RFK Jr. argues that Biden is a bigger threat to democracy than Trump
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I know guys significantly older that are sharp as a tack. I also know people in their 60's that are losing it. Age isn't the problem. Cognitive decline is. -

What if a 300 pounder buys the middle seat? And has the taco surprise for lunch before boarding?

Pragmatic question here... Do you believe the residents in the Donbass or Crimea will suffer under Russia any more than they suffered under Ukraine? Will their quality of life go up or go down based on the GDP per capita?

Thai government considers recriminalising cannabis

How much has it cut back on beer and Hong Thong sales? 'Cause you don't want to fall afoul of those families. -

And Portugal is on the boards. Closely following the Italian guy. -
As long as they're not hurting anyone, I'd rather have them in Thailand than shooting at Ukrainians. My sympathy for their plight extends to victimless crimes like overstay and WP violations. But if they're actually victimizing anyone, send them to the front.

Mysterious Tunnel Found In Kanchanaburi, Likely Built During WWII
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
Both your buddy's photo and hers show caves that are barely high enough to crawl into. The photo in the OP shows a cave with a guy standing upright in the front, with plenty of headroom. Without exact location data, there's no way of knowing if they're the same cave. Based strictly on the photos, I'd say they're not. In fact, based on the slope at the entrances, I'd say those are 3 photos of 3 different caves. And I'd bet there are dozens (maybe hundreds) more all along the rail line. I've spent a lot of weekends at a temple in Sangkla Buri, near the 3 Pagodas, and it has a lot of wild area that may have dozens right there. And probably, the locals know all about them, but not that they'd be of historical importance. Maybe this article will jog some local memories and they'll find even more. On a side note, I really wanted to go exploring the gorgeous mountains and hills around 3 Pagodas, but thought the better of it when I realized what a hardship I'd be putting on the locals if I fell or got bit by a snake and they had to mount a rescue. -
You're going to have to provide a link to that. Because I suspect it's Team Biden in an election year when they finally snapped to the fact that the polls are so heavily against him on immigration. Looking to blame someone else, when it was his 90+ executive actions that caused the spike. The invasion, if you will. If I had access to YouTube, I could post a quite a few videos of Team Biden DHS Chief Mayorkis and Team Biden Border Czar Harris, insisting that the border is secure. Maybe someone else can help me out there... Meantime, here's some tidbits: https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/immigration/border-coverage/mayorkas-congress-border/ https://edition.cnn.com/videos/politics/2022/09/17/kamala-harris-border-secure-cuelar-smerc-vpx.cnn

WWII Tunnels Not A New Find, Says Author
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
The photo in the other OP shows a guy standing upright at the mouth of their cave, with quite a bit of clearance overhead. It's not hard to imagine there's hundreds of such caves all over Thailand, especially along the railway where they'd expect to be bombed and had prisoner labor to dig them. It would be helpful for all the claimants to post GPS coordinates of their finds, just to eliminate questions. -

Retirement visa VS tourist visa. Advantages?
impulse replied to Hellfire's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
If you do settle into Thailand, I'd suggest checking out multiple hospitals in your area. Some are better than others, and that's good info to have before you find yourself in need. Also, check out different doctors (who may take shifts in several hospitals) to find one you like that speaks English. And get a business card... A good place to start is the local expat breakfast hangout. Find out where they go. Then burn some shoe leather. -

I don't disagree at all. (Nor do I agree.) But goll dang, that's 3 defamation lawsuits... Maybe more if you include the RTP. In Thailand... Edit: Out of curiosity, under Thai law, is AseanNow shielded from defamation suits for stuff they allow on the forum? -
Road accident scenario, what would happen?

Just to clarify, is your road bike of the pedal variety, or the powered type? -
I'd cut him some slack. Not all peaceniks are independently wealthy. Some of them have to work to afford living overseas, away from the meat grinder.

PM Blasted For Saying Cannabis Policy Yielded Bad Results
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It would be interesting to see what happened to beer and Hong Thong sales while weed was legalized. Maybe that's what he meant by "bad results"? -
That's probably the only accurate statement in your post. But I think the correlation is the amount left on your student loan. Watched some YouTubes last week when I was in Thailand, interviewing "young adults" about what they thought of Biden. The most oft repeated complaint was that he hasn't cancelled their student loan yet.

Internal strife and political interference hinder Thai police reform
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'm more inclined to hope that the corruption remains relatively benign toward foreigners. For every corrupt official that's rooted out, there's probably 3 or 4 wannabes lurking in the wings that may be less friendly toward us, and casting greedier eyes at what we collectively own and earn. -

Just a small subset of them. But the most vocal subset, by far. -
Context is important. Gotta have something to compare it to. Edit: Also doesn't hurt the forum to discuss shared experiences that make us more alike than a lot of posters would think, based on the catfights we see so often.

Help! I can't operate my Canton remote control anymore!
impulse replied to Furioso's topic in Audio Visual AV
I don't know if it will help the OP, but if I needed anything in the audio genre in Bangkok, I'd start at the Ban Mo electronics market near the Sam Yot MRT. Walk out the east side of Old Siam Plaza, cross the street at the red painted, signal controlled crosswalk, walk 50 yards down the market alley, then hook a left into the bowels of the multi-floor market for all things electronic. I can spend hours just scrounging in the hundreds (thousands?) of electronic and maker kiosks. In fact, I did last week. I was afraid Covid may have decimated the place, but it's still great. Found exactly what I was looking for by brand and model (though it wasn't a remote control). Bring your old one...
