Rate Charging Suppliers based on ease of use?
Gweiloman replied to Greenside's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
You have to make way for the person who has booked the next hour slot. So what you basically need to do if you turn up at the PTT charger is to book the next hour slot in case the remaining time for the current hour is insufficient. Booking the hourly slot doesn’t mean you have to charge for the whole 55 mins. You can charge for any amount of time, even 5 or 10 mins. -

Bear in mind that you have to arrive and start charging within 10 minutes of your booking time. On a road trip, I would find it challenging to be at a particular station at a particular point in time, a couple of hours away.If you arrive late, you lose your slot and the 20bht reservation fee. If you arrive too early, you can start charging if the bay is free but then have a 5 minute break at 55mins to the hour. Thailand seems to be the only country in the world to have come up with such a genius scheme. -
Hello all, Some friends of a relative in Australia are visiting CM later this month and would like to know where are some of the more decent sports bars where they can watch the Rugby World Cup. Any suggestions and recommendations are much appreciated. They are in their mid 60’s so I guess they would prefer a not too rowdy place.

Your comment, as expected is ludicrous. You may not be a fan of EVs, that’s fine, that’s your prerogative. But you cannot possibly think that ICE fumes are good for the environment and that the zero emissions from EVs are a definite improvement. Sound pollution is also significantly reduced with EVs. Unless you’re living in the middle of Nakhon Nowhere, you must have surely been irritated by loud engine noises roaring by.

Electric Vehicles in Thailand

Post not addressed to me but I’ll chip in anyway. Answer is no. You pay for the amount of power drawn, regardless of whether it takes 5 mins or an hour. -

This is not a painted tag but a sticker. All the insurance agents on the border towns between Thailand and Malaysia can do this on the spot. Yes, it’s very strange how he managed to get the white plate so quickly, unless it’s an old registration transferred from one of his other cars? That would logically speed up the process of getting the white plate. -

Call up the contact centre. They will then re-initiate the charging on their side and clear the outstanding on your account so that you can charge again when you want to. Having said that, I don’t know if they managed to successfully get the money from my bank account. I never bothered to check as the amounts are so little anyway, just a couple of hundred baht or so. By the way, it’s not that CIMB didn’t approve the transaction. The transaction is approved, I get the OTP code and input it but during the processing, it fails. I think it’s a software issue on PTT’s side. -
Very clearly caused by the ICE Honda trying to squeeze into a space that didn’t exist. The brain dead ICE Toyota driver thought his obsolete Jap made vehicle had the same safety features as CH made EVs.

I saw a car almost crashed into the rear of another car. I thought it was a MG with brake failure but realised it was only a Thai driver with the usual brain failure.

It has been a while since I last charged at a PTT station (contrary to what non EV owners think, most charging is done at home for most EV owners lol). There is no payment authorisation required before initiating a charging session. You just start charging and the authorisation process occurs at the end. However, in my case using the CIMB card, the payment doesn’t go through and the app will show that payment is pending. You cannot start another charging session until the previous one has been paid. For PEA, as I top up the wallet, the amount is deducted automatically. One thing to note is that charging will stop automatically once your wallet balance gets to a low level so it’s always a good idea to ensure that there are sufficient funds in the wallet before you start charging. Usually 500 baht or so is more than sufficient although I always top up 1,000 baht for convenience. -

Bit of touch and go with PTT. I used my CIMB debit card. The transaction doesn’t always go through in which case you have to call the contact Center and they then take the money manually through their system. Same with my gf’s debit card (can’t remember whether CIMB or Kasikorn). Eventually I obtained an online virtual debit card from Kasikorn and this now works without any issues. The easiest CS to work with is PEA. Payment is automatic is you select the autocharge method (more convenient than Elexa). Only problem is the slower chargers, mostly 50 kWh. -

I have one pedal driving on my PHEV and I absolutely love it, especially for town driving. You almost never need to touch your brakes, it comes to a complete stop by itself and you don’t need to have to worry about auto hold or activating the EPB (electronic parking brake). My criticism is that if you engage cruise control, the one pedal deactivates and you need to come to a complete stop in order to activate it again. Apart from city driving, it’s also fantastic when you’re going downhill, for eg driving from CM to Lampang. Using one pedal, I hardly use the brakes and one pedal regenerates a ton of recharge for my battery when going downhill. -
As you’ve never been in an EV, you obviously won’t know anything about the ride and performance of an EV. You obviously won’t know that plugging it in at home every evening for a few hours is as easy as taking your shoes off. You also won’t know that if you have solar power, it costs almost nothing to charge the car. Seems like there’s a lot about EVs that you don’t know.

