The Opportunity Cost Nobody Talks About
I have a Krungsri Mai Thai Dee account, it pays 0.9% and that's taxed at 0.15%. I know it states 1.5% if you open the Mai Tahi Dee online , but a foreigner cant open one on line , i have tried. The SCB however do have an EZ account that I use and that does pay 1.5% , much better than the Mai Thai Dee account as that's subject to 3 withdrawals per month , after that a penalty applies , where the SCB EZ account is instant unlimited withdrawals without any penalty's, Only one thing to consider, is the EZ account is 1.5% up to 1 Million and the Krungsri MTD is 0.9% up to 2 Million

Change from 65,000 to 800,000
Yes , correct i have used the income method for the past 3 years including the recent one done on 16 January and for all of those 3 extensions , I had never revealed that I had well over 800,000 in another Thai bank account with a different bank. So I just cant understand why if I did want to go back to the 800,000 deposit method, why I can just make sure I have at least 800,000 in a Thai bank at the very least 2 or even 3 months before I applied for the extension next year.

Change from 65,000 to 800,000
Yes , thats exactly how I see it , the 800,000 would only have to be in.the account 2 moths prior to the new extension in 2027. The thing is , there was absolutely no way the young Immagration officer was confused. He was highly intelligent and spoke fluent English and he clearly understood everything that was being discussed. I only went in there to just check and clarify the situation on Friday 30th January, but he was addiment about it. He clearly knew that my last 3 extensions were obtained using the 65,000 income way. I just dont understand, why he looked through all my banking apps and pointed out that I had gone below the 800,000 after my extension on 16 January and therefore couldn't use that way for next year. I think i will continue with sending in 65,000 per month and obtain the 2027 extension that way , but I still think he is incorrect and the 800,000 need only be in the account 2 months before.

Change from 65,000 to 800,000
Sorry , just reread my original post and its a bit misleading. I have actually 4 bank accounts, SCB , Krungsri, Kasikorn and Bangkok bank. I use my Bangkok Bank for tge monthly international transfers , I have two accounts with Krungsri, one for day to day spending and one were I have always held a minimum of 800,000 , this account was never shown to immigration when I did my extension on 16 January, I only showed them my Bangkok Bank account, so they would have no idea I had over a 800,000 in a Krungsri account. I keep just over 1 million in an SCB EZ account for emergencies as it pays 1.5% interest. The whole idea of doing my last 3 extensions using income method was to be in a position to transfer all these funds i have sitting in these Thai bank accounts and invest them into Wise Stocks , I have just been waiting for the THB to get stronger and planned to transfer the funds out once I got my new extension.

Change from 65,000 to 800,000
The funds were in separate accounts , I used the Bangkok bank for the incoming funds of 65,000 , i have never shown them my balance of over 800,000 in my Krungsri account until yesterday, I obtained the extension using my Bangkok Bank income on 2 weeks before on 16 January.

Change from 65,000 to 800,000
No , totally incorrect, I obtained the extension on 16 January using the pension method with the international transfers coming into my Bangkok bank , I did not show them or mention i had 800,000 in my other Krungsri account. It was only yesterday the 30 January I went to pick up a COR and it was then I made the inquiry and showed the officer the Krungsri account with the funds .

Change from 65,000 to 800,000
For the past 15 extensions based on retirement, i always used the 800,000 in my Thai bank up 3 years ago. Then for the past 3 years, I have used the 65,000 monthly international transfer way , but I have always still kept a minimum of 800,000 in my Thai bank as a safety measure just in case something like one of my monthly transfers that I send via Wise from the UK and in August last year , something did in fact go wrong , my 65,000 international transfer sent to my Bangkok Bank, somehow ended up going to Kasikorn bank first and Kasikon sent it domesticly to my Bangkok Bank.. I did my latest extension on 16 January this year and my new extension is valid until March 1st 2027. Once I got the extension with no issues, they seemed to overlook the August transfer recorded as domestic on my 12 month statement, but I had obtained a credit advice from Kasikorn which showed the funds originated from Wise UK. Anyway as I had now got a new extension, I withdrew about 150,000 from the 800,000 thinking this would not be a problem if I wanted to go back on the 800,000 way next year. I normally do my extension in January about 40 days before its due on March 1st. So I thought if I decided to end the 65,000 way , I could just make sure I had 800,000 in my Thai bank account say as from November this year. Today, I asked at Immigration if that would be OK , but to my amazement, I was told No , it would not be possible as the young guy who checks the paperwork at Phuket immigration said , i had gone below 800,000 , and as my extension was done on 16 January, I would have to provide a 12 month bank statement next year as from 16 January and it should not have gone below 800,000 for the first 3 month. I then tried to explain that I had just done my new extension using the pension way so why would I need to have kept the minimum 800,000 in my bank as I had not done my new extension based on the bank deposit method. He was very polite and helpful but he said I shouldn't have gone below 800,000 and advised me to now carry on making monthly international transfers if 65,000 and then in 2027 on the day I do my extension, make sure I had a minimum of 800,000. Then I could go back on the 800,000 way in 2028 , it seems very incorrect to me .

