Was Ex police officer Derek Chauvin wrongly convicted !
impulse replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
Had Floyd been white or Asian, the whole incident would have been put down to a fatal Fentanyl overdose and buried on the back page. Same with the Penny case. I hope that anyone harmed by any protests after the Penny verdict sue the snot out of the race baiters calling for vengeance. That should have happened to the race baiters who fomented the "Summer of Love and mostly peaceful arson and looting", too.- 287 replies

Sure. That's simple enough. But you're confusing "the uneducated" with "the unconvinced". Or "the unindoctrinated".

Related to the park in the OP... (More accurately, the lake right next to it). Years ago, they had a fleet of sailboats, kayaks and others, along with a clubhouse for the sailing club(s). Does anyone know if all that's still there, and know anything about their programs? Edit: And on an aside, have the BTS or MRT gotten any closer to that area? That was the downside 10 years ago, no public transport to the area. These photos are from 10 years ago...

Police are interviewing suspect in killing of health insurance CEO
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Apparently not the sharpest tool in the shed, in spite of high IQ and lots of education indoctrination. Had he not fallen for the power of the poon to flirt with a Starbucks barista, they wouldn't even have a picture without a mask. And then he was stoopid enough to keep all that evidence on him. For a few hundred bucks of fake ID and the throwaway gun. Then there's the manifesto... All on his person and not in a river somewhere. Almost sounds like he's being set up. It'll be interesting to see what the interweb sleuths dig up on his online history. Maybe he's that stupid, or maybe he wanted to be caught. -
British man’s Thai-high’ trip goes up in smoke at Manchester customs

18 months suspended, 200 hours of service work and 10 days in rehab. Doesn't seem like much of a deterrent. I wonder what the guys not named Ahmed would get?- 46 replies

Joe Biden Ranked 'Worst President' in Modern History, Poll Reveals
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The GDP, maybe. But does that filter down to the voters? Keep in mind that 90% of stocks in the USA are held by 10% of the people. Deep dive into those St Louis Fed numbers and you'll see that very little has trickled down to typical voters. Employment stinks. Hours worked stinks, Average wages stink. The only bright spots are for billionaires, immigrants and gub'ment employees. Edit: And I'd add that immigrant job growth hasn't come close to keeping up with immigrant population growth under Biden. -
Foreigners and Thais Arrested in Underwear at Bangkok Hotel Party
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
One may suffer the illusion that professionals would realize how much they have to lose if they get banged up with drugs in Thailand. I think there's a tremendous tolerance for gay underwear parties in LOS. But, like it or not, not much tolerance for illegal drugs. It would be interesting to see how many get deported. Though I suspect that there's a solution where that won't be necessary. -

And if you do a deep dive into employment figures, wage numbers, savings and debt (personal, corporate and public), you'll find that the benefits of any GDP increase aren't ending up in the typical voters' pockets, or our bank accounts. Here's all the data... But most couldn't be bothered to dig any deeper than what the MSM spoon feeds them. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/ BTW... Spoiler alert. Immigrants, billionaires, and big corporations are doing okay. -
Joe Biden Ranked 'Worst President' in Modern History, Poll Reveals

You mean the graph in the OP that shows Trump getting 30% favorable ratings, while Biden only get 14% favorable? While both of them get statistically identical unfavorable ratings... -

You're coming from the illusion that fact checkers and "bias indicators" aren't as biased as the ones they're rating. Some of them, even worse. -
Does “Not in the Mood” Even Exist in Asia?
impulse replied to 123Stodg's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
It's kind of like telling your boss at work "I'm not in the mood". We all wish we could sometimes, but most of us were on the SCIP. That's the Salary Continuation Incentive Program. Keep doing what the boss says, and they'll keep paying you. Thai women are keenly aware of where the money comes from, and the competition for that money. Western women generally make out like bandits in the divorce. That gives them permission to be "not in the mood". Even the dating ones have backups to the backup for their affections and their goodies. -

Your linked survey was from Feb 2024. Before the debate, the bloodless coup and the historically stoopid pardon. -
I Think I Might Have Screwed Up
impulse replied to kingstonkid's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I got nothing in terms of advice. I'm a Yank and don't claim knowledge of how the Canucks are operating. Just the consolation of wishing that's the dumbest thing I've done. Even recently. -
Be careful what you wish for. They'll all be moving to Thailand.

I was absolutely mortified at what I witnessed yesterday.
impulse replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Are you claiming you never had a job? Where did you get your startup funds to invest? The nanny state provided a safely regulated market for those investments. I'd bet a month's salary that you couldn't survive Thailand for a month leaving the house with 50 baht a day of discretionary money. I couldn't. So I don't pass judgment on Thai people who can, nor the choices they make in doing so. I'd behave a lot differently if I had to even try. -

Yeah, you definitely need to learn the culture. Here's a good start to understanding "the culture". Walk out of your house with 50 baht in your pocket each morning for a month. No plastic and no quickpay. Just 50 baht. Because that's all the discretionary money you'd have if you made a Thai salary, especially with a wife and kids at home. You'll quickly figure out a lot of the idiosyncrasies you see every day. Then thank your lucky stars you have that nanny state nugget you made before you moved to Thailand. -

impulse replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Yes. That's exactly what I mean. They offer multi-year loans for a $2000 scooter. If you can barely afford that, a good helmet may be out of reach. And a 500 baht plastic beanie is useless. Probably worse than useless. Except for getting through police checkpoints. You keep looking at Thai life and the locals through your nanny glasses. -

impulse replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Easy to come to Thailand with the nugget you made working back home, then pass judgement on how the silly brown people spend their meager wages. I had 2 scooter helmets. One skullcap cost me 2 weeks' salary if I was making 300 baht a day. The full face helmet cost me a months' salary at 300 baht a day. And they weren't top of the line. Just minimally functional. Most Thai people are caught in the middle where there's a need to get around, matched up with wages too low for everyone to afford 4 wheels and a ton of steel. So they haul their kids around on scooters... It's not lack of love. It's economic reality. -

impulse replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
And if they did, would you have to spend another 2 weeks' salary in a few months when they outgrow it? 2 weeks' salary, assuming you want a minimally functional real helmet, and not a useless plastic beanie. -
Police Truck Slides into the Sea While Towing Jet Ski on Koh Samui
impulse replied to Georgealbert's topic in Koh Samui News
Tough crowd here. Boat ramp fails are a favorite on YouTube. Thousands and thousands of videos of people doing much worse. It's funny until it happens to your truck. And even that turns into a funny story at the next beer party. -
Joe Biden Ranked 'Worst President' in Modern History, Poll Reveals

The election results were skewed by the $1.5 billion the Dems dumped into it, and all the celebrities (many paid...) who sided with Harris. In a head up election, they would have been trounced even worse.
