  1. I'm going to take the contrarian view here and express some optimism that they can improve BKK's last mile using bicycles. Maybe not for extended travel, but certainly the last mile. Going the last mile from the BTS/MRT to a nearby destination is doable, though probably not everywhere in town. I used to ride my bikes all over the Asoke area with no white knuckle incidents. Even rode a tadpole recumbent 3 wheeler after my bypass surgery. Enjoyed the heck out of loading the bikes (2 wheelers) onto the longtail boats to tool around the elephant ear, and also Lumpini and Q Sirikit parks. Which, of course, required riding the streets in between. So I'm optimistic...
  2. Sorry. It was too long ago and I gave them away when my job ended and I left Thailand. Admittedly, the selection was hit and miss. Sometimes they had a good selection, sometimes slim pickin's. I just chose the ones with the thickest stainless bottoms and they held up fine for 4 or 5 years of use.
  3. I bought mine at TESCO and Big C. But that was long before Covid.
  4. Today, it's Brits 2, Swiss 1, but Russkies and Yanks don't seem to have gotten on the board. Yet.
  5. Gosh. Call me cynical, but I think it's kinda suspicious that travelers can pick it up abroad and bring it back into the USA, but there's no mention that the millions of unvetted foreigners crossing the border can bring it in with them... I guess it doesn't fit the gub'ment narrative. https://www.cdc.gov/globalhealth/measles/data/global-measles-outbreaks.html Current US measles vaccination rates are around 92%, while worldwide vaccination rates are 74% for the 2 dose recommended course (83% for one dose). Meaning that the millions of illegals coming in are typically from 2-3x as likely to be unvaccinated as locals. https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/measles Interesting that the worst recent US outbreaks (2018-19) were in Orthodox Jewish communities up north, which (I assume) had a religious objection to vaccination? I guess Florida's responsible for that? https://edition.cnn.com/2019/09/25/health/measles-outbreak-over-rockland-county-ny/index.html Also interesting that the UK is in much worse shape than Florida. I wonder who The Guardian blames for that? https://www.gov.uk/government/news/measles-outbreak-could-spread-warns-ukhsa-chief-executive
  6. If you're going to Chinatown in BKK, don't miss the spice shop halfway between Charon Krung (sp?) and Yaowarot in the alley right next to the Wat Mangkon MRT station. I made my own Italian and breakfast sausages while working in Bangkok, but I didn't bother with the casings. I just fried them up. Here in China, I do the whole deal, complete with stuffing the casings. https://www.nguansoon.com/index.php?page=about&lang=_en Edit: Oops. My bad, replying to a 13 year old thread... I hope the participants are still among the living. In any case, that spice shop is a must visit if you're in Chinatown. I was there last month, in Feb 2024 and it's as good as ever.
  7. The key word you're missing there is "yet".
  8. I was at a Spring Festival trade show just before the Chinese New Year here in northern China, where dried sea cucumber was going for up to $1,000 USD per pound. Some, even more expensive. I couldn't figure out the different grades that had some selling for less than $100 a pound and some selling for over $1,000. Tastes to me like days old fish, with the consistency of rubber pencil erasers, but apparently has an effect similar to Viagra.
  9. Houthi funding (and enthusiasm) pretty much dried up until Biden removed the sanctions on Iran selling oil. Now, they have $$ billions of Bidenbucks to buy drones and foment mischief. I miss mean tweets.
  10. Yet, so many people are moving to Florida... Escaping their blue crapholes. Florida is the fastest growing state, Census data shows Why do you figure? https://www.politico.com/news/2022/12/22/florida-population-growth-census-00075199
  11. From the CDC themselves: Measles cases in 2024 As of February 29, 2024, a total of 41 measles cases were reported by 16 jurisdictions: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York City, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington. Measles cases in 2023 During January 1-December 31, 2023, a total of 58 measles cases were reported by 20 jurisdictions: California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, New York City, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. https://www.cdc.gov/measles/cases-outbreaks.html Or, you can believe the MSM, who seem bound and determined to undermine DeSantis.