International money transfer via the SCB EASY App
I have used in several times, once to transfer out 13 Million Thb to my UK bank in 2018 , it was very easy and no questions asked. Last week , I wanted to transfer out 1 million Thb , tried DMONEY which I use sometimes, they had a limit of 500,000 Thb. So I just simply opened my SCB app , pressed International Transfer, filled in a few details and sent . No questions were asked, I didn't even have to do facial ID , only a OTP. To my amazement , the funds hit my UK bank in a few minutes .

Obtaining Driving Licence Phuket
Well , I definitely went upstairs to the same area they use to do the extensions for Non O based on retirement, in that area there was a small room on rear left hand side , last time I used that room for a COR was in 2004 , 2005 and 2007 , then after that i had to the big room on the ground floor directly underneath. I myself have never once paid for a COR , the guy in charge in the big room who sits at the back use to do the 90 day reports upstairs and I got to know him very well , so I always ask for him and he then informs the girls in front not to charge me.

Obtaining Driving Licence Phuket
Great news , when I first came to live here in 2001 , the certificate of residence was always free with no questions asked , back then you went upstairs to a rear room off to left , were two very pleasant Muslim girls would issue the COR on the spot , back then though the immigration office was always more or less empty with no queuing.

What minimum balances do you keep in Thailand?
Does the laughing emoji indicate your a complete F×××ing idiot who's knows absolutely nothing about Wise Stocks and Wise interest which is classed as Bonds to save CGT , i expect your probably a potless Pattaya piss head !

What minimum balances do you keep in Thailand?
I live here in Thailand for 24 years, I set the Wise app up in Thailand but used my UK address . The option to invest into Wise interest or Wise Stocks is all available on the Wise app , the reason I keep my GBP in Wise interest abd Wise Stocks is because its all classed as Capital Gains ( even the interest as its invested in bonds) therefore not liable to UK tax as I live outside the UK and therefore not liable for CGT on Stocks or bonds .
-
What minimum balances do you keep in Thailand?
Yes , 3.75% in a GPB current account, it was 4% a few months ago , is keep £200,000 in my Wise GBP account and £750k in the Wise Stocks account, that earns around 12% to 13% PA on average, it goes into there Blackrock I Shares MSCI index fund , can easily transfer funds from the Stocks to the GBP current account in seconds

5 Tips to get discounts when buying car insurance in Thailand
I am insured with Roojai now for 5 years , No 1 insurance for a Toyota Yaris , 3 months before my insurance ran out , I received an email urging me to renew my insurance early to save , I then was receiving weekly emails reminding me that my car insurance was due to expire . I have 40% no claims bonus, so I did an online quotation as a new customer for the same car , using my exact same details but ticked the box that I had 0% no claims bonus , to my surprise , the quotation was about 1000 cheaper than my renewal quotation that was supposed to include 40% NCB. So I sent them an email explaining this and screenshots of the online quotation as a new customer and asked them to explain and also why would anyone consider renewing there car insurance 3 months before ot expired. They did actually reply quite quickly with some complicated explanation and in the end after a few emails, they agreed to offer me the same price as the imaginary new customer quotation with 0% NCB. I actually renewed it yesterday and it took about 2 or 3 minutes, so I still can't get my head around the continuous emails I had been receiving as far back as August prompting me to renew early to save time.

Opening a K bank account impossible?
Maybe it was because I have been at the same address for 23 years , I did also but forgot to mention in my post that I have a Tax ID and I did also show them it although they didnt ask me , that Tax ID also had my address on it.

Opening a K bank account impossible?
I must have been lucky , last week I strolled into the Patong branch in Phuket of the Kasikorn bank. The reason was I wanted to open an account as I had been having problems with my Wise incoming monthly payments sent to the Bangkok bank arriving in the Kasikorn bank and then being transferred by Kasikorn locally to my Bangkok Bank with a code NBD (no book deposit) instead of International transfer. So I thought, I better try and open a Kasikorn account and then have my Wise payments sent directly to Kasikorn. I was asked if I had Thai licence which I had with me , then they checked my visa status being a Non O , they copied my passport and made me sign few pages. Then gave me a bank book and asked me to deposit sone funds , which I deposited 300 baht . That was it , 20 mins I was in and out and that included them putting the Kasikorn banking on my phone. There was no request for a proff of address letter from immigration, just my Thai licence has it had my address on the back.

What bank gives the best interest ?
Yes , that SCB EZ account, i have it and as you said it was originally 1.5% on 2 Million, then they sneaked it down to 1 Million but didn't inform us. Then back up to 2 Million, so a probably a lot of people like me put 2 Million in , then about 2 months ago changed it back to 1 Million, again not informing us.

Bangkok Bank letter for extension of stay (65,000 THB)
Yes , your right, i had worded my comment incorrectly , it should have said transfers not income
-
Bangkok Bank letter for extension of stay (65,000 THB)
They never have issued letters confirming 65,000 income , they are shown on the 12 month bank statement, the letter the bank has always supplied is just to confirm that the bank account belongs to you.

65,000 Income problem with Wise
Yes I did go to Kasikorn bank and they were helpful and emailed me the credit advice , but its absolutely useless as it states it was a NBD , no book deposit and Purpose Tourist Expenses. Apparently now , there are many other people coming forward with this exact same issue, Bangkok Bank call center apologised saying they have changed the way funds received from Wise are paid out as from sometime in August. So I will now abort the 65k transfers and use the 800k way as my extension renews in March
