American tourist and Thai girlfriend drown in Phuket
impulse replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
You guessing, or do you have CCTV? Because nobody ever gets murdered in Phuket... It would be bad for tourism. -
American tourist and Thai girlfriend drown in Phuket
impulse replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
So, zero chance he was murdered and tossed in the water? (not to put too fine a point on it) If he was my brother, I'd want to know. Before complete strangers call him stupid. As if they know. -
American tourist and Thai girlfriend drown in Phuket
impulse replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
For one, it would be interesting to know what caused his bruises. Even the locals are wondering. From the OP: Both bodies were sent to Thalang Hospital for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact causes of death. “It is believed that one of them was swept away by a wave, and when the other attempted to help, they too were struck and drowned. However, we are still investigating the exact cause of death.” Edit: Or did I miss the CCTV video showing them getting into the water? -
The strange thing is that I'm not anti-vax, nor even anti mRNA. The numbers show that for some demographics the benefits outweighed the risks. But that's not who they're targeting for the shots. And we're all entitled to transparency and to the data that allows us (and our own healthcare providers) to make those decisions. Whatever data is available at the time. Not having to scrape it out of databases 3 years later. With yet more data that won't come out for years, though it's already gathered. Just not disseminated. I call it squelched, while others call it debunked. It's not debunked until it hits the light of day.

The good news is that everyone's right. How often is that the case?

Lazada Dismisses Rumours of Divestment in Thailand
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I made hundreds of trouble free purchases on Lazada. Lotsa stuff I couldn't even find in local shops. Other stuff I didn't want to spend the whole morning scrounging local markets in the heat, even if I had time between job callouts. My only complaint was their search function stinks, returning results that have nothing to do with the search terms. But their deliveries were like clockwork, and the 2-3 defects I received were handled extremely well. I'd hate to see them go away. -
My vaccine injury symptoms are getting worse, over 3 years after my 2nd Pfizer. (You may recall that my symptoms started the day after my 2nd Pfizer and over 2 years before I got Covid) The left side of my head has recently gone from numb to low grade pain. Next week, I'll be back in Bangkok and I plan to get a CT of my head at Bumrungrad, where they have several historic CT's of my head to compare. Gonna be interesting... It's going to take years before we know the full extent of the damage caused by the mRNA.

Border run at Ban Pakkad by oneself.
impulse replied to Eugen63's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
How are the drivers? I swore off kamikaze vans after my 2nd trip in one. The first trip was so crazy white knuckle I thought it had to be a fluke. The 2nd trip was just as bad, indicating it wasn't a fluke. No 3rd trip for me, unless it's with a company and driver recommended by someone I know. Some of them have been great drivers, but I won't take a random one. -
You make a mistake, it was Lopburi, to see his mates. I don't know about Hat Yai, but Songkhla town itself has plenty of his buddies that come down off the temple's mountain every evening to beg for food, fight, and entertain the locals. Often bleeding out onto the beaches to cause mayhem.

Duck Tape is historically correct. Duct Tape is technically correct. https://www.scienceabc.com/social-science/is-it-duck-tape-or-duct-tape.html Its initial application had nothing to do with ducts.

My Thai visa is in an expired passport
impulse replied to tac's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Whatever the case, I hope the OP will post back to let us know what he did, and how it worked out. That's for future reference, to benefit anyone who finds themselves in the same situation. -
My suggestion would be to talk to people who have been down each path. See what worked (and didn't) for them. Don't count on what you read online. When I first started working in Thailand, a few of my colleagues were doing the citizenship thing. Long stays in Thailand. Thai wives, Thai kids, old enough to be in school. Big oilfield salaries. Fluent in Thai. When my contract ended 6 years later, they were all still doing interviews for the citizenship thing. That's a survey of only 3 cases and YMMV. But talk to guys who have done it. Over dinner, over a beer. Face to face.
-
It has a ton of relevance if the OP is examining only 2 of the several long stay options and both of them are expensive and/or time consuming, with the citizenship option also being extremely low probability. Retirement is probably the easiest, cheapest and most assured. But only if the OP's over 50.

American tourist and Thai girlfriend drown in Phuket

Call me skeptical, but I'd wait for the autopsy to come in before declaring it an accident or a red flag violation. And by that, I mean the autopsy they should perform on his repatriated remains. Not the local one. (And if anyone from his family is reading in, that's a suggestion) -
Wouldn't that mean that Biden is responsible for all the Trump cases being prosecuted by his administration, in spite of vehemently denying it? You can't have it both ways... On a matter closer to the OP topic, my apologies that it's an RT link, but the underlying WSJ article is blocked where I'm staying in China. Boeing can’t find new CEO – WSJ Several high-profile candidates have turned down offers to run aerospace giant, Boeing, The Wall Street Journal has reported, as the plane-maker faces scrutiny over multiple safety issues with its products. https://www.rt.com/business/599553-boeing-cant-find-new-ceo/ Perhaps someone else can post a link to the WSJ article. (Or debunk the RT article)

Belgian Tourist Dies After Brutal Attack in Hua Hin
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
That's just sad all around. Condolences to his family and the friends that stayed by his side. And I hope the attacker gets the full measure of retribution. Legal, or otherwise. At the very least, so he isn't walking around free, and can't do it to anyone else. Anyone in the know, please post back with any information about the status of the case. -
In a related case, here's the UK Greenies doing what Greenies do. Thank goodness they got the wrong planes. Can't imagine the blowback had they actually gotten Taylor's. Former CDC Director Predicts Imminent Bird Flu Pandemic
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I don't see anyone not wanting to plan for it. I do see a lot of people whose lives were destroyed and futures were stolen by poor decisions that are just now (years later) being revealed as non-science based wild ass guesses. And they're saying "let's not make the same mistakes". Like following the advice of the CDC, which was responsible for the country with 4% of the world's population, the most Covid spending (by far) and 16% of the world's Covid deaths. Maybe we don't want to follow their (bought and paid for) advice... Maybe we should look at countries that did much better, for much less, with less damage to their kids' futures. -
I know he did a million movies, but the 2 that stick out in my mind were Kelly's Heroes and Animal House. Neither was a huge role for him, but he made the characters great and memorable. Like so many other movies.
