1 hour ago, MangoKorat said:that the mining of rare earth metals used in battery production are causing environmental 'disasters' in parts of Africa and elsewhere.
Please be aware that this a 4,000 post discussion with many members here owning one or more EVs. You really need to check your facts before posting as you are in the presence of experts and will be called out for posting rubbishI regularly see posts claiming that REES are used in large quantities in modern EV batteries but that is incorrect. They were is used in Nickel–metal hydride batteries in older hybrid cars, but that is no longer the case.
“ Ce and La are important as catalysts, and are used for petroleum refining and as diesel additives”
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare-earth_element
in the paragraph about REES you quoted Cobalt, Cobalt is not a REE
The 2 biggest EV manufactures are BYD - 100% lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP) - and Tesla whose best selling models by far are the standard range model 3 & Y that now mostly use lithium iron phosphate (LFP). Ford has also moved to LFP All LFP batteries do not use Cobalt. My house battery and EV have no cobalt.
You might not know that Cobalt helps to clean petroleum of sulfur impurities that interfere with the refining of liquid fuels

What are the boot liner and floor mats like ?, not expecting top notch but good enough to save me buying any ?
Boot liner looked good actually. Mats are fabric material not the sculptured 3D plastic jobbies - won't stand up to much wear and tear but add to the carpeted opulence of the car

Will tomorrow be a good enough day?
Family negotiations went on without me, but lunch and a day out in Buriram was enough to turn today from unlucky into a lucky day

my son has 2 dedicated parking spaces in his condo in Bangkok both with dedicated charges one for a mg maxus and one for a bmw i4
Good to hear. Sold my condo in BKK years ago and I'm not up to date on the state of play.
Saw the MG Maxus 9 at the BKK motor show very impressive, ideal if you have a driver to go with it.

Are you suggesting that, when the DAW system detects you're tired, all you get is that coffee icon thingy?
I was hoping for more than that.
I'd also like to know how it monitors and analyses your driving.
can’t help you but I might be able ask at the showroom later today -

Anyone any idea of the workings of the DAW - Driver Attention Warning?
I can only find very vague descriptions of exactly what it does. The manual's description is hopeless. Presumably it makes some sort of visual/audible alarm if the car detects that your driving is becoming sloppy or you’re nodding off.
I’ve found a detailed description about how a similar feature on a Kia works, but I’d love to know what to expect on the Seal.
Did you mean the TFAC ?

anyone who has an MG can also charge their BYD cars at all the MG stations on high-speed DC
I asked my MG dealer and they said I needed an MG card that costs ฿1,500

I think the same on single phase, maybe faster on 3 phase, i’m sure someone who’s read the manual will confirm if they charge at 11 kW on three phase?I think MG is 7.2Kw regardless.

What are BYD like compared with MG when it comes to home charging P?
They both give a free wall charger and installation. MG uses Prime to do the installation and they don't like(understand) Solar.
BYD uses a different company (name escapes me currently) and I was assured by the dealer that having solar was not a problem.

EV subsidies in Thailand to be continued but at a greatly reduced level
For the EV 3.5 measure, the Thai government will provide subsidies for electric cars, electric pickup trucks, and electric motorcycles. By type of car and battery size as follows
1. In the case of electric cars priced no more than 2 million baht with a battery size of more than 50 kWh, they will receive a subsidy between 50,000 - 100,000 baht/car. For a battery size of less than 50 kWh, they will receive a subsidy between 20,000 - 50,000 baht/car.
2. In the case of electric pickup trucks priced not more than 2 million baht with a battery capacity of 50 kWh or more, they will receive a subsidy between 50,000 - 100,000 baht/vehicle.
3. In the case of electric motorcycles priced no more than 150,000 baht with a battery size of more than 3 kWh, they will receive a subsidy between 5,000 - 10,000 baht/bike.

In a Thai household the “Chew Len” (nickname - literally play name) is important
May I introduce “Moo Dang” (red pig) and “Mot Dang” (red ant)
The problem currently is what to call our White Seal. Seal in Thai is “Maw Nam” (water cat) but “Maw Nam See Cow” (white water cat) is a bit long for a nickname
I did suggest the car already has it’s name on the back, so why not call it 3.8? Not cute apparently.
We will probably stick with just “Maw Nam” (water cat) for now but if we end up getting his & her seals, the lack of colour distinction might cause confusion.Any suggestions grateful received

my comment was directed at @Andrew Dwyer and @Bandersnatch who both have Premiums on order but are both tempted to buy the Performance
Apparently the deal could be approved if I could buy a nice handbag to go in the space under the drive selector. Unfortunately the handbag has to accommodate an iPhone, the one that’s as big as a surfboard.-

Bit of education. Yes you can charge at home but the electricity still comes from the grid. Do you think it appears magically from somewhere else? Solar and wind do not produce sufficient electricity to fill the difference and even if they did, you have to store the electricity generated.
I don’t know why people are crying like a baby about EV electricity usage when the electricity used by EVs is a tiny fraction of the energy used in crypto mining. Yet you never hear a single complaint about crypto mining being a complete waste of energy.
“Cryptocurrency has an energy consumption problem. Bitcoin alone is estimated to consume 127 terawatt-hours (TWh) a year — more than many countries, including Norway”-

Wonder if there has been a new shipment or if they are being released from the docks very slowly .Seen adverts for 8 Seals near me today on FB.
3 x Black in Rangsit
1 x Black + 1 x Grey in Phra in ( Ayutthaya )
1 x Black + 1 x White + 1 x Blue in Ang Thong
All Performance models.
We put down a deposit on a White Seal Premium on September 29th (They released the price info at 6pm on Sept 28th)
Was told will get in October or early November. Called the sales girl this morning and she didn’t know when the next premium would arrive.
Ask if the Q for performance was any shorter
“we have a white performance at the showroom now if you want it” 🤔

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
Most of what you have posted is unsubstantiated rubbish. You are clearly not interested in buying an EV.
If you want to discuss EVs v ICE then do it in the EVs V ICE discussion.
This discussion is about EVs in Thailand
If you persist I will report you for attempting to hijack this topic
