  1. I don't speak for evenkeel, but I've a feeling of deja vu all over again. We're on a slippery slope that last time led to ruination for millions of businesses, hundreds of thousands of adverse vaccine events (including my own), kids losing years of education and socialization from shutdowns and masking, and we still don't know the long term effects from the first few rounds of vaccines and masks made with carcinogens. Vaccines normally take years to develop and test. Now, we have one that can't possibly have been tested on fetuses through full term, and he's going to recommend it for everyone. Which the lefties in charge of hundreds of companies and state and federal agencies took last time around as permission to mandate that everyone gets one. And the wingnut in me tells me it's not about our safety. It's about money for corporate donors and normalizing the extremely different way that elections were conducted during the last go-round.
  2. From Bing... First of a few definitions: man·date NOUN[ˈmandeɪt] an official order or commission to do something: Nailed it.

    Head or Heart.

    Which head?
  4. How is "we're going to use your tax money to fund a vaccine that you may not want" not a mandate? Despite big pharma making tens, perhaps hundreds of billions of dollars, we're using your tax money to develop the vaccines that they're then going to sell at a profit. Sounds rather mandate-ish to me. Along with leaked news that TSA and other Fed agencies are scheduled to go back on a mask mandate this month. Doesn't that sound rather mandate-ish?
  5. If you started paying kids for returning bottles, they'd soon be hauling boatloads of empty bottles from the mainland. Kids would line up at the dock, waiting to buy a wheelbarrow full of empty bottles to turn in at even a slight profit. Still wouldn't solve the biggest problem with glass bottles on the beach, which is broken glass cutting people who tend to walk barefoot when they're on holiday at the beach.
  6. You'll find very few name and shame posts here because telling the truth is not a defense in Thailand against a defamation lawsuit/ criminal trial. If you publish anything that harms their reputation, they can sue you. And win, even if what you said was true. Perhaps even have you arrested. They also have the home court advantage.
  7. I'm trying to recall how many times the sidekick got stabbed by the Thai gang, while the guilty guy quietly slipped out.
  8. One guy would be living in the banana tree and the other guy would be living in a thorn bush. Been that way since they learned to climb trees.
  9. Money may not make one happy. But lack of money can sure make one miserable.
  10. Another lefty celebrating the death of someone, just for disagreeing with them.
  11. I like the guy because he seems to follow the data. I did a search on him last time I had Google and YouTube (I'm in China now where they're both blocked) and his earlier YouTubes were very pro-vaccine. But as the data have shifted, so has he.
  12. If you're handy and know how to search YouTube, you can buy one on Lazada for 50 baht (wireless, using your smartphone for display) or 400 baht (stand alone unit, with display). I keep one in the glovebox of my 23 year old Toyota van. Look up the code it's throwing on YouTube. Even if you don't repair the car yourself, you'll have an idea whether the repair guys are trying to cheat you. Oops. TimeMachine posted his advice while I was typing...
  13. Offer them 100,000 baht a month and see if they will. And if they will, that means the only reason they won't do those jobs is because the availability of cheaper migrant workers drives the wages down. Most people would scrub nasty toilets with a toothbrush if the pay was good enough. But not for migrant wages.
  14. Can you get genuine shellac in Thailand (made from ground up bugs...), or is it a petroleum based substitute?
  15. Certainly you're not claiming that Asean Now is a Moron-Free-Forum.
  16. Sorry. You're behind the times. Lia Thomas is still intact, and she swims on the women's team. Nowadays, all you have to do is claim to be a woman and you're transgender, with all the associated protections. I don't like it either. But I don't make the rules. Saw an article today about a person with a beard suing Walmart because an associate asked him/her what he/she was doing in the Ladies' room. It's crazy.
  17. Go to Amazon and search "candy vials"
  18. Yeah, but they need an OBD reader to reset the check engine light on the lemons they're selling. I guaranty you they have one on onsite and know how to read it.
  19. My 4 month wait was due to my insurance situation. Very few dermatologists in the network and the fastest I could get in was 4 months. Before I could get in, I found myself in Thailand (missing my USA appt) so I made an appt at Bumrungrad and got in that same day. But my sister, in a different network, makes her dermatologist appointments 6 months in advance so it may be my location in the Houston area.
  20. Perhaps "sweets" is the new code word for doobies?
  21. Wow. Don't sugar coat it. Tell us how you really feel...
  22. 6. Apply Protective Finish: If you prefer a clear finish, choose a polyurethane or varnish suitable for wood. Apply thin coats of the protective finish using a clean brush, roller, or sprayer. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for drying time and sanding between coats if necessary. If you prefer a clear finish, priming and painting isn't in the cards. So you can't do steps 4 or 5.
  23. If you were in the USA, I'd suggest a polyurethane varnish or a marine spar varnish. But I just don't know with rubberwood. We don't get much of that... I'm afraid the natural sap of rubberwood may react badly with varnishes that work great on oak or maple. Hopefully, an old Thai hand will chime in soon. BTW, for polyurethane or spar varnish, I'd start out thinning the first coat with about 10-15% mineral spirits to make it thinner, so it gets absorbed deeper. Then a second coat with full strength varnish. Doesn't sound like you need more than 2 coats.
  24. Agreed! Still can't make up my mind who was actually pulling the strings on it all. Certainly had nothing to do with people's health or well-being. Red voters tend to vote in person, on the day. Blue voters tend to vote by mail. I'm forecasting a "rinse and repeat" scenario, regardless of how much it hurts the economy. But that requires a new threat.
  25. I'd point out that if you perform steps 4 and/or 5, you can't do step 6.
