  1. I don’t doubt that there maybe 1 or 2 small mines where the unscrupulous owners are exploiting children. But one must really be living in the middle of Nakhon Nowhere and ignorant to think that the large China owned mines are relying on inefficient manual labour as opposed to heavy machinery.   3. The reason no one is talking about this “HUGE” problem is because it’s not really a problem. The real problem is that anti-EVers still thinks about operating an EV the same way they operate their ICEV. They are used to going to the filling station regularly to fill up their fuel tank. EV owners don’t have to do this. I haven’t charged at a public station for a long time and don’t intend to unless I’m taking a long journey. Owning an EV requires a different approach to the issue of covering the required distance. Each journey is different and requires some thought. If this is too much trouble for you, then the simple answer is to not get an EV. For many others, this is a walk in the park @KhunLA
  4. I find your post extremely puzzling, to say the least. Anyone sitting and idling extensively in their ICEV, unless at a traffic light should be rightly criticised. The fumes generated are toxic and extremely unpleasant to smell and in some cases can even be fatal. What difference does it make when I’m using aircon, powered by electricity, whether I’m in my EV or at home? Are you advocating a ban on using electricity generated by coal powered plants?
  5. I work outdoors so very often, I sit in my car with the aircon on to cool down or to have my lunch on the go. I also have those mini car fans to help cool down faster. No one complains as no fumes are being emitted. I would never go that in my diesel work truck.
  6. I have read that in some countries EV charging at home has to be registered to regulate the number of home charging in a particular sub station of the Grid. With the state of the electric grid in Thailand I can see how such wide adoption of EV's charging at home could become a problem. Really? Could you kindly provide a link? Would be interesting to know which countries and if your statement is in fact based on facts or propaganda. IMO most people would want to plug in and start charging as soon as they get home from work which would place an additional load to peak electric consumption time . As you don’t own an EV, you can be forgiven for stating another common myth of anti-EVers. As Bandersnatch pointed out, those with TOU meters will only plug in after 10 pm. But in any case, by the time most people get home from work, a lot of industries and corporations would have stopped work so the actual demand on the national grid would be significantly less than during the day. Unlike in many western countries, I would wager that electricity consumption habits in Thailand is very different. No boiling the kettle for a cup of tea, cooking generally done with gas instead of electricity, eating out etc etc

  11. Sounds to me like you’re misinformed. Firstly, it doesn’t take 3 hours to charge the average EV. At fast DC charging stations, maybe just 10 mins if charging daily after work. However most EV owners charge at home and this is typically done when they are cuddling their teerak in bed so effectively, the time spent is about 15 seconds (not the cuddling but inserting the charger into the car). Your last sentence is an extremely accurate statement of your circumstance.
  12. Why would there be a need to upgrade the national infrastructure? Most EVs are charged at home at night when there is low demand for electricity from industries and businesses. You obviously haven’t thought through your post and obviously don’t own an EV.
  13. Even if so, it will still be cheaper than putting petrol in the tank. Even cheaper if you have a solar installation. And it’s better for the air quality, especially in the cities. Less noise pollution too.
  14. Most of the EVs sold in America are crap products whereas the ones sold in Thailand are of much better quality and value for money. EVs are not for everyone for a variety of reasons. This has been stated by EV owners repeatedly. But for those where it’s practical (able to charge at home, not frequent long distance trips etc), the benefits completely overwhelm ICEs. Low maintenance costs, cheap “fuel”, no emissions, smooth quiet and comfortable journeys. Sadly, you won’t ever get to enjoy the benefits.
  15. Problem is that most cars sold in the States are American and European brands. Very few MGs and BYDs are sold there, could be the anti-China sentiment. Other than Tesla, the most popular EV brand is Ford, meaning Mach E, F150 lightning etc. If I owned one of these, I would probably not buy another EV either.
  16. +1 Look no further than China, at the efforts they have made to clean up the air in their major cities. Close to 50% of all vehicles on Shanghai streets are EVs. Only a doofus would not admit that EVs are better for cleaner air in cities. Sadly, I still own 2 diesel pickups and I can smell the odious fumes that emit from. But I don’t have a choice as they are work vehicles.
  17. All these talk about how an EV might perform at Le Mans and so on is just plain pointless and irrelevant to this thread. The average car buyer doesn’t care how well his or her car will perform at Le Mans and probably won’t be able to afford such a car anyway. Similarly with MT or AT transmission. Most daily drivers would prefer AT especially when having to drive during peak hours and in traffic jams, coupled with the fact that a lot of them won’t know how to drive a MT car.
  18. Hahahaha. Did you ever buy any CD’s or DVD’s? Guess what, they’re obsolete technology. I hope you didn’t waste any money and still holding out for the latest technology. Billions and billions of dollars are being invested in battery technology by both countries and private corporations. If you know better than them, why are you posting on AN?
  19. I actually go one, albeit small step further. My solar is more than sufficient to power my house during the day and when there’s good sunlight, I use the excess to charge my EV. I have TOU so when the sun goes down, I use the V2L feature to power some of my electrical appliances so in essence, my EV battery doubles up as ESS between 6-10 pm when electricity is still at peak rate (5,7 baht plus FT surcharge). After 10 pm, I can charge my EV with off peak rate or charge the next day with “free solar”, depending on my schedule. Like you said. Win win all round.
  20. Getting free mileage from the sun. Can't complain. And the Dolphin is a joy to drive. 0 - 100 in 7 seconds. The red Suzuki driver that was next to me at the traffic lights didn't know what hit him. He was left smelling my non existent fumes lol.

  22. OMG. You might be a chemist or whatever but it seems like you don’t know much about comparing like for like. My BYD Dolphin costs 850,000, a BMW x5 costs 6,7 million? Ridiculous comparison, don’t you think?
  23. To the OP, TorquayFan, if you don’t want to buy an EV, then don’t. No one is holding a gun to your head. Your opening post shows very clearly your lack of knowledge about EVs and experiences of owning one. You based it on what you have read. Try reading articles or watching videos from EV owners if you want to have a balanced view.
  24. There’s a YouTuber called MacMaster who owns a Taycan. I used to enjoy his EV videos as I found it amusing and entertaining. But recently he has lost the plot and gone full anti-EV. He is telling everyone and anyone not to buy an EV but in actuality, the message should be NOT to buy a Taycan. One cannot equate a Taycan with a “normal” EV like a MG or BYD.
