advise you based on their extensive ignorance. "I know nothing about Chinese EVs but I can tell you the range of an Isuzu MUX if that's helpful" (paraphrased)

I own 2 Chinese made EVs the first one I purchased 3 years ago and would never go back to an ICE car. Never had any problems. 8 Years warranty on the car and battery @Maybole I would you suggest ignore the “EV experts” who have never actually owned one, everything that claim to know is secondhand at best. The EVs in Thailand discussion has lots of news and real world experiences from EV owners in Thailand. https://aseannow.com/topic/1257405-electric-vehicles-in-thailand

Excellent article that actually referenced the article from the earlier post (now removed) They said that if the press release by Emissions Analytics was correct "tyres would be bald in less than 1,358 miles, or two months’ worth of driving for the average UK driver" -
BYD Seal tips, tricks and help

This is my 4th car with Apple CarPlay, in fact I moved from android to apple purely because Android Auto wasn't supported in Thailand at the time. In the Seal I plug in the phone which sits on the drivers wireless charging pad (wireless charging disabled) and select the Apple CarPlay App - I don't get a notification now, but I seem to remember getting notifications a couple of months ago. -

If you want an MG wallbox to work with the MG app, it will cost you more than ฿20k. You forgot about the installation which is included, but I suppose you could manage that yourself with ฿20 worth of bell wire. -

Before we accuse anyone of "looking rather foolish" let's check if the poster has checked his facts before posting. Back in September 2023 I posted that the MG4 D was selling for ฿ึ769k So what is the new price? ฿ึ669k without a wall box. So we have a ฿ึ70k saving but you have to buy and install your own wallbox. So who is "looking rather foolish now" -
I extrapolated the discussion about cost of gasoline to include all costs associated with purchase and ownership of a vehicle. Most people claim that all E-Vehicles are more expensive to purchase, so I chose a similarly spec’d ICE SUV to compare it with.

An MG HS PHEV is a little bigger than a Honda CRV and quite a bit cheaper. You might claim that the a Honda CRV will depreciate less so has a lower total cost of ownership. In the real world after 7 or 8 years all cars in Thailand are worth practically nothing. I have a friend who changes his CRV every 7 years, last time he got ฿400k for it. Before you say that it’s unfair to compare a Honda CRV 7.9 sec 0-100 to a MG HS PHEV 6.9 sec 0-100, I would agree with you. An MG HS PHEV has 70km of full EV mode, which is less than most people drive every day. 16.6kW @ ฿2.6 Per kWh (TOU) = ฿43 Per day An MG HS PHEV comes with completely free servicing (including labour) for 5 years after that it’s only the non EV parts of the car that require servicing, they never touch the battery; inverter or charging system (no moving parts) You didn’t bother to provide any evidence for your calculation. The main criticism of EVs is the cost to produce the battery, but the MG HS PHEV can be driven as an EV 90% of the time and yet has a tiny battery and so has a much smaller initial carbon debt that will paid off in a matter of months. “electric cars start with a carbon disadvantage, sometimes described as a “carbon debt”. However, that ‘carbon debt’ is paid off within about two years of driving the vehicle.” https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/dec/23/do-electric-cars-really-produce-fewer-carbon-emissions-than-petrol-or-diesel-vehicles
