  1. Went to look at both the MG4 and BYD Dolphin today. MG4 doesn’t have one pedal driving. Apparently Dolphin doesn’t have either. MG4 doesn’t have physical autohold button. It can only be activated via the touch screen - not ideal Dolphin doesn’t have electric seat controls. Supposedly, the higher end model (not yet available) will have it. MG4 has for driver seat only Neither vehicle has HUD. MG4 only has 4 yr warranty. Service every 6 months/10k km Dolphin has 8 yr warranty, service every year/20k km Both have 8 yr warranty on battery. Both are lithium iron phosphate batteries. MG4 is rear wheel drive, Dolphin FWD MG top of range 956,000 baht. Dolphin 799,999 baht. I prefer the looks of the MG but Dolphin seems better value?
  2. Are the models in Thailand utilising lithium iron phosphate batteries?
  3. If things go according to plan. I will soon be in the market for a new EV as a second car. Range will not be a main criteria as I already have the Haval H6 PHEV for long trips. Main consideration will be a price, <1 million baht. Currently shortlisted MG4 and BYD Dolphin. Any other suggestions?
  4. When at home, I abuse my solar system as much as it can stand, AC set to 23 degrees C. On other days, I take my PHEV to a free charging station and sit in my car with the AC on and watch videos/movies on my iPad, something that I would be doing at home anyway.
  5. Yes, there are some posters who, presumably due to ingrained bias and prejudice, refuse to accept that some Chinese companies are capable of manufacturing top quality products. My phone, electric toothbrush, self cleaning robot vacuum etc (Chinese made) are easily as well made (if not better) than many European products I have purchased over the years. I do have a complaint about my Haval H6 though. I can’t close the door like it is a Toyota. I have to slam it shut like it’s an Audi.
  6. Considering that China build rather good trains and tracks, I’m sure they can build better Teslas if that’s the goal…
  7. Then why post here? I doubt anyone is interested in your thoughts.
  8. I used to think that range was the single most important criteria but since my 6,000 km trip back in March, I have not once needed to put in any petrol to my (NEDC) 201 km EV range PHEV. I have been happily charging from solar and a free CS near me.
  9. Once again, your personal opinion does not make it a fact. To be honest, I would be hard pressed to name a single Japanese product I own. My ac is LG as is my Tv and fridge. M fridge freezer is cheap charlie Chinese brand (still works perfectly after 5 yrs). Air purifier, dehumidifier, robot vacuum etc all Chinese. Oh, I remember, one Jap product, a 5 yr old Mazda, that only starts intermittently and dealer’s workshop can’t even identify the problem. I do also own 3 Shoei helmets - top product. China does make a lot of cheap and lower quality products (what you refer to as junk) - they are made to a price point. For eg, you can buy a Chinese made reciprocating saw for half the price of a Makita or De Walt. But unless you are a professional user or a prosumer, the Chinese one will more than satisfy your requirements. Why waste money unnecessarily or worse, deprive yourself of that tool because it’s too expensive? Chinese made products has been a boon to DIYers the world over. And lots of professional woodworkers will tell you that there are many Chinese made products that are on par with Japanese and European made ones at a more affordable price. Get over your prejudices.
  10. What line is that? Fuel is taxed, we all know that. Pollution in cities will be reduced, when more and more EVs replace ICEs. Anyone with an active brain cell knows that too. These are facts, pure and simple.
  11. Prey to their tactics? Which tactic is this? To encourage us to use less petrol/diesel or reduce pollution in the cities? Will be interesting to see how they will recover their taxation income. Higher road tax perhaps? Definitely won’t be higher electricity prices lol.
  12. It costs me about 100 baht to travel 100 kms in my 2 ton SUV PHEV. Costs me almost 200 baht to travel the same distance in my Mazda 2 hatchback. I don’t need to know how many kWh a litre of gasoline contains to know which is my cheaper option.
  13. My Thai wife doubles up as the maid. I double up as the dishwasher, rubbish disposal man, dog walker, driver, gardener, handyman…
  14. I have no issue as to whether someone prefers petrol powered or diesel powered or any other types of fuel/energy. I personally own both petrol and diesel powered vehicles as well as a PHEV. However, it doesn’t cost anything nowadays to educate yourself better on what is arguably the biggest issue concerning mass transportation today. You might even appear as “well informed “.
  15. Yes, very interesting indeed, that some people can believe an article written by a kid who looks like a teddy bear. One thing for sure; China is indeed benefitting from the war and the longer it drags on, the more China benefits. Thank you America and Europe ????
  16. It’s a great app to while away the time while the other half is off buying food at the market ????
  17. Why would I need to replace my battery? It’s guaranteed for 8 years by the manufacturer and even if I need to replace it (highly unlikely), the price 8 years down the road is likely to be significantly cheaper than it is now. An ICE may be cleaner in the long run but I would definitely prefer to be driving behind another EV than a diesel fume belching pickup.
  18. Correct, that’s what I stated in my post.. I only pay peak rates if I’m doing a road trip. Most of the time though, I either charge at home during the day using solar power or go down the road to charge at PTT after 10 pm (off peak rates) or on weekends.
  19. It’s a lot cheaper to drive an EV than an ICE. Public charging costs only 4.5 baht (of peak) per kWh. It is less than 3 baht per kWh charging at home if you have TOU meter. Sweet are my dreams.
  20. I don’t live in China. And, unlike you, I’m not important enough for China to spy on me. I hope you don’t have Tik Tok on your phone ???? ps: Google does spy on me though
  21. Well, China’s influence in the world and especially Asean will only continue to grow, particularly in the infrastructure sector. Will you boycott the HSR if and when it comes to fruition? Will you not install solar at home because the panels and inverters are Chinese made? Deny yourself all the wonderful electronic appliances and items made by Xiaomi, Huawei etc? Continue to pay double for petrol when it costs only 1 baht (or less if you have solar) per km for EVs? I could go on and on about how the emergence of China has made my life immeasurably better. Look around your own house (or room, for some) and see if you can replace all the Chinese made products you have. Foolish is he that cuts off his nose to spite his face ????. China and Chinese people are everywhere. Deal with it ????
  22. That’s what I thought so I was a bit confused about the extra 3 months extension. Still am lol