  12. More to the point, is it any worse in Florida than it is anywhere else in the USA? Because, according to the OP, the guy in Florida is to blame. Or is the OP just a political hack job, with absolutely no data behind it?
  13. That's a mighty bold claim to make with no link to any evidence. I'm not saying you're wrong. Just that, like the article in the OP, you have presented no evidence. No link to any data. But unlike the OP, I don't sense that you have a political agenda...
  14. Millions throughout the USA. I'm simply commenting on the temporal correlation between millions of unvetted illegal aliens and the prevalence of diseases that were once eradicated in the USA. Which is a much better correlation than the hack that wrote the article quoted in the OP, for which he/she presented absolutely no evidence.
  15. Shocked about what? That the Guardian would publish a politically slanted article, or that the sudden appearance of millions of unvetted illegal aliens would be accompanied by an uptick in measles and other diseases?
  16. Thanks! That's the idea... How hard was it to install Magic Lantern?
  17. I've been using my SJCam action cameras (SJ6 and SJ7) for time lapse photography for years now, with great results within their lens limits. Now I'd like to try to find a camera to make time lapse videos at longer ranges, which will require a zoom lens. That eliminates the obvious like the (highly rated but spendy) GoPro Hero action cameras. More looking for something like a DLSR or camcorder with variable zoom lenses, that can be externally powered by a charger so battery life doesn't become a limiting factor. The Photo blogs all recommend big $$$ cameras, but I'm hoping to find something second hand on EBay, where prices are often less than half the new price. Anyone have any favorable experience with time lapse using a DLSR or camcorder? Preferably, to be able to set the camera up and come back (for example) a week later to take the SD card out... And preferably with a time lapse feature as opposed to splicing together 1000 individual photos using post production software...
  18. To answer the title: Because they haven't figured out how to make the weed money flow to the right families, like they have for booze and smokes.
  19. I've been watching the map for a year now (posted twice above) and don't see any movement. Indicating 2 things. 1) Ukraine has lost, and throwing lives (and money) into the meat grinder is a cruel folly. 2) Russia hasn't made any moves beyond Putin's declared objective before the war started. I support peace and funding for rebuilding. Not endless war and a bottomless money pit.
  20. Go back to the nanny states today, and you'll be sorely disappointed. The washing machines (and dishwashers) today are low water usage, take twice as long and don't get the clothes (or dishes) nearly as clean as before. Give me knots any time over a 90 minute cycle and still not smelling clean. As far as the brands, there's so much incest that you never know what factory is making your appliances, regardless of whose nameplate goes on it. Some of the names (Westinghouse comes to mind) don't really make anything. They just use a long recognized name on products that come out of whatever factory makes them cheapest. My Dad was a Westinghouse engineer for most of his career and when I was a kid, that's all we used. Until they quit manufacturing, and started putting the nameplate on garbage. By the time he died, he wouldn't have one in the house.
  21. It doesn't matter. If you allow pride flags, you have to allow MAGA flags.
  22. The only 2 flags that belong in a classroom are the US flag, and MAYBE a state flag. Otherwise, where do you draw the line? Maybe a MAGA flag? (that would cause exploding heads) Or how about an Israeli flag, or a Palestinian flag? Or, down south, a confederate flag? Or whatever cause de jour...
  23. Rebuilding Ukraine will be worth $$ billions to the lucky contractors who will no doubt be awarded no-bid contracts like they were in Iraq, Afghanistan, et al. Maybe even $$ trillions in the long term.
  24. Anti Jewish, or anti Israeli policy? There used to be a difference. But it's been lost in the MSM narrative. In any case, this is an object lesson in "be careful what you ask for, lest it be used against your side next time" Like the "mostly peaceful protests" that destroyed entire city blocks.
  25. What's it tell you when even the warmongers and mercenary plutocrats like Prince say it's time to put an end to it? It's long past time for the killing to stop and the rebuilding to start. Or, we can stay in a forever war, pouring more Ukrainian lives and more US $$$billions ($trillions?), and hope against hope that nobody does something stupid that starts Armageddon.