Are you thinking of buying a BYD EV?

If a Brexit voting thicko knows that MG used to be a British company, that means that a pro-EU Brit who didn’t realise that MG used to be British is… more thick? -
I didn’t realise that you had such an old and obsolete system that only BT is supported but not Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Good luck trying to get your OEM GPS map updated.
-
You mean your car infotainment system doesn’t support CarPlay or Android Auto? Else, why would using your phone clog up your windscreen?

He seems to have a problem with a Chinese carmaker taking a down and out British name like MG and restoring it to being one of the leading EV brands in the world. -

Don’t forget, if you have solar at home, the cost per kWh reduces further. Couple that with TOU, it’s almost down to nothing. Over the past weekend, the sun was out in full force. I had to be out on both Saturday and Sunday and even with my miserly 3 kWh system, I was able to charge both my Dolphin and Haval up to a good SOC for literally nothing as I also have a TOU meter installed. There was an electrical brownout yesterday evening for around 2 hours just before dinner time. No worries, I plugged in my V2L cable and was able to continue watching YT on my TV with the fan on while the food was being prepared. The electricity hadn’t come back on when we sat down for dinner so it was a rather romantic dinner with battery powered led lights and with the fan still running. And all at a cost of less less than 4 baht per kWh of electricity. The advantages of owning an EV is such that very few EV owners will ever consider purchasing an ICE vehicle again. -
Elexa should introduce off peak rates like PTT and PEA. They will then have more customers during off peak hours. PTT needs to add a couple of additional chargers on a first come first charge basis at their stations without the need for reservation and without having to reboot at 55 mins to the hour. PEAS should roll out more 125 kWh chargers rather than the rather slow 50 kWh chargers they currently have.

CNN, Reuters… As I said, western propaganda. I don’t recall a single article in recent years by these biased publications that didn’t have a negative spin on anything China related. -

Just imagine what the EU commission is trying to do. They are hoping to impose tariffs on great value for money CH made EVs so that their consumers have to pay more. In a real democracy, these bureaucrats would have been booted out a long time ago. But in an authoritarian regime like the EU, they get to hang onto their cushy, “garden” (as per Borell) jobs with no accountability. -

Pray tell, what are these subsidies? Or are you just repeating the propaganda as I suspect you are? Even if true, not MG’s fault that the western governments are too skint to help their manufacturing industry. Yet, they are increasing spending on so called defence, as if Russia or China wants to invade UK or Germany. Laughable really. -

I would be willing to bet that the ol’Fortuner will hardly get any use once Pib collects his Atto3. The ride quality is light years ahead, smooth, quiet and refined. All the latest tech gizmos, large infotainment screen, ability to watch YT, TikTok etc. And of course, a fraction of the cost to drive it. -

I wonder why is it so hard for some to accept and acknowledge that China is a top manufacturer of many things, on par with if even superior to many western manufacturers. Is it because they are just old foggies, still living in the past century where western imperialism still ruled the world or are they just biased and prejudiced and believing the propaganda of the MSM? China makes things to a price point determined by the market. As a hobbyist woodworker, I would love to own only the best tools. However it makes no sense for me to spend thousands of dollars on a Bosch or Milwaukee or DeWalt or Makita mitre saw when a Pumpkin would suffice for the occasional use and where mm accuracy is not required. China knows who its consumers are and what price is affordable for them. To those that still thinks the west is superior, take a look at the following clip from LBC UK. https://x.com/lbc/status/1701292018037825571?s=61&t=flntOBcQjifaYJBEVPqKWA (X.com seems very close to xvideosdotcom or is that just my imagination?) -

Noise at a race track is fine. People go there willingly and also enjoy the noise, a privilege they are willing to pay for. Out on public streets however, it’s only idiots that enjoy the noise that their vehicle makes. For everyone one else, it’s an annoyance and I guarantee there are no positive thoughts about the driver of said vehicle. Most people would actually love to see a solo crash of that vehicle.
